And people have been calling for the abolition of the EC since at least 2000 when Al Gore also won the popular vote. We're talking about two groups of people (democrats and republicans), one of which is much larger, but since the other is more spread out throughout the country, they are the ones represented by the new president while the democrats, who are the majority in this country, are not represented.
