I receive this "talk" from my supervisor a few times a year. Over time, I've been working to adjust my tone from "whiny" and/or "pissed" and instead framing it as being "concerned for the department/company". They still gave me a raise this year so I must not be too aggressive...

Went through this two years ago after my wife had our second kid and it was led me to TRP in the first place. Felt the same way, after the bedroom dies for awhile, it's awkward to try and reboot things. You've gotta try and initiate. If you get shot down or she tells you "maybe later", just walk away and go do something else. Don't say a fucking word, just leave the room. If she is receptive, you've gotta go caveman and bang the shit out of her. Don't ask her if she's okay, or if something feels…

Because my wife is a stay at home mom, what I'll usually do is come home and help with dinner and then take my two sons out for an hour or two. I get time to bond with my kids and she gets time to recover after keeping up with two wild boys all day. I'm happy, she's happy. It beats coming home and sitting in front of the TV until bedtime.

As a software engineer, less than half my day is spent "typing out lines of code, compiling, and fixing bugs". If you want to sit back and be comfortable at your job and never push yourself, sure you can do those things and those things only.

I'm a web and mobile developer. I just tell girls that I make iPhone apps. They usually are pretty cool about it.
