What? Google celebrates tons of days that aren't on the UN list. Tomorrow is Teacher's Day for example, which the UN recognizes in October. My wife is a part of your community and she's the smartest person I know. There's definitely a lot of good being done in the subreddit, just don't let personal disagreements influence your moderating. The best way to deal with a fool is to let him have his voice and showcase his folly. Exercising restraint only reflects well on your community.

Taking the high ground in arguments like these makes it a lot easier for third parties to get on your side. I think you're largely in the right in this thread, but responding to insults with insults dillutes your moral victory. Remember that there's a difference between criticism and insults: criticism seeks to be constructive, where insults try to tear down. Graciously respond to criticism, and don't return insults with insults.

I've read both accounts and it looks like a case of two people getting their blood pressure up and getting in an argument; however, I expect moderators to roll with the punches and not abuse their post removal powers to get back at someone they don't like. Nothing OP did was worthy of removal, and while OP's attitude could have been much better I'm disappointed that a moderator's role seems to include picking petty fights over word choice and turning constructive threads into unhelpful ones.

To be fair it looks like the mod was the only person picking at OP's word choice and the community had OP's back on that issue. Where OP slipped up is by calling the community "a bunch of mouth breathing man haters" when he should have kept his crosshairs directly on the person picking at him. I read both accounts in full. My opinion is that the mod split hairs over inoffensive word choice, and removed the post when he got a rise out of OP. OP could have easily rolled with the punches and kept his beef with the specific mod instead of throwing shade at the community who was backing him up at that point.
