Tell them that if that's all feminism is, they don't have to call themselves feminists and feel the need to defend feminism when the "extremists" do bad things. They can just call themselves egalitarians or human rights activists, and avoid that whole issue. If they persist, ask them why they would want to keep a label that has been tarnished by the bad behavior of those non-feminists. Conflates clothing with sexism, in the most beautifully stupid way possible, wears the same suit for a year, no one notices, and thinks that's why few women in politics.
