Lots of women want these things as well. "The future is female" doesn't mean much to all the women just struggling to pay the bills.

Also a lot of female literature promotes this whilst also dumbing down male characters to one dimensional hero’s/villains. This drives me bonkers. I don't feel empowered. I feel like I'm being pandered to.

It's honestly pretty insulting to women too. Reminds me of kids' shows where all the adults are inexplicably dumb so the kids look good in comparison. Oh, and a lot of these new heroines seem borderline sociopathic, so there's that.

Well said.

It makes sense in theory that having a different set of identities can greatly affect your life. However, in practice it mostly seems like a way to limit the types of people you should feel empathy for. Contrary to popular belief, you can be a part of the majority group yet still be disadvantaged somehow.

In its current incarnation, the concept of privilege mostly serves to limit empathy to a set number of minority groups. If you aren't a member of those groups, you're considered undeserving of pity or kindness. You deserve whatever bad things that happen to you because you're part of the problem. Even trying to be "one of the good ones" is a fool's errand. And of course, class is rarely factored in. Honestly, it seems like cruelty and laziness disguised as kindness.

Instead of being taught important, valuable lessons about right and wrong, modern women are being taught terrible lessons about how they should be able to put in next-to zero effort and still consider themselves heroic. I hope it's okay for me to chime in as a woman here, but I honestly find this trend of superpowered sociopath women being treated as heroic pretty offensive. Especially when they're just innately awesome without having to work at it. Am I supposed to find characters like this ins…

My middle and high school experience beg to differ. Women can be incredibly cruel to each other.

Maybe, but isn't there a big difference between training in a controlled setting and being able to fight someone who actually means you harm?

But surely you can at least recognize the strength difference between most men and women. It's not that women are more moral, so much as the fact that we'd be on more equal footing if one tried to assault me. (Unless guns are involved, etc.)

Yeah, I think a lot of it is that trans activists have a history of forcing their way into spaces where natal women are at their most vulnerable and then threatening violence if anybody objects to it. Men don't typically do this. Heck, most trans women probably don't either. But it's hard not to resent someone who demands access to these places and doesn't care how uncomfortable it makes everyone else there. I know I'm in the minority here, but I don't think it makes you a TERF or androphobic to…

As I said above, I doubt most of us are scared of all men, all the time. There are just some situations in which it's better to be safe than sorry. I agree that those are useful skills to have, though.

You're right that it depends on the strength or intimidation factor of the man in question. It also depends highly on context. Most women I know aren't worried about the random guy who passes them on the street in the daytime, or their male friends and family members. And to be clear, I don't think more than a very small percentage of men are dangerous. But if I'm somewhere I already feel more vulnerable (ie, a dark alley, a deserted rest stop, etc) and then a guy ignores my discomfort and tries…

Tbh, it's less because you're men and more because you're generally much stronger than us. It's not unreasonable to be cautious around a stranger who could easily overpower you. I'd be equally cautious around a much bigger, stronger woman. I understand how it might be frustrating or painful, though.

It used to be much more common 10-15 years ago. I used to get sexually harassed on WoW pretty frequently, and was openly stared at when I went into my local gaming store. Maybe it's because I'm older now, but I haven't had anything like that happen for years.

I'm usually a lurker because I'm a woman, but thought I'd chime in. I write fiction, and lately seem more drawn to writing male characters. Obviously not your target demographic, but I still appreciate what this sub does.

It's worth pointing out that it's mostly bougie businesses that do this. You rarely see corner stores or gas stations that advertise their owner's identity.

As a writer, I'd like to point out that nuanced writing isn't dead. It just doesn't get published as much nowadays. Which I guess is almost worse.

What's strange is how much feminism has changed in even the last 10 years. The feminism I grew up with was all about equality. Not necessarily antagonism.

Unfortunately, I think you're right. For what it's worth, I'm a woman and like emotionally sensitive men.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
