Create/observe a situation (e.g. "What do you think of that guy's dreads? Would they look good on me?"...etc. etc. you get the picture) to bring up as part of your initial approach. Anything should work, as long as it's something that your target can respond to.

Don't act like it's no big deal, or else it will be obvious. Don't act natural, just be natural. She's hanging out with you for a reason. Think about what you're going to order for breakfast (chicken and waffles, if the place has it, it's awesome). Don't overdress, but don't be a slob.

I have confidence in you for next time! I wouldn't do it the immediate next time you go, as that may come off as desperate (although I don't know about her body language she was giving you, so I can't really say). She's not going anywhere, so just make smalltalk the next couple of times you buy groceries, then bring it up again. Some may say that's too complacent, so with that said, do what feels right: if it doesn't feel natural, or you're feling uncomfortable, don't force the issue.
