I will share what my wise mother told me when my son was about the same age. He would wake up in the middle of the night and refuse to go back to sleep. She told me to make sure his diaper was dry, he didn't have anything pinching him, and wasn't hungry. If everything checked out give him a good snuggle and kiss, put him back in the crib, say nighty night and close the door when I left the room. And not to go back in even if he was crying for me to come back (as much as an infant can do that). O…

Occasional poster. Married 30 years to the man I love and who is my best friend in life. Appreciate so many of the posts I read and how everyone tries to help others with their issues.

I totally agree. It also sounds like you really need to (perhaps) not have such a clean house, stop doing things he is perfectly capable of doing for himself, stop being the major planner of things, and stop blaming yourself for, well, everything. Don't give yourself a reason to be a martyr. You also are assuming that we all think you're at fault. Stop that stop that. You are both going through untested waters right now. It's bound to be incredibly stressful. Others here have counseled you to tr…

I worked full time in high stress sales until my son entered kindergarten. It was a wonderful experience. I was able to shift from work to volunteer mode at the school. I was always there if he got sick, or reciprocate with other moms, get to know the teachers at school, have meals done timely etc etc etc. When he started to drive I went back to work. Do keep in mind that family life, a healthy family life, is the best gift you can give a child and you only get one go. Working part time? Sure. B…

Ouch. Personally my initial reaction is "mmm, might rethink that one"...

You absolutely cannot take responsibility for your husband's dependency problem. It won't matter how clean your house is or how good a wife you are. You really really need to find an Al Anon chapter to attend. Please. For yourself and your sanity and your health.

My advice to you is to accept the gift not as something you wanted or asked for or needed or specified but as something he spent time to get just for you while thinking about you. My husband has given me plenty of things over our 30 years that weren't exactly what I wanted or asked for or specified but I enjoy them and use them just the same. There are bigger things in life than getting a gift I really wanted. Having a man who loves me and hasn't become afraid of giving me a gift because it's no…

All awesome advice...especially the meat thermometer.

I'm no wiz at decorating but I've leaned one or two things over the years. If you have a clever friend or two who has done a great job with their own place ask for ideas. If your place is small it's probably best to stick with a neutral soft color that makes you feel relaxed and happy. Pop things out with accessories, such as plants, candle holders with some flair, bookends, pots with dried eucalyptus (they come in so many colors), art, what have you. If you stick with a basic color scheme you c…

Oh my two weeks? Slow down! Don't hinge your hopes so quickly on someone who is really a stranger to you. Get involved with some other things not just to "keep busy" but to nurture your own interests. I'm no spring chicken really but when my mom used to say play a little hard to get it was for a good reason. Keep them intrigued. Don't let your desire for a relationship be the over arching goal. Making a man feel hunted is a sure fire recipe to ensure he stays in hiding. And I agree that one shou…

As a woman I can tell you you made an excellent decision, the only one you could and should have. The advice you're getting from the guys here is spot on. Block her phone. Change your locks. Get restraining order. Spread the word (pre-emptive). Watch the movie Fatal Attraction and take care of YOU. Your well being. Your finances (get Lifelock). She's a mistake only if you don't learn from the experience. Go on to have a fruitful and productive life!

I'm a RPW...I agree with your comment. And your last line is one Winston Churchill would be proud of! (He was quite the linguist)

I'm old enough to remember the VERY beginning of the women's lib movement. It is now NOTHING that it originally stood for. The pendulum has swung and I hope there will be a return to balance. There are most definitely innate differences between men and woman ON THE WHOLE. Camille Paglia has a take on this that in my opinion is succinct and precise.

If you're just looking for a casual friendship that's one thing. If you're looking for a possible permanent relationship I would say "Run Forest, Run!!!" From your responses however it seems you want to keep trying. The only thing I can say is you have to respect yourself first. Behavior can be modified somewhat but the person needs to want to modify their behavior. From my experience one must take people as they are...accepting the good and the bad.

It takes practice. My husband has one of several nicknames for me..."the Great Inquisitor". I have worked over thirty years to temper this beast, and it had worked to my betterment.

Can't think of a single thing to add. Except maybe don't grill him about what's bothering him (today), after a while he may open up or he may want to just keep it away from his mind.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
