This is what I mean. That person and the one above them have about the same level of writing but there are many upvotes on one and many downvotes on the other, even though both are more or less good effort comments. Going further down you can see my own replies have been downvoted, although not that much because few people even saw that discussion since the parent got heavily downvoted.

How so?
/r/MensRights23/06/16 02:01 AM

Uh, you're the one strawmanning... Putting up false caricatures of Islam and Muslims and striking them down to claim some sort of victory. And making a strawman out of what I said, too. "Passive-aggressive guilt tripping"? Your words, not mine. The quip about veils was a nice touch. I'm convinced after reading that. /s
/r/MensRights22/06/16 10:15 PM

When you essentially say that Islam is evil and refuse to be persuaded otherwise by Muslims, then you are excluding Muslims.

I'm not the one who brought it up.
/r/MensRights22/06/16 09:31 PM

Fine. I get it. Muslims can't be a part of the MRM, according to you. I'm not trying to change your view. I'm just here to see what the community's views are on Muslims and whether they're welcome.
/r/MensRights22/06/16 09:29 PM

Don't you even see the irony in your statement?? You're accusing me of refusing to engage in critical discussion. But you're refusing to even engage in discussion with anyone who doesn't agree with your view about Islam, preferring instead to call them a "cunt" or telling them to go back where they came from. And you're accusing me of refusing to engage in critical discussion, when in fact I clearly have.
/r/MensRights22/06/16 08:52 PM

If I didn't like my religion being criticized why would I bother engaging in a long discussion over it? And where have I said I don't like my religion being criticized? It's the downvotes on substantial comments that are pro-religion, and the upvotes on even insubstantial comments that are anti-religion which make it unwelcoming. If you were in a place where every comment you made anti-religion, no matter how substantial or well thought-out, was downvoted simply because it was anti-religion - wo…

Well, I said probably. That's based on my experience with people from Muslim countries. Other than that, it's a well known fact that most Muslims do not know how to read the Quran, and even among those who do, only a small fraction can understand it. so you dont? I can read it really well but I'm not so good at understanding it. Majority of Muslims' views about Islam is based on cultural practice rather than scholarship and partly by the local village imam, source? Do you need a source to tell y…

Ok, how do you know they don't know how to read the Quran? Well, I said probably. That's based on my experience with people from Muslim countries. Other than that, it's a well known fact that most Muslims do not know how to read the Quran, and even among those who do, only a small fraction can understand it. So you know the data in the video is based on muslim opinion polls... you can't get closer to reality then that. The data comes from the people you are studying themselves. Most of the video…

Lol they probably don't even know how to read the Quran. ... do i even need to respond to this. Well, you kinda do. We're talking about Muslim immigrant boys in Europe who rape/abuse women right? You expect me to believe a video from an anti-Islam organization that doesn't even touch upon fiqh on what Islam says over Islamic scholarship? That's like learning about the US from a North Korean school textbook. i guess you did not see the video. I did. Validity is based in the principles of Islamic …

They care more about what the quran says, they follow a more strict/literal version (interpretation) of the Quran. Lol they probably don't even know how to read the Quran. A video to broaden your mind. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pSPvnFDDQHk You expect me to believe a video from an anti-Islam organization that doesn't even touch upon fiqh on what Islam says over Islamic scholarship? Yeah, unfortunately, that's not unique to just the Saudis (or to men), but also happens in other rich Gulf countries. Many look down upon anyone not of their "race".
/r/MensRights22/06/16 10:20 AM

Not all interpretations are the same. Some are more valid than others. In any case, the interpretation quoted by /u/Sindibass is the standard, majority interpretation (I don't even know of any opposing interpretation to it). Do you really think those men that behave worse than animals care (or even know) what the Quran says?
/r/MensRights22/06/16 10:09 AM

Sad to see people fighting with you over this. It's basic math. Evolution/natural selection/survival of the fittest didn't magically end because we progressed technologically. Thinking that 150 years of technological progress and cultural shift can override biology of over a million years which has served us remarkably well so far, while technological progress might spell our doom soon, is stupidly arrogant.

As a Muslim, I've read a lot more about Islam than you have. What that article says about rape is just false. Furthermore, I did not claim that men and women have the same rights. I denied that women have less rights than men in Islam, which is completely true.
/r/MensRights10/11/15 07:33 PM

As a Muslim, that's news to me.
/r/MensRights10/11/15 07:04 PM

If you want to know what feminists think then ask feminists. Within the context of this post, I do not want to know what feminists think about the topic. If I did, I would have asked them. "Whoa! you didn't cover of all this stuff that I didn't mention either in my post. Yer an r-tard!" I have no idea what this means. Chill out. You have to define some accurate measure of "suck" in order for your first statement to make any sense. Judging by the standards of someone living a modern urban middle-upper class life, people "back then" had it bad. But introduce the idea of today's urban life to an agragrian society from 5000 years ago, and they'd think that that is bad. I agree completely with your last sentence, but I wasn't arguing against that. You can have those things fulfilled under different types of societies, not ju…

So your last paragraph is in essence agreeing with me - that people's overall happiness throughout human history has remained at some average level, and despite modern technology, our happiness has not increased on average.

No, it is an emotion, a part of the psychological state of mind of a person. It is not an actual state of being (what does that even mean?). As to your point, there are plenty of people who do back-breaking work but are happier than people who work in an office building doing nothing but writing things down. So the notion that less amount of work = more happiness is not true. Happiness comes from other factors, such as contentment, strength of social relationships, etc.

How do you empirically measure quality of life? EDIT: My bad. I was thinking of happiness not quality of life.

This is an interesting point which I had not thought of with regards to the idea of universal female oppression (although I have thought of it regarding other things). Thanks for bringing it up!

To the people that worked that way, that was normal. Just like what we do today seems normal. Maybe somebody a thousand years from now when they have machines serving all their needs would look back on us today and exclaim, "Oh, how miserable they were!" But that's certainly not true. Human happiness is not the inverse of how many hours a day you work to make a living. All sorts of psychological factors determine how happy someone is.

What is the point you are trying to make in your last paragraph and with the use of derogatory terms like "uppity broad"? Furthermore, you are factually incorrect in stating that almost all people have lived miserable lives as subsistence farmers. For the vast majority of human history, we have not been subsistence farmers. We've been nomadic hunter-gatherers. Second, during the time that we were, do you have evidence to positively support the claim that we were miserable? Your comment seems com…

RANT Clearly, you do. I may not live in those countries but I know much more about them and their culture than you do. Maybe you should visit them for a while, get to know their people... Oh, wait. I HAVE. END RANT There are many cultures in the world who do practice such atrocities. Some of them are among Muslims, some of them aren't. But these practices not only have no basis in Islam, they are forbidden in Islam. If these practices were rooted in Islam, don't you think it would be found all o…

I'm not a Jehovah's Witness so I won't answer on their behalf. Cop out. Why don't you ask me about my religion, and ask a Jehovah's Witness about theirs? That includes teaching them about God and his religion. I would be a bad father if I did not circumcise my sons. Yet in another post you said... Circumcision is not mentioned in the Quran actually. You are assuming that the Quran is all there is to Islam. You assume incorrectly. Islam is based on the Quran but it is not all in the Quran. We kno…

I'm not a Jehovah's Witness so I won't answer on their behalf. I will do what I must for my kids because I love them. Some people may do these things and others because they feel they must live up to social expectations, but my reasons for doing it are not social expectations/peer pressure at all. I do it on principle alone, whether people approve or disapprove. I will love my kids, and will do anything to ensure they are successful as human beings. That includes nourishing them, clothing them, …

So it's my religion you have a problem with then? So you can't be Muslim and be an MRA? Way to be inclusive. Like I already said, I can and will be an MRA, and be a Muslim too. There's no reason why Islam and men's rights (or women's rights) are not compatible. But I bet you're one of the Islamophobes who thinks that Islam is against freedom itself and we're all here to impose Shariah law on the infidels. And I get that "men" means men and boys, which I'm totally for (such as correcting pro-fema…

You're being incredibly ethnocentrist. Your argument against circumcision is at its core the same as the argument of feminists that say that Muslim women should not be allowed to wear the hijab or niqab because it "oppresses" them or is "forced" upon them by a misogynistic patriarchal society. I consider the consumption of alcohol, something that is widespread in Western cultures, to be incredibly offensive, yet I'm not going to force an alcohol ban. Next, are you going to suggest that I cannot …

Wow so if my views on men's rights are not the exact same as your views on men's rights, then I am a "piece of shit" and can "fuck off"? What a nice welcome to the men's rights community. You remind me of feminists who alienate Muslim women feminists just because they choose to wear the hijab. And what gives you the right to say I'm not an MRA? Fuck you, I am an MRA and I will stand up for men's right wherever and whenever I can and nobody will tell me otherwise.

I'm a guy. I consider myself an MRA. I'm Muslim. I'm circumcised. I don't feel that my "fundamental right to body integrity" was compromised in any way, form, or fashion, and I'll have my sons circumcised too. This is just as silly as those people who think that Muslim women wearing the hijab are oppressed.
