My ex-wife is a (wait for it) mental health therapist who did the exact same thing. She is a classic narcissist who cannot be held accountable for anything.

Individual counseling, yes. This came from my therapist. Just know that when she's angry, she's picking up hot coals bare handed and throwing them at you. Some of them may hit you or come close to you, but each time she picks one up, she's hurting herself before she even throws it! I'm sure many men can attest to that eventually.

Oh, and when you ask her what she does want. The answer is "I don't know!" So classic!

Yep. They conveniently forget that you had a life before them, and I had to remind my ex-wife many times that I will have a life AFTER her too.

That's the biggest scam out there. Mine tried that after she found out I filed. She only wanted it to be amicable and cheap so she could buy time to get her own representation, which was beyond second-rate!

This is why I filed and kept my foot on the gas. I didn't choose to defer to the second half. I wanted the ball immediately.

I filed first. Her first ex-husband also got tired of her and filed, too. My guess is that her new man will eventually get tired of her and leave as well. You can not announce intentions with a narcissist. By doing so, you only give them time to prepare. After my ex-wife did what she did on April 19, she knew it was done, but she didn't think I would pull the trigger. She found out that I filed for divorce when she tried to hire my law firm. Since they had her on the phone (on a Friday), they to…

Pray and get some mental health therapy. I'm still in contact with my former mother-in-law. I'm able to have that relationship because my ex-wife has not spoken to her own mother in almost two years. The best advice she gave me about her own daughter is that the more you get angry, the more she wins. That is what prompted me to intensify the therapy. I get the anger out, I win because I'm mentally and emotionally ready to move on like OP's handle! I'll give you perspective on the other side, too…

I don't know if there is a group for the front end of the marriage cycle, but the Divorced Men group should be referenced in it. Before I got married, I spoke with a divorce attorney (just in case something like this happened), so I would know what assets I could keep and what assets I had to share. It's a big reason my mother did not put me on her bank account until she dies (POD--payable on death). My ex-wife tried to go after that account until my lawyer showed her lawyer those three big lett…

Wow. I divorced mine 2.5 months after my new job. I did not know that women did that, too. I had to start a new career from scratch, which involved going to school and several years of hard work. She out earned me for 71 of the 74 months we were married. I see your point about lack of respect. When she found out that I would be out earning her in the last three months of our marriage (I told her my new salary), there was no celebration that the so-called "pressure" she felt would be relieved--ju…

Google Martindale-Hubbell and get you a top attorney in your state! Spend the money and tell her you mean business. Also, she is in the acting business so how do you know she's not acting right now when you talk with her?

Ya think?! My ex-wife is a mental health therapist who hasn't gotten over her first failed marriage of 20+ years. When we did the year or so of counseling, I made her split the cost so she would have some skin in the game. Always make them have skin in the game. It will save you money, if nothing else.

It sounds like she is method acting at home. The most dangerous thing is that she is messing with your spirituality. Also, anyone who won't work has no skin in the game, and by extension, won't respect you either. With that lack of respect, you WILL be taken to the cleaners when it's time. Everything you listed here are inherent issues that your spouse won't be able to change very easily. I'm talking about YEARS of HARD WORK! You'll have to determine what your happiness is worth, and you will ha…

Google "Martindale-Hubbell" (a resource for top lawyers) and get yourself a 1% attorney. These attorneys are the best of the best in your state and in Canada, if you live there. If you're the higher earner, then you owe it to yourself to get the best to protect yourself.

I was fortunate. GOD revealed the other side for me, which is why I was focused on putting the foot on the gas and not letting up. I wanted to hurry up and get there. My ex-wife was beyond frustrated with the pace with which I drove this process when I filed seven months ago. I got it done in six months and am just over a month of being free. As long as you keep your eyes on the prize, it's not failure. Use your "promised land" to keep you motivated. The world will continue you to be yours!

You just have to love the double standard. Those women who were mortified were only mortified because they knew they would not be able to take YOU to the cleaners. Well done, sir. I was married for 74 months. I made less and was made to feel less than her for 71 of those months. In month 72, I finally leaped-frog over her and made more than she, to her chagrin. The day after the 74th month, I filed for divorce, and she was livid that she had to pay me! It does happen, gentlemen. It does happen!

Introspection is the enemy of narcissism. My ex-wife is a two-time respondent dealing with her second failed marriage from two different men (I'm the second man who divorced her). It makes sense why she got another man asap. It keeps her running from the reality of having to deal with two failed marriages. In order to avoid taking any responsibility for her role in these failures, she will have to run for, literally, the rest of her life. What an exhausting existence. I thank God almost daily, o…

Remember, no one knows your ex-wife better than you do. Mine can't be by herself because she would have to face the demons that she has been running from. She has been running from man to man ever since her parents told her to either get a job or go to school when she was 18. She will be 59 this year. I thought she had dealt with her demons, but after 6 years, it was obvious that she hadn't, so I became the next man to leave her, too. I won't be the last person to walk out on her. There will be …

I worked too hard to get to where I am today to let some mental breakdown from a supposed mental health therapist--as a result of some unresolved previous marital issues--mess with my freedom or my earning power. That night, I hired an attorney and treated her like Sodom and Gomorrah. I never looked back!

I would have to agree. I was very fortunate to come out financially better than when I went in. God and therapy are an amazing tandem. Focusing on those "little" things is quite helpful for your state of mind too. As you become more grateful, more things will come in your life for you to be even more grateful.

I spoke with a divorce attorney BEFORE I got married, and I'm glad I did. It made the divorce process easier because I already knew what she could and couldn't do. There is nothing wrong with being proactive. It is better to have and not need than to need and not have.

The kicker for me was when I told my ex-wife that I got a new job with a great salary and that I would be able to take over paying for the health insurance. Instead of being happy for me and being grateful that the "pressure " of "having to carry the insurance " is off of her, she simply said, "Oh." That told me right then and there that she was not in my corner. I firmly believe that she was upset that I would be making more than her (and that includes half of her first ex-husband's pension tha…

Because insurance is now available for cohabitors, the only benefit to marriage now is a simple tax break. Of course, hindsight is always 20/20. I'd rather pay more to the government than get married again!

I have found the quickest way to lose a woman's respect is to pay for everything. If they have no skin in the game, there is no incentive for them to actively participate in the relationship. I made sure my ex-wife worked because I didn't want her to be able to use the alimony instrument. We also split the mortgage, so there was an even responsibility.

How about a service project? There are always people in need of mentorship. Perhaps you can offer someone a way out of something or a way into something.

That was me for two years. I had to change careers and start from scratch.

You absolutely 💯 did the right thing. I don't even know you, and I'm proud of you. More men need to stand up to this kind of nonsense! They want equal opportunity and none of the responsibility. Keep God with you too, bro!

I have one question. Was she representing herself when she tried to use DUI fines as marital debt? I can't imagine a bona-fide attorney trying to pull that stunt with a straight face.

That's the EXACT reason I left and filed for divorce. I could not risk her filing a false DV claim. The second that falls on my record, I lose my job. That's rolling loaded dice. I was fortunate. She was leaving to go out of town with her sister, so I had to be nice to her for 11 days until she left. Then, I promptly moved ALL of my stuff out into storage. If you don't have that luxury, get a lawyer immediately-preferrably a female lawyer, like I did, and get witnesses to accompany you to the ho…

Agreed. When I lament on "what could have been," I now know that it "could have been way worse" had I stayed, and I only filed almost 3 months ago. Everytime I think about how it would have been significantly worse, it snaps me back to a much more peaceful state. Now, those lamentations are becoming fewer and much farther in between!

Get into therapy as soon as possible to get rid of or, at least, mitigate the anger. As my mother-in-law told me (yes, we still talk weekly), as long as you're angry, she wins. That's all I needed for me. Also, you may want to start doing the things you want to do that you couldn't do in the marriage. For example, I started going back to church. Celebrate each time you do something that you couldn't do before.

I would love to tell the full story, but I'm only 2 months in and dont want to cause issues yet. I will say that your second sentence was the catalyst that got the ball rolling for me to file for divorce on (Cinco de Mayo). In this case, it was her first ex-husband's pension that was the issue for the same reason your refund went from $3000 to zero. I would be happy to provide more details when the divorce is final

I'm with azwildcat74. I already know it wasn't my fault. That's why I filed!

No doubt. Get into her head, stay there, and practice gratefulness !
