Women do it all the time. Men should be expected to, also.

You don't have to be dismissive or anything, but make sure not to be overly enthused about it. A simple 'thank you, I appreciate it' should suffice. If he's interested in you, some sort of gift should definitely be expected. And happy early birthday by the way!!

Yup! Part of my personal standards include avoiding Christian men flat-out. If I miss a good one because of it, so be it. I'm just not a big fan of the mythos. That being said, you'll always have to be careful to vet non-religious men rigorously too. There are some messed up spiritual and atheistic guys out there.

Exactly! Those sorts of posts are what kickstarted me on leveling up. I've mostly outgrown them, so I just don't click on them much anymore, but they were invaluable to me. I wouldn't want to deny new users the understanding.

Yuppp! Glad you didn't have to wade through oceans of the sludge to realize it. I despise the propaganda spoon-fed to women about relationships. They really set us up for some major disillusionment

Don't stay for him. You could give up your life and become your brother's caretaker until his last breath and he would never change. Do not hold yourself back, because no matter where you are, or who you become, if the initiative doesn't come from within him, he will gladly stay in his rut forever. It would be totally futile. You can't save him. For your sake, don't go down with him.

You're definitely not reading into it too much, he's trying to lure. Oversharing at two weeks with a subordinate? 🙅🏻‍♀️ You're smart to know not to get involved with co-workers. Whenever you feel that stirring of attraction, remember why. And also, if the idea to try a fling with him crosses your mind, remember that he's the type of guy who jumps ships easily when the going gets rough, as evidenced by his trying to start something with you just because his marriage is rocky (allegedly. Again, th…

Personally, I saw three different people driven to their graves for being nice, polite, self-sacrificing doormats. Drained themselves dry for others, never found the strength to save themselves. After the third one, I decided I wasn't going to be that person. No one in existence is worth the loss of my health and well-being. No one is existence is worth you losing yours.

Oooh I guess I'm sort of glad I never followed some of y'all then? A lot of you constantly drop truth bombs and are witty af, but I always second-guessed precisely because I was afraid it'd be creepy. But it's sketchy that you can't see who's following you, that doesn't make sense to me at all.

I think that makes sense! Your thoughts remind me of this quote in my quote book. I wonder if you'll disagree with the deduction. "When you need to be loved, you take love wherever you can find it. When you are desperate to be loved, feel love, know love, you seek out what you think love should look like. When you find love, or what you think love is, you will lie, kill, and steal to keep it. But learning about real love comes from within. It cannot be given. It cannot be taken away. It grows fr…

This this this! I find that this applies outside of relationships also, IMO. HVM seem to be aware of the dangers and considerations women face on the daily. If a man gets offended or upset when you're guarded when he approaches you in a solitary parking lot, when you ask to meet in a more public place for a date, or when you don't take that open drink he offered you, that should sound some sirens in your head! Don't be afraid to offend someone. Keep your standards enforced always. If they take i…

I was as taken aback. They're actually, genuinely blind to reality. They can't conceptualize anything aside from their own viewpoint, and it's baffling.

Late reply, but yea you're right! Unfortunately I think most of their songs are 😶 but when they did do good, they did very well! Hush Hush has the general sentiment of regretting having changed for a man and dumping him after realizing she's better off without him. Whatcha Think About That is pretty much #KickHimOut2020. It helps that Missy Elliot was on that track too

I think you're right it's about the overall effect. Whatever it is, it sucks. I have a petite and young-looking friend, and she's told me that people (men, mostly) have outright physically grabbed her and lifted her up or petted her, acquaintances and strangers both. Mind boggling.

My dad would purposely tell my mom never to do my hair in pigtails or space buns. He's an LVM and a wh*re--he knew how other men like him thought. 'Til this day I don't do those hairstyles.

Somehow reminds me of this quote from Criminal Minds: "Orson Welles said all the birds that belong to our sex have prettier feathers, because males have got to try to justify their existence. We spend all our time screaming, 'look at me! Look at me! Mommy, mommy. Look at me.'" Men really aren't worth much. Once I learned this from my biology and evolutionary courses, their opinions stopped holding any sort of sway over me.

I love that you use 'sniffing' in reference to vetting them lol. Thanks for this post! This was a fun read. I feel pretty capable at discerning LVM behavior, but it's rare to get explicit details on some HVM characteristics.

It seems to happen in waves. I stopped browsing here for a while because I didn't like the sort of pickme comments and threads popping up, then it seemed to die back a bit. Looks like it's back up again. It makes me nervous for the newbies, especially if they haven't read any of the recommended readings. You have to really temper what you read with your own judgment. But I guess I'm not surprised that people would flock here to try to feed women more bullshit

I get the same feeling from a lot of men if I have to converse anymore than briefly with them. Feels like I end up talking at them instead of to them if it goes on for longer. You can see it in their eyes and their body language too. It's a really weird feeling. If I want guaranteed stimulating conversation I have to hit up female friends and coworkers 🤷‍♀️

Men like this can easily make us feel like we can't trust anymore. It sounds like you're on guard, and rightfully so. I'm so sorry you ever came across that sicko. No one should ever have to deal with someone like that. Someone already recommended the book The Gift of Fear, I add my vote to that. It's the book I credit for helping me learn to distinguish my intuition from my 'normal' anxiety and for helping trust it unconditionally. I don't know if men with his presumable level of disorder are p…

I know we can't share personal details, so all I can think to say is this. You said he gaslighted you, and that's a severe thing. You're right that he's not high value, because HVM in no way are playing psychological or manipulative games like that. That's just a shitty person through and through. I believe you're also right that it's unusual for men to play the long con. In my limited experience I've seen that mostly with people on the more intense side of the personality disorder spectrum. Did…

Lol little elf men 😂 You're right and you should say it. I don't know why people take issue with your wording, I've seen the way short men behave when they don't get the women they feel entitled to. They don't get my pity. They're usually so hung up and embittered about their height that it ruins whatever they might have had to offer, even with a woman who didn't mind their stature to begin with. You do you, sis!

"It’s better for you to fail to give someone the benefit of the doubt early on and be wrong than to get yourself stuck in yet another trauma spiral." Oh, this. I wish I'd had someone telling me this since I was a kid. I wish every girl would hear some rendition of this. It goes against my conditioning, but I know that it's true.

My father constantly threatens me with the notion that I'll feel oh so awful when he dies for not forgiving all the abuse he put my family through. I don't buy it. It's really reassuring to hear that all you felt was relief, that's all I could imagine feeling, too.

Was he making the move/transition before he met you? It seems odd to me to try to date during a time that's obviously hectic and involves uprooting yourself. That hints to me that he might not value the people he's seeing much during that time frame. I think you're right to be irritated that there was nothing along the lines of an apology in his text, also. I'm not sure about you, but if I have to cancel on just an acquaintance same-day like that, I am always sorry and express as much because I …

Sorry for the late reply! And that's sweet of you, thanks! I'm glad you've got friends to talk to about this insecurity. Don't be too hard on yourself for bringing it up often, I think that just means it's a belief that's really taken root in your mind. It bothers you, and it always takes time to work those out. Every time you catch yourself thinking it, try to list off the reasons these fantastic ladies have stated that resonate with you. Don't beat yourself up for not getting over it quick. In…

If anything I think you're ahead of the game. Feel like a lot of women would have avoided more heartache/dissatisfaction/wasting their time had they known the FDS mindset before becoming sexually active. I'm a newbie so obviously take my thoughts with a grain of salt, but from what I've taken in so far from FDS is that being HV doesn't have to do with the experience you have so much as understanding your worth and building yourself up as an independent woman, and then reinforcing those standards…

Do you feel the same way if the woman in question weren't you, but a female friend, a sister, a coworker? Do you think they should feel guilty, selfish, for asking for what they want and having standards? What makes you any different, or less worthy? We're all just people. If you could speak to a younger you, would you tell her the same negative patterns you're thinking to yourself right now? I would hope not. At what point did you become undeserving of having your needs met? The sole fact that …

The fucking audacity. Who the fuck even thinks let alone says something like this to a person?? I'm so glad you're cutting this bastard out of your life. He has nothing you need. And op, regardless of your appearance or what you think of yourself, you 120% deserve better than to be treated like this, on the sole basis that you're a human being, an entire person who has intrinsic worth by virtue of existing. Work on believing that, because it's true. Congratulations on blocking this shit stain.

They're seriously self-absorbed. I see this a lot with pseudo-intellectual guys especially. Was at a cafe the other day where a couple two tables ahead of me were on a date. The guy would just not shut up. He kept prattling on about how unique he was for deeply relating to country music and barely let the woman get a word in edgewise. Never asked her questions. The two times she tried to add her own thoughts he either looked at his phone and flat out did not answer (wtf?) or told her she's wrong…
