Omg thank you for posting this. The comments for this article were a mess. So many men saying things like "men who fulfill this criteria are in high demand and all taken up already and if she wanted it then she should have lowered her standards when she was younger" "why should men like these choose a 40 year old over a young and pretty 25 year old" "what do these women even bring to the table" So sick and tired of these scrotes trying to pit women against each other to compete for the rare HVM.…

Singapore - we have limited space so our government encourages procreation policies and the formation of a family unit (basically you'll get housing priority if you get married)

In my country, you can't get your own place till you're 35 if you're single. (':

I couldn't read past the first few sentences without crying, because I haven't been loved like that in my life, and it makes so much sense why I was such a "pickme" for the longest time.

Not entirely true. There are numerous religious men who, because of their upbringing, are "sexually repressed" and therefore skews to the other end of the extreme. Basically can't trust anyone.

My therapist asked me to come up with traits that described me and the first one I came up with was "humble". Omg I have so much work to do. Hahaha. Women have been socialized to never ever feel proud of ourselves or be "superficial".

But at the same time it makes me uncomfortable that it's framed around religion. There's talk of "our religion does not condone this" and a bit of talk from the victims on how "there are other women who don't cover themselves but these men chose to target …

Same. Figured out I'm demisexual. Or maybe just sex repulsed because men are... Men.

I don't have any male Muslim friends beyond casual acquaintances (other than my ex). I think that speaks volumes on its own. They generally tend to try and find a more religious/practicing partner who is more tolerant of their patriarchal ways.

Sadly the reverse is also the same. As a Muslim woman, it's incredibly hard to find a HVM of the same faith. I find it difficult to believe there are any. Especially when I don't share many of the mainstream beliefs.

My ex likened me pointing things out to him as oppression of free speech and identity. Like really? You're making everyone uncomfortable, how is that beneficial in any way?

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
