It harms you. It does exactly what they want, it gives them real estate in your mind. Every moment you spend worrying about what they do and trying to counteract it is a moment that is no longer yours. Instead of thinking of them as an invading army, think of them as a monsoon storm. The best response is not to get angry, it is simply to pull your pants up and wade through the water until the storm ends.

"I learned long ago, never to wrestle with a pig. You get dirty, and besides, the pig likes it."

The right to use force to protect property is limited (while right to use force to protect yourself is much broader). Also, he hit her as she was leaving (she and her friend both appeared to have turned away and started walking out of the garage). His intent seems clear. He wasn't protecting himself, his guests, or his property. He was angry he got punched in the nose and took revenge. Now, none of this speaks to the "rightness" or "fairness" of his act. You sucker punch someone in the nose, don…

Lawyer here: He got into trouble when he went back and reengaged her. If it had all happened quickly you could make an argument that he was caught up in the heat of the moment and defended himself. but it looked like he went after her once the crowd thinned to get his shot in. The "reasonable" response would have been to let her go and call the police and document what had happened, with "clean hands" as the kids say. By starting round 2 his hands aren't clean anymore. I see two separate inciden…

To make this stick give of yourself freely. Give the gift of yourself, of your time, of your thoughts. Share them as if you were giving away slices from an endless pizza. If someone give you nothing back you have lost nothing, b/c you have an infinite abundance to still give away, so you aren't diminished. If someone gives you something back, then you both are enriched. Even when someone responds with harshness or anger, b/c you don't feel diminished in the giving, you are left able to try to un…

This stuff is not about determining what kind of steak you are. It is about finding the best way to present the steak. If you are lacking in success perhaps you need a new plate, better sides and a buttered roll. But nobody will tell you that you should be anything but a medium rare ribeye if that is what you are.

This is it. It's so simple that we overlook it. Confidence comes from the idea that no matter what happens I can handle it. As OP said, this usually comes from the experience of surviving things, b/c our default is to believe we can't handle the unknown. New situation? Unsure of myself. New people? Unsure of myself. What you need to do is change your default for most situations. Tell yourself when you start getting nervous: "whatever happens, I can handle it." Really believe that too. "Whatever …

As an attorney, I agree with this. This is such a strange idea that I have to imagine something happened to them or around them and they have overreacted with this bit of paperwork.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
