They could have helped her.

I am specifically speaking about if she was a woman of colour in a relationship with her white partner. I made this inference because of how her whiteness did not help her because the police officers dismissed her and chose to sympathize with her partner. In fact they wouldn’t have been as diplomatic in their interaction. Black women are routinely physically and sexually abused by the police because no one cares. 75,000 black women are missing today in America. So no, the outcome would have been…

Thank you for sharing. Whiteness (as a reality & as a construct) actively plays a part in cops' ability & willingness to help. I could not agree more. I just wonder if white women see or are aware of it?

Maybe she would have felt comfortable calling the police for help**, but when those cops showed up and threatened HER with jail because he had some scratches on his cheek,** even though onlookers reported him pushing her, and her being upset was used as "she was mentally unstable", she felt even more trapped in the relationship and afraid to ask for help. This might sound controversial, but hear me out. What if Gabbie had been a POC? Would the police have pressed charges? Would she be alive and …

My heart goes out to her and her family! You're right, our emotional and physical reactions to danger (be it physical, emotional, psychological abuse) are used against us. Unfortunately, it is hard to listen to our intuition if we are not used to using it. The more we use it and rely on it to navigate dangerous situations, the less we second guess our gut reaction, regardless of whether the harm is coming from a stranger or someone we know (platonically or romantically).

where as there is a more sympathetic tone when speaking of male perpetrators It's the same tactic used when they report white males who commit hate crimes. For example, look at how Robert Aaron Long was humanized after killing 8 people (6 Asian women). He was having a 'bad day' and deflected the issue to his sex addiction.

Exactly, men are given grace. Men can see past other men's mental or personality disorders. Society/misogyny will not allow women the same grace that men are afforded.

First of all the entry level to be slapped with the crazy label is far lower for women than it is for men. So many behaviors seen as normal behavior in men- anger, sexuality are considered abnormal or can be spun as crazy in women. At the same time the burden of proof for a man to be labeled crazy is sky high and many engage in deeply psychotic, off the rails behavior without ever being called anything more than eccentric- Woody Allen anyone? 💯💯💯 A perfect example is Kanye West. Although he is d…

This is so disturbing and disgusting. I truly believe the only solution is prevention. Especially when children are still young and impressionable (even teenagers). Being aware of what your underage child, sibling, or cousin is consuming is important. Instead of shaming them, focus on educating them about the effects p has on their developing brain and how they will become desensitized over time. Fight the new drug has a blueprint on how to approach this conversation.

It was insanely addictive and very traumatic. 💯 Unfortunately, many young teenagers consume and recommend toxic books that they are not equipped to digest. BookTok and BookTube content creators often glorify these types of books with little to no warning.

Without their status and wealth, they would be a quick swipe left. Unfortunately, some women would date them. This trend is disturbing and has power dynamic issues. I personally believe they should stick to other celebrities and PR coupling (cough cough, Bennifer).

Laila Mickelwait with TraffickingHub/ExodusCry Yes, I am aware of this and keep updated on the fallouts of these disgusting platforms that exploit women and girls. My heart goes out to the survivors. As a Canadian, I am closely following the p***hub/mindgeek investigation and keep an eye on this and this.

So true! I would go so far and say child sex trafficking. They use platforms such as TikTok and Twitter to target and groom underage girls.

It's been a year, and still no police accountability. Police don't care for black and brown bodies, nor do they care for females (of all races/ethnicities). Police will always protect their own and protect their institution.

Movies like 50 Shades of Gray or the Twilight series have been doing great damage by portraying disturbing abuse as true love and trapping young girls into a waiting pickmeisha mindset. I agree. It permitted women to accept such abuse. It's toxic and harmful. There's nothing romantic or praiseworthy to have a stalker, controlling, abusive, obsessive guy. Personally, I think these stories should have stayed on Wattpad. The sad thing is women wrote these books and continue to write these type of b…

You're right. Also, please do your due diligence regarding frozen embryos (although Sofia won against her ex). This also reminds me of the risks of surrogacy. Both are not regulated.

"Men live to impress other men ... make another men feel some type of way" and "Men don't respect women and they view women as commodities because you only date women to seek male approval." Hence, trophy wives are still a thing.

The "don't get a nanny, don't get help" is something unique to the nuclear family model practiced by some countries. It is normal in my culture to have help, be it my aunts or other women who were paid to help. It's unfortunate women are shamed for getting help and don't have the extended family support system to raise their kids.

Eternal fiance?! She's in denial. In Ontario, Canada, unmarried couples who purchase a home should have an agreement: "A cohabitation agreement is essentially a contract that outlines how a couple will deal with assets like property and spousal support should they break-up or one person dies, Issac says. It helps prevent future legal issues, and clearly outlines who owns what. These agreements are especially vital if property is only in one person’s name (i.e. “on title”) but both parties put mo…

I agree! Also, her vile movie perpetuates stereotypes of the Black/Muslim community and glorifies child pornography in the guise of feminism (as the protagonist liberates herself from her religion and culture). The Black Muslim community is so diverse. The director generalize the Senegalese community as being so backward that a child has to twerk and exploit herself to freedom/autonomy.

This is the kind of legislation that passes when there is a significant presence of female members of parliament. I hope more women earn seats in parliment and I hope Canada follows suit.

modern porn is a gateway to mental illness It truly is. Ted Bundy spoke about how damaging pornography is to the mind and how it fueled and contributed to his sexual violence and murders. I hope your friend is safe in her new city.

How pathetic that he lied about wasting money on OnlyFans. The fact that he took out an eight thousand loan and spent it on OnlyFans illustrates that he is not financially literate. She should cut her losses and raise her kid on her own 🤷🏾‍♀️.

Thank you for sharing the link! Very insightful. I remember coming across a female Youtuber who bought a home with her ex and the struggle she had to go through to get full ownership of their home. Second, unfortunately that girl in the story stayed with that guy! *facepalm*

Any situation I knew of where the boyfriend and girlfriend moved in together went to hell. Most of the time, one ended up cheating on the other, but the money aspect made it a mess. God forbid these people bought a house. Totally agree! It amazes me that unmarried folks buy property together and mix/share finances. The pompous guy next to me announces, "Oh, me and her aren't married. We're living together because, you know, YA GOTTA TRY BEFORE YOU BUY!" I could see how shocked the girlfriend was…

Be aware that just because a man agrees to move in together, doesn't in any way mean that he sees a future with you at all. They move in with a girlfriend to get a free cleaning service, emotional labor, sex with no effort and someone that cooks for them. Keep your flat/house, most men aren't worth it. Fact! In fact, many cultures/religious backgrounds shun cohabitation until one is married. Might as well save oneself from the headache and stress of maintaining a household where he is willing to…

I like to garden, sew, crochet, knit, embroider, interior decorate, have an interest in cooking and finding recipes, have a fashion hobby (my money, my apartment, I think I need to add that), I like to socialize with other women, I'm into skin care and generally take good care of my body and health, I cry easily when I watch touching scenes in movies etc. There is no shame in having such hobbies and interests even if a man does not approve of it. These are hobbies and interests that I pursue reg…
