After a year of me living alone (and 2 breakups spanning a couple of months each), we ended up living together. Breakups with your FWB or other men?

What the above commenter is saying really only becomes an issue when she concurrently has one foot in the casual sex market and another in the relationship market. For example, if I found out a girl I was dating seriously had a FWB (or multiple FWBs) on the side, instant ick. It just screams indecisiveness, lack of control/maturity, and the acceptance that the commodification of people is somehow ok.

Should I expect the same treatment immediately, simply because he did do those things in the past? No, but any feelings of insecurity that arise from that are perfectly valid and rational. It's pretty common for women to gauge their partner's attraction to them through the effort and resources they expend towards keeping the relationship going. So if his past partners got the princess treatment, it's normal to wonder why other women got that treatment but you're not.

The "platonic"-ness of the friendship still has to be proved at the beginning and, to a lesser extent, continually throughout the friendship. And even then, there might be doubts. Whereas with women, you don't have to worry about any of that. I'm not saying straight male-straight female platonic friendships are impossible or can never be mutually beneficial, but they are inherently unequal because women are naturally suspicious of men.

I would never date a woman that makes minimum wage and/or with no career aspirations. Mostly for the same reasons most women would not date a man who makes minimum wage and has no career ambitions. So past a certain point, career and income just become a bonus. What are your thoughts on career women who have placed their careers as one of the most important aspects of their lives? It depends on how much free time and stress the career induces. Also, the prevalence of cheating and overall work cu…

A better question is why would a woman even want to be platonic friends with a [straight] guy? You have to sus out whether he's secretly attracted to you/trying to get into your pants. Or if he's going to be attracted to you at some point in the future. There's a lot of conversation topics you'd probably be uncomfortable talking about around him. You're going to probably be spending the majority of your limited free time around other women where you don't have to worry about the above two points…

Once you get to a certain age, a lot of those friends start settling down, prioritizing more of their time towards their partner and building a family than going out. Such is life. I'm lucky enough to have a mixed gender friend group, but the frequency at which single women choose to go out is incredibly low. There is no time to build rapport or "warm approach", because you won't see them again for another 3-4 months, and it's likely she'll have another guy locked down in that timeframe. Instant…

Expecting to drive someone crazy with lust but thinking no one else can do that is stupid and egostic. Umm... where did he say this, though? That's wanting the perks but none of the flaws. It's obnoxious. No, it's called analyzing trade-offs. At a certain point in the spectrum (which is going to be variable depending on the individual), the flaws outweigh the perks. How is that any different from women that want a partner that knows what he is doing in the bedroom but also isn't a man-whore?
/r/PurplePillDebate02/05/23 04:31 PM

He's saying it's not a dichotomy, it's a spectrum. The overwhelming majority of women don't want men with high N-counts either.

There's some truth to what he's saying. Many younger single women have the same mannerisms, watch the same shows, have the same opinions, and have the same IG pics regardless of physical attractiveness or follower count. Unlike men, the difference (I think) is solely to bond better with other women in their peer group, not to attract more or "higher quality" suitors. There have been several observations/deconstructions of this phenomenon in popular media that take a less adversarial tone. One is…

For younger white women: very high standards relative to the rest of women. Majority are college educated and won't settle for anyone without a degree and making more than them. Combined with dominant European beauty standards, younger white women are the second most sought-after demographic in dating app studies analyzing the desirability of racial groups. Perceived higher value by men = higher standards by women. For younger black women (caveat: I am a white American so take this with a grain …

How do you know for sure that respectful, decent men struggle the most in dating? It primarily comes down to looks. Second is personality. I'm a guy, and I've known plenty of conventionally attractive men. The ones that were respectful and decent were very successful in serial monogamy. The ones that weren't were very successful in casual sex with lots of women. So yes, selection bias indeed has a role to play. Personality comes into play when a fuckboy wants to reform as he inevitably gets tire…

"Negging" in its original conception in the PUA community had nothing to do insulting women. It was more about negating, or disqualifying, yourself, as the man, to set yourself apart from the others. It would usually be something innocuous like "eh, you're not my type". I would probably even include it under the umbrella term, "banter". Negging turned into just straight insults because the PUA community is self-selecting. Those with high social intelligence and calibration used many of the strat…

Many women also get coomer-brained and construct an idealized version of the un-enthusiastic hot guy in their heads. And yes, I'm aware this phenomenon isn't exclusive to just women.

What we perceive as "attractiveness queues" are really just health indicators. Strength, height, robust facial bone structure, etc. just aided pre-historic Chad in surviving to the point where he could take a wife (or wives) and have children.

That doesn't change the fact that women are willing to share higher status men, if they didn't out humans wouldn't be that developped now. Again, women didn't have any say in the matter. Dynastic kinship structures were the norm for most of recorded history. Well if you look at this study plus other ones you can certainly get an idea. No, I have no idea what you're talking about or how you got to this conclusion.

I'm referring to the development of agriculture which lead to larger scale societies that saw rise to some of the most extreme forms of polygyny possible where elite men had harems in the hundreds and thousands. Now contrast pre-industrial agricultural societies to the the post-industrial societies of today. Polygyny has gone down. The reason hunter-gatherer societies had monogamy or smaller scale polygyny should be incredibly obvious: There were far less people on the planet, leading to smaller…

There are studies that show that since the beginning of our specie only 40% of men have reproduced vs 80% of women. Explainable by wars and performing more dangerous jobs before reaching marriagable age. An other study shows that 8000 years ago 1 men for 17 women was reproducing. I've read the study. A single Y-chromosomal genetic bottleneck 8,000 years ago does not dictate human behavior when modern humans have existed for far longer. Women would choose to be with those men because they were at…

Resource abundance and hoarding is what lead to the most extreme levels of polygyny ever seen in history. Are you referring to present times? We don't live in a polygynous society. The fact that there are a lot of women getting duped in situationships or having casual sex with higher status men is an entirely different phenomenon with different causes.
/r/PurplePillDebate28/04/23 10:33 PM
24

Women didn't have much say in the matter. What are you basing this off of? Concubines were for pleasure, and usually lower status women whose only other option was living in squalor. Marriages were (for the powerful men at least) for diplomacy. No parents of high status women would allow their daughters to be concubines. There was nothing in it for them.
/r/PurplePillDebate28/04/23 10:25 PM

Polygyny was only historically an option due to extreme resource scarcity. Like when you absolutely needed a man to provide basic necessities like food, water, shelter, and clothing. Staying single is now a viable option for women who live in developed countries.

Depends on the geography, setting, and culture. I live in a large West Coast city. In some neighborhoods, what you're saying is true. In the college areas, I see a lot of nerdy mid (but stylish) Asian men with cute girlfriends. I also see a lot of young Latino men punching WAY above their weight class. What you're seeing seems to apply the most with younger white and black women. I have my theories for why this is this case but I'd rather not break the race baiting rule on this sub.

These women ALWAYS ignore my question and detail how they are in fact a couple because of the following: They're looking for evidence that confirm their desire for a relationship with the guy. Do you ever tell the women this (or some variation of this), and what is their response?

I think the point is that most women who find themselves in situationships aren't dichotomizing men like men do to women. Obviously, the factors that make a man "high value" to an individual woman are going to vary immensely based on her values, maturity, and how sociosexual/demisexual she is.

I feel like a broken record on this sub because I've been saying this for a long time: men and women have vastly different beauty standards, even when only looking at facial aesthetics. The only thing men have a leg up on women is nose size and shape; almost everything else from eye shape to overall face shape have wider ranges of acceptability under conventional feminine beauty standards.

scientists actually have a hard time separating male skulls from female ones. Sorry, what? Skulls are one of the most sexually dimorphic bones in the human body, right next to the pelvis. Read Why Men Behave Badly by David Buss. It will explain all of the following in greater detail: Men have a greater tendency towards what is known as the "sexual over-perception bias", or perceiving that a woman is more interested in him than she really is. It persists in the evolutionary sense because the men who have it are effectively casting a wide net and had a greater opportunity to eventually mate and have sex than men underperceiving sexual interest. Sexual over-perception bias is also H…

I mean, when you look at it under a microscope it seems pretty banal. But when you look at the trends for how these people behave and affect other people, there's a lot of parallels you can draw to drug addicts (Like, "I can quit anytime!" Uh huh, sure). It's not a gendered bias so much as a survivorship bias. Relationships have inherent risks. And I'll readily concede those risks are higher for women when children are involved. Most women know this because it's incessantly preached about, mostly by other women. So your only options are: Give up on relationships with men in general. If you're this jaded to get to this point, you'd be doing everyone in the singles market a favor. Accept that a LTR carries risks and if you want kids, you need to vet hard for the future father of your children.

It's not necessarily "trapping", but it is the inducement of social pressures to honor a commitment made to another person. I'll also file this post under "opinions so obvious I don't know why they have to be stated".

There are still plenty of those. Sure, they still exist, but there's less of them and with declining participation from the single women demographic. So point still stands; it was easier, but how much easier is probably where the debate is. Have you talked to many young single men that aren't chronically online? I've been to most of those venues and events you've listed and they're mostly sausage fests. I have a mixed-gender friend group of mostly older Gen Z women (born between 1996-2000), and …
/r/PurplePillDebate17/04/23 08:40 PM

If you aren't attractive (or even just average), you have to make up for that in other ways. Men in particular aren't just competing in their league for their looksmatch, they're also competing against men outside of their league looking to date down. Which of the two male suitors has to compensate with more effort and investment: the 6/10 guy going for the 6/10 girl, or the 8/10 guy going for the 6/10 girl?

I've realized men are more attracted to cute feminine women than they are to the hottest chick on Instagram that shows a lot and sexualizes herself a lot. I'm a man, and I agree with this. Back in high school, I used to think I was shooting in my league by going for the "girl-next-door" 6-7/10 look. Most guys would prefer a girl with a little experience that doesn't give off whore-ish vibes for appearances sake.

Alternative solution: Limit swipes for both genders at 25/day. Limit total matches to 10. Once you reach those 10 matches, no more swiping. Like Bumble, women still have to message first, and those matches disappear in 24 hours if a conversation hasn't been started. Allow a third option to reshuffle people you are unsure of back into the stack so you have a higher chance of seeing them again later if your current matches don't work out.

I think most women intuitively know that a man simply wanting to have sex with them is practically worthless. They're certainly not bragging to their friends at brunch that random guy #1097 wants to fuck them; it's not validating. This is you, right? Yep. And we both agree women aren't going to date someone they think is a shitty partner. Longterm, no. Happy couples and rom-coms will probably still exist to drip-feed hope to an ever shrinking pool of increasingly jaded women. And to come full circle, men have to be even more good looking, more rich, and more charismatic to convince these jaded women they are worth it. It's a positive feedback loop with a lot of collateral damage.

That depends on the woman and her lifestyle though. Of course it does. We're talking about social trends though not individuals and exceptions that disprove the rule. Like a woman with a middle class lifestyle might want a middle class or upper class man to maintain that lifestyle. But also as someone who out earns (and always have out earned) my partner, it can also just mean you can make her happier in other areas. So you're saying emotional stability, emotional intelligence, shared values, an…

I've argued elsewhere that the lack of shared community spaces and atomisation of society are the primary drivers for the current dating issues. However the op specifically talked about "rising standards" or specifically financial standards. They're correlated. Atomization and lack of shared spaces drives up the "down payment" (since men are seen as liabilities to women's lives) men have to pay to convince a woman he's worth her time and investment.

I did that with success. Okay, but doesn't this go against your first comment? If you agree it can be done, then you would also agree women shouldn't handicap themselves by disqualifying all men that make less than them, yes? But it's still sad watching young men get swayed by JBP and Tate thinking this is the way. Very limited reach these two have outside of online spaces. I assume you're not dating younger men anyway being an accomplished career woman so it's no skin off your back.

The men who make as much or more than you and have fragile masculinities would pull the same shit. So the issue isn't that you make more than him; the issue is, as you say, fragile masculinity. The point of contention we have probably revolves around what "desire" really means. Can an overweight person desire to be a healthy weight despite not taking any action to improve their situation? I can acknowledge that various antiquated narratives still exist and negatively influence and affect women. If your argument is these narratives consciously or subconsciously shape what women are willing to put up and expected to behave, as well as how men treat women, then I would agree, but as it relates to pumping and dumping, I don't think these narratives hold much sway. Hypergamy under certain social and cultural contexts may have unintended consequences which cause bad outcomes, but it isn't necessarily a problem. Selection bias in action. I don't doubt women are being hit on the majority of the time by players, delusional losers, and creeps. Because that's what players, delusional losers, and creeps do. I don't doubt it. That doesn't mean there aren't other tall guys out there that don't care about height. My point is there is a reason for many tall guys rejecting tall women. A lot of people still have traditional preferences in their head about what roles men and women are supposed to take. A larger height disparity makes many men feel more dominant and masculine, same as it makes women feel more feminine and submissive. They're probably more attracted to the energy shorter women give off.

I can honestly say after being around a lot of tall men that height doesn't even register as a disqualifying factor because they're already taller than 99% of women. Some dated women way shorter than them, others dated women a few inches shorter. It's more about your options as well as the enthusiasm and signaling you're getting from women. Based on conventional beauty standards. An attractive male face has to strike the right balance between masculine and feminine features as well as youthfulness and maturity. Whereas an attractive female face just has to be feminine and neotenous.

The body-type beauty "standards" have always existed in trends. Well, there's your answer. The fact that beauty and attractiveness are almost synonymous for women but aren't for men. Men's attractiveness, on the other hand, is much more multidimensional. Men may carry more angst because it is definitely harder for a man to be attractive to women than vice versa because you are weighing more factors beyond just plain beauty. Another point is that certain mental issues can lead to a messier dating life both for men and women, so maybe they happen to have more situationships or casual encounters while more stable people...don't. But it's pure speculation, of course. That's not pure speculation. What you're describing is an obvious fact of selection bias. The reason why single men have to deal with a surplus of women with personality disorders, mental health problems, and attachment issues is because they keep getting …

My question applies specifically to "blanket ghosting", or ghosting where the man has provided no prior warning signs that he will react negatively to a rejection. He just presents a risk by simply being a man. Because frequently you'll get responses on these threads about otherwise polite men with no red flags turning nasty after a rejection to justify blanket ghosting in all circumstances.

I think we might be talking past each other. My comment and this post specifically revolves around escalation in the early stages of the relationship. The courtship phase, if you will. Even most women over the age of 30 are not going to give a man a roadmap to how they want to be courted. If you reduce the compatability/chemistry problem to just finances, children, gender roles, household chore division (the essentials, basically), congrats, you've now turned a date into a job interview. There a…

Clear communication defeats the "cerebral-ness" of the tests women typically put forward to gauge chemistry and compatability. Here's why: If you tell a guy straight up what you're looking for, you've essentially told an almost complete stranger the questions to the "test" that is sussing out the potential boyfriend. So I believe it's a hard ask for women to be up-front because, as we all know, men can be deceptive too, and some men are going to take advantage of this cheat sheet you've just pro…

That's puzzling to me. If a guy is continuing to schedule dates and showing consistent communication but hasn't yet escalated for a kiss, then logically it means he's still interested but probably nervous. Possibly an unconscious evolved response to filtering out unconfident men since you're far from the first woman who's said this.

Plus, if someone is "high value" enough, why would they worry about that imbalance? If they're that high value, they would be better than most people, and it's very normal to have that imbalance with people naturally. They won't have to go out and seek it, it would happen naturally with most relationships. Very few people would be able to poach "mates" from them because they're already top of the pack. That's kinda the point. Men are far less likely to mate poach if they perceive the boyfriend/h…

Have you seen any guy say that? 🙋‍♂️ That's me. Would rather have good sex than awkward sex with a likely inexperienced partner. I still have a body count limit that would raise an orange flag, but that's because of correlating personality disorders and trauma that would make them bad partners in the first place, not because the amount of different dicks inside her somehow made her unclean or polluted. So probably the same way women view high n-count men.

In the 70s women literally made half as much as men. Mainly due to life choices. Men still had to be likeable and attractive to women, and women weren't so dumb as to partner up with a poor quality man just to be in a better financial position.
/r/PurplePillDebate18/03/23 02:05 AM

Women have been able to provide for themselves since the 1970s, at least here in the U.S. This is not a new phenomenon. If financial freedom was indeed the cause, then we would've seen a massive rise in the uptick of single or sexless men in the decades following. Except that didn't happen. The sexlessness and marriage rates were remarkably stable until around 2008 to 2012.

The epitome of an AlphaBucks-man is an ideal. But to me, AlphaBucks as a strategy just means that women analyze potential partners holistically (i.e. taking into account both physical attractiveness and provider traits) and will choose a singular partner that gets as close to that ideal as they can.
/r/PurplePillDebate14/03/23 05:21 AM

Isn't that kind of disingenious? It can be if the in-group person is misrepresenting the narrative. Which they usually do. So usually, yes. It also allows people to act the worst they can but spin the narrative to something that puts them in a positive light. True. Would basically result in an emphasis of attractiveness instead of morals. Not necessarily, it depends on the person. A lot of women do learn from their mistakes and choose better long-term partners.
/r/PurplePillDebate14/03/23 05:16 AM

We need to define our terms. The dual mating strategy hypothesis (or what the manosphere calls AF/BB) in its original coinage meant the cuckolding of a long-term provider partner to secure the genes of the more genetically attractive mate. This doesn't track with reality for several reasons. First, it imposes extreme risks upon the woman's reputation. Second (according to the paper I linked), 79% of women who had affairs reported being in love with their affair partners: If the primary function …

Preaching to the converted. Still, I do still think it is substantially harder for guys to integrate themselves into new social circles, mainly because we are known for being more socially awkward and aggressive. Because women are more skittish, people are usually more hesitant about inviting unknown guys into the group. I don’t know what exactly you mean when you say dating. The first operative definition you gave. In other words, you are going on dates to determine if the person is compatible and want to keep seeing them. There was also a genetic study released that showed less than 40% of men historically were ever given the opportunity to procreate while 80% of women historically have procreated. This would tend to prove only the top percentile of men are having sex in a regular basis and with multiple women. Which study? The one I see that keeps being referenced says there was a genetic bottleneck in the Y-chromosome at a specific point in pre-history, not all throughout human history.

What I hear more of around these parts is that since looks do not inherently determine whether or not a guy is hateful, might as well fuck around with a hottie because being mistreated by a hottie is better than being mistreated by an uggo.

I wish I had more guy friends that just wanted me strictly as a friend lol. Why though? Seriously, what can a guy friend offer you that a female friend can't? I have strictly platonic female friends and I only see them maybe 4 or 5 times a year. Why bother if >90% of your "friend time" is just going to be exclusively with other women?

Because if you are having to go out of your way to go somewhere you don’t usually go to meet women it’s probably not the sort of women you are compatible with long term, so you are probably looking for sex. Late-blooming/introverted/"healing from trauma" women will do this when they finally decide they want to date men. You wouldn't accuse them of the default "only looking for sex" would you?

The strong correlation is itself an orange flag. I think women could sympathize more with this if instead of "sleeping with a lot of men makes you damaged", it's instead framed as "being damaged probably means you've slept with a lot of men". And FWIW, I have a much higher limit for what is considered "high" compared to a lot of these men. I laughed when a guy said an n-count of 7 makes her a slut. No, not even close.

However, don’t be fooled as the comparison isn’t fair. I think that because cosmetic enhancements and makeup are so common now, that is the reason why they’re more attractive. I barely see good looking guys, but good looking women are everywhere. I think it goes beyond cosmetic enhancements and makeup. Dimorphic conventional beauty standards give women a huge edge over men as well. https://youtu.be/0xhXDAEsIzo

Because most people already know that. My gripe isn't what TotalTravesty said, it's the absolute brainless psychology articles that get repeated like gospel truth when all they're doing is reducing men's dating struggles to a lack of emotional intelligence. It’s almost like men want to force women to date men they aren’t attracted to which doesn’t make since because that would just waste the time and money of both parties on the date. Yeah, of course, but that's not addressing the point of the post. If a guy can get dates and surface level interest from women and still consistently fails, then he is probably lacking some social and emotional intelligence. If a guy cannot get dates and surface level interest from women (which is most men, tbh), social and emotional intelligence are non-factors in his lack of success.

Pretty much all relationships are established with mutual consent. Since monogamous relationships are a zero-sum game, the 29 yo man in a relationship 22 yo woman is as much to blame for increasing the bar for 22 yo men as she is. Forbidden fruit, I guess. Casual sex can still be extremely validating in the short term because the women willing to do it are in short supply. Most of them got their man-hoe phase over with pretty early before realizing they wanted something deeper and more intimate. So in the modern day, we get a situation where men aren't encouraged to focus on their looks to nearly the same degree that women are, which is why a lot of men are poorly groomed and poorly dressed. Regarding social skills, despite women probably being on average more competent at it, the bar is still higher for men. The majority of the effort still falls on men as the proactive gender to initiate and escalate due to gender roles that aren't going anywhere, which takes skill and experience.

It was never controversial. What makes women physically attracted to men is a bit complicated. If you're funny and charismatic, then some women can start to be more physically attracted to that guy, even if they weren't initially. Not saying women should feel compelled to go out with guys they are physically repulsed by, but social media expectations and abundance of options have driven looks standards to the point where, in most cases and for most younger women, if you're not a 10/10 (to her), you might as well be a 0.

"I never would've swiped right on my husband if I found him on a dating app." "I wasn't initially attracted to my boyfriend. Then on the third date, something just clicked and he's the most attractive guy in world to me." "There wasn't a lot of chemistry on the first few dates with my current boyfriend because he wasn't really my type and he seemed nervous." ...are all phrases I've heard by women. I don't see a lot of conventional dating advice telling women to "take one for the team" just to so…

Different beauty standards, different rules. Modern conventional beauty standards dictate that there will always be more attractive women than attractive men.

As opposed to other factors (luck, atomisation of society, and yes physical attractiveness, or even just having a slightly different lifestyle) lots of men I assume everyone online See, if you had led with these qualifiers/caveats I would agree. Now it just looks like your backtracking.

Good to know though, that way I can stop feeling bad for men who I thought was just lonely. Instead it's I've learned that they're well... What you see on ppd. Just World Fallacy in a nutshell.

Who is "y'all"? There is no "collective men", only individual men that exist on the margins of society to various degrees and for various reasons.

The majority of women are in relationships though.

Maybe a bit but I don't get that from him. He's confident but attempts are always going to land differently depending on how you are perceived.

Not that I know of, no. If he does, he's keeping it on the DL.

I would put fitness under face but I generally agree. My 6'5" friend who doesn't lift, looks like big bird, and pulls in an average salary has never been single for more than 4 months for the past 8 years. My 5'5" friend who powerlifts at the competitive level, has the face of a model, and pulls in more than $200K/year hasn't been in a relationship since high school.

I would say that even this is difficult. Maybe it's just my (mixed-gender) friend group, but there aren't really an abundance of single women that choose to go out often enough to build any kind of rapport. I don't know what I'm supposed to do if less than 1% of your average, mid-20s, single woman's free time is spent putting herself in situations where she'll even be around single men. There's just a general feeling of apathy in the dating market where I am. I don't even mind approaching, plann…
