I think you might be getting the cart ahead of the horse a bit if he's not wanting to get married yet? I had similar feelings, "Screw this, I don't want a career, I want to be a mom" but then reality hit and I couldn't afford to be a SAHM, especially in this economy. 🤪 Try not to idealize the future.

These guys both sound like losers. Don't lower your standards for them (or anyone).

I know what you mean, I feel like I looked better at 16 too. But we gotta cut ourselves some slack because we were literally kids

TBH, kinda weird that you consider your prime to be before you were even legal. Do you think so lowly of yourself that it's only gonna get worse from here? You're 20

I'm pretty sure 95% of people, even Christians, do it before marriage..so don't feel like a hypocrite/failure if you're not perfect. But good for you for holding that standard for yourself. You can explore physical intimacy with your future partner(s) without going all the way. You also don't have to live with someone before you're married. Our society makes this seem like an insane, impossible, and antiquated practice, but it is possible. Maybe you can try to find someone to date at church or i…

"Protective" means he walks you to your car at night. Not controlling your life while he's a major hypocrite.

Maybe simply ask him how he's doing. See how engaged he is in the conversation. Maybe initiating 90% of the time was too taxing on him?

I'm not sure how this child 1) surprises either of you 2) upsets him ...if birth control is not being used? He's probably internalizing the fact that he's scared he won't be able to provide for an expanding family.

Honestly, I don't think it's rocket science to know if you have chemistry with your partner before marriage. You can tell if you're physically attracted to each other and compatible while still having certain boundaries. More than that, I believe that if you truly love someone enough to marry them, you can work out any of the kinks (no pun intended) that come along with intimacy.

I second modcloth. I really like Gap / Old Navy's clothes.

It's hard to choose because there are so many beautiful rings to choose from, and you only get to pick one! I was a bit starstruck when we went shopping. So much sparkle 😍

How exciting! Picking out a ring is so fun. What about something like this? https://www.etsy.com/listing/578317344/moissanite-engagement-ring-solitaire I also think physically going to a jewelry store is a good thing. You can try on rings to see how they look and feel and learn more about the materials. And some Jewelers have a clearance case or estate jewelry that is reasonably priced.

I'm not saying that a situation like that can't evolve into a relationship. I'm saying that he is using it as an empty promise to get what he wants. "I'll date you if you have sex with me" is creepy.

"He told me that after sex we would have a relationship" I call bullshit. He's saying that to get what he wants.

I think in the "courting/wooing" stage a man should pay, but in an established relationship, it should be about half and half.

You might not want to hear "you're so young," but you're so young, and you shouldn't be worrying about this dude. This relationship is messy. However, I do believe in people's ability to change and better themselves. That doesn't make you obligated to give second chances though.

I'm hoping he has something up his sleeve. It's hard to make sure something is happening without being pushy or spoiling any surprises. It's also easy to get your hopes up with every little thing if you're anticipating a proposal. I don't think you have to beat around the bush with him, considering that you're close enough to share finances already. If I were you, the only thing preventing me from confronting him about it would be fear of spoiling a surprise.

Could it be possible that he has picked out a ring (since you looked at ring styles) and is trying to down play it until he proposes?

The way you do your hair and jewelry can go a long way. And fitted clothes (can still be modest)

Both my brothers and their wives got married straight out of college. (Ages 21-23). Both marriages doing wonderfully. Both waited to cohabitate and the like. My college roommate got married just shy of 21 and they're doing great too. Can "young marriage" be foolish? Sure. But I am a big proponent of it because I'm also opposed to living together, hooking up, etc. Some people want to skip that stuff and settle down young. What's the point of screwing around until you're 30 if that's not what you …
