Sometimes it takes some wandering to arrive at peace with these things. Good luck.

At first I thought your response was harsh, but then I too looked up the OP’s profile. Yeah, that’s a very irresponsible thing to have out there when you are looking to get divorced and not lose everything.

Very good advice here. I just went through something similar. She suddenly wanted to change, and stopped doing all the petty shot I have mentioned over the years that I didn’t like. Which initially made me sad, then angry. Like, “I wasn’t worth you changing your behavior until I said I wanted out? So you CAN change, but only if your cushy lifestyle is threatened,” We “tried” making it work for several months, but I know I was done. You can’t expect somebody to honestly change with the gun of div…

I need to talk to you, and there never seems to be a good time for this. So, this isn’t working for me - something is missing. I’m not feeling it anymore. “Even when I was single I was never really single”. Oof. I feel that. I WISH I had taken the time to be single for a while. I’m now thinking a minimum of a year or two. Otherwise it is too easy to avoid doing the work to define and know yourself as an individual, without that addictive (but fleeting) dopamine hit.

I started dating before my divorce was final. I never took the time to heal. The amount of time it takes is different for everyone, but I gave it zero time- just jumped in and enjoyed the dopamine rush of a new relationship. That covered up the need to work through the pain and learnings from my divorce. Eight months later we got married. That was seven years ago, and during that time I DID heal, and found out that I should NOT have gotten married so fast. Because what I want now is nothing like…
