Fair point, I guess what I’m trying to say is it’s kind of like slut shaming: women are usually the target, but both women and men perpetuate/partake in the practice. In the same way men can be both victims of circumcision and advocates for it. I’ve heard this phenomenon referred to as internalized sexism if that’s more straightforward. Obviously a surgery is a different ballgame than shaming as a rule of thumb, but do you see what I mean?

Both fathers and mothers are likely to go along with this norm if they haven’t thought it through though, even more so if it’s done for religious reasons...

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
