You are saying what your opinion is, and as an American I respect that, but you have understand that your perspective is as confusing as the link you posted; are you calling me a coward or congratulating me on being peaceful, or extraordinarily brave? Anyway, lets start basic. I don't know if you're American, but since you write in English I assume you know a little about American history. If you do. then you probably know all about the place of Afro-Americans in American society during the last…

Everything makes national new in Sweden! Nothing happens there. Like this; people had to wait 2 hours for trains.

This is one annoying person's blog. The title of this post is sensationalist.

No that wasn't at all what I was talking about. Saying that would be greatly simplifying a very complex issue. I was saying that Male privilege surely exists, but not half as often for the lower class. Also, just a reminder, I have to say that it isn't women sending poor people to war, it's rich men. I'm not saying women wouldn't if they had the same amount of power, but they don't, so they aren't.
/r/MensRights10/02/12 06:36 PM

Females don't have access to it even if they are rich.

Well we have different opinions on what was going on. I guess we will have to agree to disagree.

The problem is that men have splurged so much on women that it is now expected instead of appreciated.

She clearly stated she was trying to live like the morons ins Sex And The City. She was clearly 'playing the game'. Maybe she was hoping to find someone among these men, an maybe she was trying to develop an idea of how she wanted to be treated. Maybe she was using this project as a way to become more attractive to someone else (jealousy games). I disagree with you. It isn't that simple, she was definitely working with the intention of improving her options.
/r/MensRights10/12/11 12:34 AM

The point of her dating wasn't the free stuff. That was the angle the reporter implied. If anything it was a power trip. She was enjoying the attention and treatment. If it was just about the money she could have stuck with 4 or 5 rich ones.

I'm confused, if she wasn't competing in traditional gender roles, how do women compete? She was all decked out in makeup, she is thin, and in high heels. She was using her looks to sort through as many potential mates as possible in as little time as possible, giving no regard to how that would effect other women's chances with these men. The point of competing is screwing it up for everybody else.
/r/MensRights09/12/11 09:40 PM

I thought we were complaining about the repercussions of male competition in this thread? Does that mean you're okay with what this woman did?
/r/MensRights09/12/11 09:13 PM

I thought the problem was that women don't have to compete.
/r/MensRights09/12/11 08:52 PM

This is true. That's why it's silly to blame it on women. It's clearly caused by men fucking each other over.
/r/MensRights09/12/11 08:29 PM

If you had the choice of dating two identical women, only one of them gave you free stuff, youd chose the one with free stuff. This behavior is caused by men trying to outcompete each other without regard to the social ramifications of it. As men we have to take more responsibility for each other.

I've been with about 100 women in my 25 year old life. Never been called a manwhore. People look up to me as a matter of fact. How do you think a woman that has the same life-style would be treated?

Couldn't agree more. I'm just tired of people just blaming women. This whole system is dependent on men with capital to enable the whole process. The same men that don't want women to have capital because then they'd have less choice in women. Mind you, this is coming from an upper class man. Maybe I should just shut up, because a future me might regret shooting myself in the foot like this.
/r/MensRights20/09/11 06:18 PM

And if men are happy doing that why would the women stop taking them up on the offer? The more I think about this the more it seems like it's a class issue.

Just because higher status is something clasically reserved for males doesn't mean society has an easy time treating men like they're worthless as well. In fact, is is the pressure to perform and attain high status that is a large part of the problem.

Yes, I regret to inform you that this post is in fact a fully functional death star! But seriously, I'm just interested in getting a feel for the constituency of the men's rights forums. Even though we are all biased I have to say that instinct is a tricky subject. The definition of masculine and feminine varies much from place to place. But yes, on average there are similarities. I will gladly answer your question. I know that in the eyes of western society it is easier to have higher status as a man. The Abrahamic god is a man, the president is a man, it's always a list of the richest men in the world. We know money is power, and power is status. There is an old saying, behind…

The rest of the world does hold many different view. I used to spend a fair amount of time in Africa as a child. My father worked in environmental developement. This meant I had the great luck to be able to live with some masai tribes for a while. Until I was 13 I used to go live with them now and then. So yes, I have seen the other side of the spectrum, and I don't condemn that way of life under those circumstances. However, when it comes to modern society I think we can afford the luxury of ch…

As someone that has studied cultural anthropology in New York I run into these things fairly often, and it gets them off guard every time. But that might be because I'm dealing with academics and not crazy hobbyists. I see you didn't get what I meant at all. In order to further our cause men's rights must have an objective base. This means that studies will have to be performed on it. This means we need scholars. In today's society no one will take us seriously if these studies aren't conducted …

You paint a moving story and I agree wholeheatredly with almost everything. The male equivalent of a radical feminist would be the man who claims womens shouldn't have right, that they belong in the kitchen and so on. We know the exists and they are just as bad as any woman that would chose to confine us to any lifestyle not of our choice. But harken, the men's rights movement is still young, heck civil rights as a whole are pretty new. We live in interesting times and anything can happen. Let's…

Men do die earlier, but that is biological. Nothing we can do about that sadly. People retire at the same time. Taxes are high but healthcare and education are free. Sadly the economy has pulled a number on Sweden and ther are more and more stay home wives now. almost 200000 more men than women have jobs in the country now. It's not prefect, but still better than here in the US.

The main point of putting this out there is that there is a different perspective to feminism. Ones that can benefit men. It would be folly to totally alienate all aspects of it from the MRM. Do you have to convert? fuck no.

1 good point. However, I think the academic community (see: the feminists) owe it to society to build equality. And in many places feminist dogma has done a lot for the common man. The essentialist practice of labeling all feminists mysandrists is in my opinion detrimental to the Male rights cause. 2 You must remember that it isn't the state that is trying to shape sex in the examples you reference. I didn't come here to argue, take it easy. I came here to learn. but yes, that was what happened. It wasn't optimal, but it's what happened. And no, I'm not claiming that first and second wave were about both male and female rights, they were for women's rights to vote and work. Both just causes if you ask me. After that is has become more complicated. There was a populurized movement for human rights, it was tricky to rename it, they didn't. It wasn't pefect. The title third wave feminism came …

Yes, if i beileve that feminism was ok, but not fireman I would be hypocritical. But that isn't the case. It seems the true contemporary meaning is very subjective as of now. He's a comedian. Of course he's trolling. But If I had to take him seriously I'd guess he's arguing that sexuality is to a large part cultural, and can adapt after what is considered norm. I live in New York. This is mainly why I'm defending Sweden, because shit sucks over here. But I try to stay positive. The main reason I'm spending all this time on the issue of not demonizing the label feminism is because men need to learn to use it for their own benefit. A feminist is weaponless against a man that claims to be a feminist and backs it up with a good egalitarian argument. Now we just need more men taking 'women's studies' so they actually spend more time on men's studies. That w…

You sound like the kind of feminist that calls herself womyn because the word "man" is in the word. Frankly I think that is kind of silly. Yes, the word starts with 'femin'. I don't think it matters. The etymology doesn't define a word, the contemporary meaning does. To many people is means egalitarian.
/r/MensRights05/05/11 09:45 AM

No, if a person is feminist that persons gender is not defined by the term. Ok, if you're so sure then, what was his point?

People have the right to be equal. The individual is responsible for actually being equal. I"v met many a woman that has been far more capable than many men I've met. Of course the opposite is also true.
/r/MensRights05/05/11 09:38 AM

I couldn't agree more. I have no ideas at the time. Using the label feminist is very advantageous to me personally at the moment. Few woman will criticize a good egalitarian argument if you present it as feminist. And for all I care, it is feminist. I make it feminist But it will be hard to gather men under that banner. Time will tell what happens.
/r/MensRights05/05/11 09:36 AM

haha Godwins law. But I see your point. And that's why I think we need more men fighting for equality within the ranks of feminism as well. Get busy! Feminists are in government, and that's where we need to be as well. Don't let them scare you.

We also have a beer party. they propose to drink beer all day. Then we have the nymphomaniac party; a bunch of 50 year old men who want us to sit around and read sex novels all day. Then we have the Donald duck party. I could go on and on. They don't matter. We have people with to much free time.

Of course I believe in biological differences. I'm not blind. However the science of sex and neuroscience are shoddy to say the least. Some of the most intelligent people have been women. It doesn't take a scientist to figure out that less educated women equals less female scientists. This is all of course changing in modern times and women are doing more and more for science. It an individuals brain that matters, not the sex when it comes to invention.

Feminism isn't as far gone as that. Try it next time you talk to a feminist. Argue the same point you make in MR and say it's feminist. If she disagrees, tell her the truth; that she's sexist. Gets them every time.

We still have gender roles in Sweden, so even though we have extensive free health and psychiatric care, men just don't call for help as much as women do. that said, there's 2 male suicides to every 1 female suicide. Most men are over 65 and sick when the commit suicide. It's still a horrible disparity, and there are groups trying to up support for potential suicide victims.

No I didn't. Being a feminist doesn't ascribe gender in the word. Fireman does and firefighter doesn't. Because it's a historical term. The world appeared in the 1850's. That's when the women's movement started with the goal of equality between the sexes. Sure, things have changed along the way, but it's still the basic name. If I had to use the proper label it would probably be something like third wave neo post modern feminist. If it's her word against yours they can't put you in jail. Proof is needed. It is illegal to buy sex. But legal to sell it. Nah, I'd rather let all the sexists join /r/falsefeminism Feminists I grew up with always stood for equal treatment. I wish you would know the pleasure of having a female friends explain out of nowhere how alimony is bullshit. My time in America has let me grow to really get how special it is.

I think its boils down to gender roles. For some reason men do not have the long tradition women have of protest and organization to improve their standing in society. Some owuld even say that many men would find it deplorable to show themselves in a light where they complain about their status. Thus men have a harder time improving their situation. Grossly simplified of course. Most of these laws don't effect upper class men as much. I'm starting to thing that this issue has a lot more to do wi…

My spelling might be a little off because I've slept 2 hours in the last 30 hours. But my dad is American so my English should be sufficient. And Yes, I'm implying that in Sweden, even men use the term feminist as a synonym for egaliterian. Feminism says it's about equality and we will use it to create equality. Even though it has fem in it, we don't care. We want our rights.
/r/MensRights05/05/11 04:24 AM

Very good answer. But we arrive at the semantics again. As a man that was raised feminist, I didn't see it as feminism belonging to women. It was the movement that started the process of equalizing society. At the time it was because focus was on women's rights, but now we see that men also have their rights severely restricted by societal norms as well. And if I can be a feminist and champion equality for men from withing the ranks labeled feminist, then women should be able to do the same in t…

No, but being being identical to a chicken probably makes me a chicken. This is why it, in my case, has become a semantic issue.

The assange case is far from over. It's going to be interesting to see what happens. I think he'll get off free though. A woman probably has breached a mans trust and gotten pregnant on purpose when she was telling him she was on birthcontrol. At least he doesn't owe her anything if he did. But it would be hard for him to get custody of the child. I never said it was perfect, but things are getting better, and work is needed to make it what it should be.

Sweden is a nation of more or less feminist people. That's what makes it interesting. It is statistically in the top 5 bracket for gender equiality world wide. Something attributed to feminist policy. I'm trying to figure out where feminism ends and MRM starts. Or if there is a place they can be reconciled.

The draft is long gone. You don't have to do it if you don't want to. But if you do they pay for a good vocational education in most cases. I sure didn't do any jailtime, haha. I never said it was pefect. But if it was perfect I wouldn't be here would I?

Be aware that within feminism there is a large ocnflict about these things. Some groups are fighting other groups about the same things the MRM is fighting about. Wouldn't it be better if the groupes with identical interests could allie?

Whenever I've heard this argument be made it's been feminists that say that the courts need to take the men's word as seriously as women's. The problem in Sweden is more that, since it's so hard to be convicted for rape (actual proof is needed), the public will often keep the man in contempt after the trial is over. Sometimes. This makes it very easy for a woman to discredit a man's reputation with just a sentance. How to fix this I don't know however. As long as there are idiots without scruple…

Actually I come from new york. I just spent a lot of time in Sweden growing up. And no, you're wrong. The country did not want man tax. It was a crazy fringe party that suggested incorporating it in its political agenda. Needles to say all of Sweden thought it was so stupid we just assumed it was a joke. They never used it and they have never been voted into parliament. So it's wrong to say that Sweden wanted additional tax for men.
/r/MensRights05/05/11 03:21 AM

This is true, and makes it extra important that more men help influence administrative decisions in politics. Women don't know what it's like to be a man so we shouldn't let them speak for us. You must agree that a lot of men are complacent when it comes to actually getting involved. I'm not talking about politicians, the general populace needs to understand policy better.

As a man, the form I was raised with is synonomous to what is described in the MRM. The ones that are sexist were described as radicals and were scorned as they deserve. What I'm trying to do is make definitions a little more clear. It's a process I fear will take some time. Am I the only person that has hope to integrate positive ideals from both sides and excluse the negtive ones?

This is my point. There is a large constituency of likeminded people that call themselves feminists. Isn't it a waste to alienate them because there are also sexists that call themselves feminists? First of all, try to be civil. Let's act like adults here. It is my belief that some people are more capable than others. This is not defined by their sex, but by their personal agency. If you want to argue that men are better than women because they have invented more things than women you could argue that white people are better than non whites. An I hope you won't do that because it is equally dangerous. And hurts it The MRM.

There are many forms of feminism. The feminists I know in real life Support all of the things I mention and more. Of course I've met my fair share of feminists that are total dingbats that think men should have their balls cut off, but they have been in drastic minority. Just like I've met some Men's Rights advocates that think women are all dumb sluts. I wonder why we don't embrace the theory and get rid of the skewed practice?
/r/MensRights05/05/11 12:55 AM

Don't refer to idiots as dumb sluts. It's sexists and it hurts the cause. If you're really angry go for something like fucking morons, but don't pretend that their inability to drive has anything to do with their sex or who they choose to have sex with. Don't drink and drive. It's unnecessary and dangerous. Be a responsible adult.

Actually, I do study history. And I've taken plenty of classes on this and similar subjects. No the 'founding fathers' were not enlightened thinkers. They were slave-owning opportunists. They were very good at serving their own interests, and extremely hypocritical. Of course what they did at the time was a step in the right direction from the imperialistic European states governance. But it was in no way what we should refer to as enlightened in the twenty-first century. If you're idealizing, f…

You sounds just like a feminist. The reason men are suffering is because men don't actually go out there and stand up for other men. The buck stops here. I do volunteer work for underprivileged kids. Mostly young men that are seen as worthless in the eyes of society. I help them understand that they aren't worthless and that with the right decisions and work they can carve a worthwhile life out of this existence. Get out there instead.

Let me rephrase that for you in a politically correct way: "Most people are idiots. People tend to screw other idiots over because they lack scruples. Don't let anyone take advantage of you and don't take advantage of anyone, and we will all have better world." The problem with a lot of the r/mensright's and r/whatever-opposing-gender-forum is that people are blaming other people. Accept that all people have idiot potential of sizable magnitude.
