Oh I didnt mean "date anybody" even if I wrote something about settling that might imply that. Have typed a ton tonight. Definitely wasn't ever thinking about fully desperate people with zero standards.

Miserly dick = volcel? Haha Ok but seriously that gets into the warped expectations from overusing porn, and how sex is treated as a $ based commodity (it always was but it's much more now in the age of onlyFans and internet ad revenue). I'd argue that what we like to watch in porn isn't always what we want IRL, or if we do, we know it's ridiculous, unrealistic and not the kind of fantasy that a real live woman is going to indulge us in. Sure, you hear stories about college freshmen who ask thei…

Not me. Literally dont care if she makes more $$, as long as the two of us together are making more than enough to get by, and we're putting about the same effort into our life together in whatever ways we do. Would prefer I find her attractive. Confidence is fine, except if that means she starts thinking I'm not good enough (if confidence raises her standards). The tradwife thing is weird, been seeing some really stupid shit on youtube and tiktok about it. Seems like a MAGA-sphere phenomenon bu…

Yeah this has been one of the more thoughtful responses even if I don't entirely agree. Ew. This also proves my point Do you mean your point that "if his standards haven't grown then he hasn't"? I don't really see how. Hormones are serious as far as drugs go, and ours just happen to make us stupid and horny more often than yours do. Maybe not "constantly", that was an embellishment on my part to highlight my view that it doesn’t change much over time. Anyway it doesn't make us bad people or nega…

Women rate themselves by men’s standards. When you say men's standards, that's really your (women's) perceived idea of what you think men want, aka the male gaze or whatever, right? And maybe it's more about what you think the men you want want... if you believe the redpilled premise that almost all women are going for the top fraction of men, and then think those guys are only going for super hot model types. I dont think it's 80/20 IRL like it is on the apps but seems like it's at least kind o…

Art imitates life, it's at least evidence that the idea rings true for people. But seriously if you're a reasonably attractive woman you could stop wearing makeup and doing your nails and fashionable hairstyles etc, and the men who would've wanted you before would almost all still want you. (Same goes for the other assorted LGBQT folks who are attracted to women). But the other women around you are more likely to talk shit behind your back if you go out without getting dolled up. Depending how i…

Yeah but that's the top 1% of rich and famous so I'm inclined to think their behavior and instincts would be a bit different than like the top 20 or 30 bracket. For one thing they have constant media attention so they're a lot more worried about public perception for their "brand" or whatever. But mostly, those celeb guys will always have a large pool of top tier women and will therefore not have to consider the mid to better than average that tests my theory. Hey now, where exactly am I blaming women for any of this in a "how dare they" sense? I do think the downstream effects of all this are bad for society and everybody but I'm not trying to make any moral judgements on anybody, and I don't intend for anyone reading or commenting to do that but clearly it's BYO bias and chips on shoulders today. Just trying to point out this is a thing that's happening and bounce ideas around as to how and why. But I am getting annoyed that most of the comments jum…

Seems like you mostly agree with me and are saying yeah of course that's how it is and thats how it should be. I'm for the idea of weighing pros and cons, so applying my general thesis in that context, I assert that when a woman is doing pretty well she starts requiring a LOT more in the pro column and tolerates practically nothing in the con column. Ends up rejecting guys who have many more pros than cons that really would be a clear net positive but not quite enough of a high ratio as she sees…

We don't generally recieve as much empathy concern amd support as you ladies do but that's a whole other series of conversations. Also quit being a jerk, will ya? We all know what friendship is even if men tend to experience it less
/r/PurplePillDebate02/05/25 01:47 AM

Agree that women naturally receive far more empathy and support, both in this context and generally. There's that "oh honey" instinct, whereas a man gets told "tough shit bro, deal with it" if we get any feedback or even seek comfort and validation. But women don't always get that. They're not necessarily going to talk to their girl squad about every guy who immediately unmatches on an app, and the mids of the world get a lot of that. Or if they do get that support and validation, do they believ…

Those things may make us attractive to women, but are totally irrelevant to what we are attracted to in women. Our ceiling of who we can get with will definitely rise, but the floor of who we would get with? Not so much. If I find a woman desirable, I'll desire her, simple as that. Why? I think the same reasons male thirst is a reliable constant hum in the back of our minds, and if we like a woman we don't get in our head looking for reasons not to get together. Older guys who will hit on younge…

Uhh, for one thing I don't see how it has to do with living together or not, I'm talking about standards for hooking up or starting to date somebody. Feels a little false-equivalency too. But I'll try to take this in good faith and boil your statement down to "women don't want to settle, while men often will." Sure, I don't disagree. My intention is to dig deep into WHY we settle or not, and identify the factors that determine where we set our "good enough" threshold, and how men and women might…

On the insecurities thing: I also think men and women respond to rejection differently and that changes how easily we develop insecurity. When we're told (or treated as though) we're not good enough, our initial snap response is "no that's wrong, I am good enough, and screw anybody who says otherwise". Because testosterone maybe, and that we were told to confident, self assured. These days people call that "unearned confidence" which I think is a dumb term because how does one "earn" the right t…

/r/PurplePillDebate01/05/25 03:39 PM

I think most people are mediocre, men and women alike. Almost everybody has something to offer though. Men are still expected to bring very specific traditionally masculine things to the table, and guys who might have a lot to offer but not financial security and social status are not getting romantic opportunities. But the main point is that most women's standards are now significantly higher than mediocre, even if they are also mediocre, and that's a factor in the declining quality of life for…

the things that get girls have nothing to do with their virtue But men are literally perpetuating that by pedestalizing and chasing women based on their looks. Fair point, but I think the reality is that cis-het men and women are both perpetuating shitty sexual behaviors in the other gender, in a vicious cycle that's recently started to spiral badly. I think it's due to the legacy of patriarchy, and our recent clumsy attempts to "shatter it" and achieve equality one thing at a time in selective …

For a start, let's get radically serious about equality. By that I mean: Eradicate ALL gender-based double standards, not just the ones that harm women. Well I don't really blame feminism for the age gap or much of what OP lists, just the off-the-rails aspects of modern feminism for teaching Gen Z and younger millennial women to hate and fear men generally, and possibly be more wary of older men's attention. Hey that's the first time I've heard a lady complain about post-wall dudes, lol! The relatability thing is big for me too: as an elder millennial who relates to Gen X more, I usually date women my age or a little older. I totally thought the…

OK, that absolutely makes sense as applied to third world child marriage situations, which obviously highly impact the overall marriage age gap in those countries, but I feel like the discussion here has been focused on the age gap in relationships and marriages between consenting adults and how that impacts the dating market conditions in cultures where feminism is mainstream.

Reminds me of a few years back when I was hired to be a teacher's aide at a public school. I think there's a lot of reasons for the lack of visible discussions of better male birth control: first, a lot of guys are probably ignorant of the fact that any options besides condoms and vasectomies could possibly exist, and it doesn't occur to them to look into options. That marshmallow thing is kind of a big deal in both economics and moral philosophy, concept is called delayed gratification. Do you want 5 bucks right now or 20 next week? Can you wait your turn for a shared resource so it's more efficient and fair for everyone? Do you sell out the next generation's future livelihood for short-term profits? As it applies to sex though, male thirst is real, and on average we're also more likely to be reckless and impatient

Always? I have this impression (very possibly from movies) that in the 70s and 80s there was at least some moderate amount of 20something women marrying guys in their 30s. Eh, for one thing there are just way too many points in the cycle and some of of the links are tenuous in terms of causation or even association. For example the very top and bottom: feminism -> entitlement and bitter FDS -> more feminism don't really track for me. Although, Jesus F-ing C are those FDS chicks ever entitled. But that doesn't mean feminism's mainstream ascendance is the primary cause of everything messed up in the culture war over gender issues (although it certainly plays a role …

Fair points, and also what those other factors are will vary greatly by age bracket. Like "trendy" is probably golden for 22-29, "ambitious/interesting" for 30-39, "stable, has pulse" for 40+, and "attractive, not poor" are of course evergreen. We know most/all women tend to compartmentalize very different sets of criteria for Mr Right vs Mr Right Now, usually success/status for Right, and attractiveness/charisma/trendiness for RN. My point relates to the hypergamy aspect of all the criteria: th…

feminism has meant women are less reliant on men’s money That's one way of looking at it, and not the whole picture. The fact that career women make good money is awesome, but the fact that it raises the bar for what they expect from an eligible suitor is really bad and unsustainable, and IMHO will accelerate the incel problem more than any online radicalization. And this bears repeating: hypergamy isn't really about money, even the rare blatant gold digging is rooted in what the money represent…

To be fair, OP didn't nail down age brackets on this so framing it as 20something ladies x 40something dudes is a bit of a mischaracterization. It's just the general trend of age gaps, which in my experience varies between Gens X Y and Z. I feel like young 20something women are EXTREMELY wary of any advances from men even 5-10 years older, having come of age with the influence of mainstream feminism. Meanwhile, seems like a lot of mid-to-late thirties women are coupling with 40-50something dudes…

So first, I'd argue that 30 minute sitcoms and 90 minute romcoms are a realistic template for how to live and love... in the same way that US cable news is a trustworthy source for unbiased and accurate journalism. Also there's waaaaay more to media than TV shows and movies, which is what I assume you're mostly referencing. Obviously porn is a bad influence for young men, not only in making them think women are into rough/risky sex or turned on by rapey situations, but it also creates a very unr…

Yuuuup... Also late thirties, and I was raised with the idea that gold-digging/social-climbing women are the exception not the rule, and that most women are just looking for love based on personal compatibility. Not real sure exactly what instilled that, but I think at least part of it was those 80s/90s movies and sitcoms I think you're talking about where the female lead chooses our hero for his virtue over the villain/bully with the money and power. Agree, the ritual withholding as a test or indicator of long-term commitment is ridiculous and way too common, and all the rules go out the window anyway when people are drunk or being manipulated. Questions for OP: Do you consider asexuality to be a spectrum or a 0/1 binary? And, have you experienced any increased degree of sexual interest or pleasure when drunk and/or high?

Feels like it from where I'm sitting? Most women on the apps say they're looking for a relationship (and a good amount of them specifically say some variation on "NO HOOKUPS!)", might see 1 out of 20 looking for something casual. Again, might be a generational age-bracket thing. And western culture isn't a monoculture. America seems to be fucked in ways that are different from Canada/EU. And within USA, things will be different for red/blue, city/country, poor/mid/rich.

Yeah I don't think it's exclusive to left or right though, maybe different in style and degree. Like, I still see radical progressive and neoliberal women slut shaming and gossiping at each other. Mmm idk, I support Carano but she really got fired for "beep bop boop" and "boop you", if she had just shut up and never changed her Twitter bio she'd have been fine. Then months later, Disney just used that sloppy Nazi comparison repost as a convenient excuse. Anyway who got fired or lost a gig for not speaking out against her? Rather than actively defending her.

In a word, status-mongering. However well a woman is doing, she'll feel like she is supposed to increase her social status through a match and hold out for that, rather than pairing off with an equal and striving for a better life together. You'll never see me calling anybody a golddigger because even the income thing is really about status and lifestyle, or "keeping up with the Joneses." Agree that patriarchy as a collection of gendered double standards ultimately is bad for most everyone. My biggest gripe with modern feminism is some feminists' insistence on only dismantling the parts that harm women, while leaving intact or even denying the existence of the parts that harm men and accusing anyone who wants to talk about that of "whataboutism". Not that you're doing that, but it's a thing. Well that's going to be nigh impossible to quantify, since I'm mostly talking about emoti…

Right let's focus on career then. Here's my take on how OP's thesis applies to the job market and working conditions: Generally, women have an easier time finding work, then have to deal with tons more nonsense once they have a job (harassment, office housework, office politics, makeup tax, glass ceiling/cliff, etc.) For men, the opposite. Job hunting sucks, but once you get in the door it's usually easy to coast through or even fail upwards if you've got charisma or clout. I am presently coasti…

You may have built some of that, but the foundation was already there for you in the form of societal norms that expect women to mutually support each other while expecting men to fend for themselves. Men who support others, especially female friends, often don't get support in return. And when they notice that and complain they'll get accused of having a sense of entitlement or only helping others because they want something in return. Let's focus on the BH thing: seems like you're arguing that OP's whole point is invalid because BH saw the boys as a threat rather than disposable nothings, honestly I figure it's a bit of both, and also wanting to fully stamp out the Christian influence which they see as a threat to their culture. Dehumanizing the victims through tribal out-group psychology. But OP wasn't arguing anything about BH's motive for murdering the boys. Hey it's not my definition, just my take on what people mean when they say the word privilege these days... Which is far enough away from both the proper definition and the original connotations that gen X and older have of the word, that it may well be a misnomer. As applied to OP's post and women's privilege: cis-het women generally have much less of a struggle with dating than cis-het men or at least a different struggle, and are therefore privileged
/r/PurplePillDebate26/02/21 11:24 PM
2

And the other other definition of privileged: not being oppressed or deprived to the extent that others are, or historically have been. I've found that meaning to be closest to what people actually mean when they're talking about privilege in context of social justice. It's just a small switch to the frame of reference: not being subject to negative stuff, instead of having access to positive stuff, but it makes a ton of difference in terms of perspective.

I define it as intentionally using a romantic relationship to increase your quality of life in a materialistic or superficial way, usually through wealth, power, or social status. I think that's bad because a good relationship should ideally be a goal in itself but in hypergamy it's a means to an end: a golden ticket for the gravy train to the good life on easy street, if you will. I think there's also an element of women being attracted to superiority, which does not bode well for any lasting e…

Yeah but I still think the larger principle applies, that women who are or could be interested get turned off when men respect their boundaries. So, men learn that pushing boundaries is the only way to ever get anywhere, and that's why you have to deal with guys always trying to angle for romance whenever you're friendly to them. Really I think the reason "friendzoning" is a thing is that women insist on strict compartmentalization between friendship and romance. I would love to be able to start…

Boundaries are tough. Also, I think we as men learn less about boundaries and different lessons if we even think about them at all during our teenage and young adult years. so being hypergamous is finding someone who shares the same values to a greater extent than others? Why is that a bad thing? No that's nowhere close to anyone's definition of hypergamy. What I think it is: no matter how good the woman is, the man has to be better, and combine that with a superficial, materialistic, gimme gimme entitlement mentality. I think that's bad because it's incompatible with equality/equitability which is the direction that progressives are trying to steer the culture

They can, and I would hope that they do, and switch to better criteria which are less materialistic and more along the lines of "am I happier with him". Are you upset that women don't want spineless men they can push around, that they can beat in every category that women find important? No, I think it's BS that matching with an equal constitutes settling. Nobody wants to "date down" but the emphasis that women place on dating up (aka hypergamy) is ridiculous. Yeah, outliers exist, have noticed some here and there. I don't know these strawman people that you want me to stop listening to.

The number one problem in this country in terms of attractiveness is obesity Explain the "dad bod" appeal then. It can't just be daddy issues, it really seems like overweight guys get a pass as long as they exude alpha traits like power success and authority.

Yeah the focus on weeding out is pretty obvious. Notice women are constantly talking about red flags and dealbreakers, usually over super petty and trifling shit. The reason of course is the sexual double standard of glorifying male conquest, and of course slut shaming BUT the flipside of that is canonizing female purity as virtue. In terms of SMV being validated by sex: Men think we're only as good as the best woman we've seduced; while women seem to think they're as bad as the worst man they'v…

Better question: why isn't there a real male equivalent for feminism?

Look, hate is a strong word. I don't hate all women, or you... I don't know you, if I did I we probably wouldn't like each other (extrapolating from this discussion) but I doubt it'd jump straight to hate. I would like to have the latitude to call women on their BS (as we men have lately been called on ours) and not have everyone who identifies as a feminist immediately assume my arguments are rooted in hate. Women are judgmental/picky/insecure. Where have I ever denied that? I guess you didn't …

Is "women are judgmental/picky/insecure" even a controversial opinion? Certainly not here, going by top-level comments from women about how and why women select their friends. Anyway the interesting discussions only start when we accept the observable truth as a premise then ask why in terms of nature or nurture. Pfft at 99%, even allowing for rhetorical hyperbole 99 is way too high... I may be an asshole but there's no way I'm in the 99th percentile. Loads of other men view women as I do or wor…

38% of women out-earned their husbands So it's probably safe to infer that 62% of married men outearn their wives, and that these stats only apply to married couples that both still work. Overlooking single people including high-earning women who won't settle, relatively low-earning men who don't compete, and also possibly overlooking traditional single-earner married couples where only the husband works. Also: That link on the 38% stat goes to an article about how both men and women tend to lie…

Maybe... but what if the core issue is that half the human race is pathologically judgmental, picky, demanding, and insecure

Still make less than white men, white women, asian men, asian women on average That'd indicate race is a bigger factor than gender, at least for hiring and salary. This sub should really have a sticky megathread re the gender pay gap IMHO. lower average household income, though that's likely due to spouse choice/lack thereof True, and that's also going to be a big part of why they're more likely to be breadwinner/HOH assuming that classification includes single moms. Intersectionality would asse…

Black women doing better than black men. That undercuts the premise that racism+sexism is dramatically worse than just racism.

Lol yup, meanwhile I'm 36 and there are ladies my age going out with dudes in their forties. There's a lot going on with this though... First, there's the general "life-script" expectation that once you hit 30 (regardless of gender) you're supposed to be getting serious/respectable about your lifestyle, career, and partner. I don't ascribe to this but I recognize it in a large percentage of muggles especially my ex (who is my age) so I'm a bit biased here. So: when a man of a certain age wants t…

Ridiculous. Not everyone is constantly worried about "attention and validation", really just people who are starved of those things and or very insecure. Also I'd disagree that men paying for sex and women giving it up for free are effective ways to get validation. Even if any of this made sense, it wouldn't be "the reason" for the sexual double standard on N-count.

Fair point. I know some, and I know there are others I don't know because most women I dated didn't give honest feedback of what the real problem was, or even if it was their personal issue or my red flag. Sometimes I'll stubbornly pry the truth out, usually I'll just leave it be. I guess the "silly" ones have mostly been culture/values clashes, because I have a so many unconventional views on so much that I feel like I can't afford to hold out for someone with exactly my values or even close. M…

I think the root reason for this is other social forces that are not just about hetero sex issues. We all have a general gut feeling that there's too many damn humans on the planet already and the world's many problems will only get worse if we keep procreating faster than people die. Legally marriage is a bad deal for men at least in most of the US. Also there's generational stuff going on: young people aren't financially stable enough to blow money on a wedding, let alone support raising a chi…

I don't see it as a matter of respect or a maybe backup 2nd choice thing, more like I meet somebody awesome when it's bad timing for them or for me so I'm like "mm, save you for later..." in a theoretical future when we're both ready. And until then, we just hang out like people. It's just that I've noticed a pattern where as soon as she realizes I'll offer emotional support without going for something physical (by taking advantage of the emotional vulnerability, which I see as morally far worse…

First off, good for you for actually having conversations about real shit with male friends. That's awesome and rare. But I take issue with: But we would never date. That's the limit we've set and it's the only reason they value my input. I fully believe that if we dated they would change and start claiming emotions, not logic, are my main drive and stop hearing me. I've done this too and I don't just value their input because of the boundary, i value it because they're my friend and we're being…
