She may not be starting careers in the mid 2000's, but her education was in the twentieth century. I think yours and OP's view may be confirmation bias. Studies from 15-20 years ago show a significant difference in math and science skills between males and females, but more recent studies show there is no difference. However, there was evidence that even though females were meeting the same averages as males, males still had more representation in math and science fields. I think this might be d…

I've noticed this as well, but couldn't this be from females' inability to pursue careers up until recently?

I disagree. I think you are generalizing 3.5 billion people from your experience with at most a few thousand. Doesn't it make much more sense to say that everyone is pretty similar than to say half the population is main source of bad decision making? If you can cite any studies or proof of this notion that bad decision making is much more common in women than men, I will be more inclined to believe you. According to the study sponsored by the U.S. Department of Justice, titled National Crime Vi…

Couldn't that also be said for men who abandon their children? "I didn't want it. It's not my fault she wasn't on the pill." Or men who beat their children? "They were asking for it, it's the only way they'll learn." There was a man somewhat recently who kidnapped, tortured, and raped children and when questioned he said they deserved it. Women and men can be inconsiderate, but I don't think either one is worse or more inconsiderate or ruthless than the other.

But couldn't the same be said if a man was the one texting while driving?

But men have also been involved in accidents texting while driving, right? Is there a high margin between the two?

I'm sorry if this is obvious, but why is this in TRP? Shouldn't this be under /r/news or something?

I don't think you're understanding what I'm saying. I'm not telling you to abandon your views, I'm asking you to look at the views of others. I don't agree with your views, but I can comfortably see why you have them and don't really care if they're not the same as mine. What I was interested in was seeing your point of view concerning the perspective of others. Do you know what I'm saying? The double standard thing was my way of trying to say that neither logic made sense, to me. But in my opin…

I'm not saying I believe this, but I find it enormously hypocritical that TRP fought so strongly, claiming it wasn't a double standard that men who sleep with numerous women are studs while women who sleep with a lot of men are considered sluts. Simultaneously, you are preaching that there is a double standard when it comes to women dating younger men versus men dating younger girls-- although, oppose to the other one, this double standard is in favor of the women instead of the men. I'm not try…

I think you're missing what I'm saying. It's easy to get a much younger girl when you're an older man who can manipulate an inexperienced and unexpecting girl. It's much harder to go after a woman who is fit and outgoing, therefore it garners more respected.

I don't think I fully understand your analogy. Because, for me, the big parts of friendship are: enjoying each other's company, and subsequent care for one another. If the salesperson's only intention is selling me a car, then I wouldn't hang out with him, because he doesn't want to be friends. But if I met someone who I hung out with and developed a friendship with, it wouldn't matter if he was a salesman. But I still don't know how this furthers your point. Edit: Sorry that was a typo, I'm on …

You just said it yourself-- they have to look youthful. Not women can pull that off, which makes them seemingly more accomplished.

This concept is similar to the "double standard" of men who sleep around are gods, while women who sleep around are sluts. It's easy for a woman to sleep around, as I've read here, all she has to do is open her legs. While a man has to work hard, make sure his appearance and attitude are good. Similarly, it is easy for a an older man to get a young girl. All he has to do it act like the father she never had and give her all that teenage attention. Conversely, young guys are agile, fast, and just…

Couldn't she be trying to find a boyfriend or husband?

Oh, I think that was where I was confused. I thought he meant "date" as in a part of a budding relationship or ongoing relationship.

But in these stories, women do say they just want to be friends and don't want any romance. However usually the response is, "Don't ever talk to me again, your dead to me." Or something similarly dramatic. Is that saying that one can't be friends with someone they find attractive?

Then why not look for a woman who is only interested in sex for money? It seems to me, from your saying, OP will pay for the woman's dinner only if she has sex with him. That is sounds like he's interested in solely sex and is willing to pay. The woman may not have known those were his intentions and may just want to hang out with him.

I was just wondering. Maybe it makes him happy to be told what to do, what to eat, or what to buy. Maybe he doesn't care. Maybe he likes caring for your mother and likes how she treats him in return. I didn't mean to sound disrespectful, I was just trying to get the whole picture.

I have found that women usually do the same thing, they go back and forth in their minds of little games like, "Does he like me? Should I ask? Should I make a move?" They usually come to the same conclusion: "I have to act like the valuable, strong, and decent person I am."

Well she was being a good, respectable woman. She was only with you a year! That means she's not a whore.

Sorry if I missed this, but why can't men be friends with women? In the true sense of the word, at least

Oh, that firsts context as well. But I don't think OP was talking about becoming more manly, just more independent.

How does TRP relate to your new outlook? From what I've read TRP advertises practically the opposite- that men who sleep around are more manly and more respected. Your description of looking out for yourself and not worrying about random people's actions, sounds healthy to me. I think that's how most people behave; men and women.
