I’m also 24 and experiencing all these same issues. When I was young I grew up in mostly white schools and was rejected constantly while watching most of my peers succeed. I think it really fucked my confidence and I’ve never fully recovered. I’m black.

Don't mention the word date... Don't make it a thing. I think what you should do is just schedule a time to get ice cream and then flirt with her there. Thanks for taking the time to read and answer to the post and I appreciate the advice. You say to stop being awkward when I escalate, but I don't know how not to be? It's not a thing of me being sheepish or whatever when I ask because I'm very clear about it.. I just don't think I'm asking in the right way. So what's the right way? Or is that something that comes with practice and intuition?
