I am at work on a break, but I know for sure I've read articles where women pull the whole "he became my provider for me and my children, a long term partner, now that he has left I cannot support myself" line, and the courts throw the liability at the guy. Its not very common, but it has happened. I mean, the courts expect you to support a child that isn't even yours, simply because your wife had an affair on you, even though blood tests support that the child isn't yours.

This whole college degree student loan bubble bullshit makes me feel so good about my decision for dropping out of college. What a waste that would have been for me. I make like 2-4x what my college graduate friends when I was like 23 (30 now). Yet they have a shitload of loans still.

This picture just assumes so many things, its stupid. Each marriage and relationship are completely different in terms what each partner brings to the table. My ex-wife is a thousand times better off since she married me. She got free health insurance, a roof over her head, food, luxury vacations, the list goes on and on. Oh by the way, did I mention she didn't have to work at all to achieve all this? I had to. Which is fine, I wanted to provide for her because I loved her.

Child support stories really make me want to get a vasectomy. Then I remembered you can be required to pay child support for kids that aren't even biologically yours. I say fuck child support, its more like deadbeat mother support 90% of the time.

Here in San Diego there are several law firms that cater to men who want to keep custody of their children. They even advertise it with signs like this. Sad you need a special attorney to keep your children in your life. In California divorce seems so one sided. The woman wants to keep the kids, only because they are a cash cow, not because they actually love them.

I really never considered myself to be in one of those relationships in the ten years I was married, but I realized at the end of the marriage I secretly was trapped in one all those years. Unfortunately we have separated, I still support her, hopefully one day I will feel free again, but in the meantime, I don't take any shit from her. I do what I want, this house is mine, the money I make to pay for it is mine and I fucking worked my ass off to be where I am in this life, not her.

I just got separated. From the words of my legal person "she has half your pension now,you have to work five extra years to make up what she took" god its fucking bullshit. What hurts me emotionally the most is that all those ten years of working my ass off, working hours and hours of overtime to further me and her, so our retirement would be bigger, now half of its all gone. It should be short term in the sense as unemployment. You should be actively looking for a job and means to support yourself and show proof. It also shouldn't last more than one or two years. Also if you are receiving child support, by no hell should you ALSO receive alimony.

I don't think you should knock people who want to be parents, that is a personal life choice. Second, child support is a good thing, prevents our system from being drained by single parents. The problem with child support is how its calculated, how its given (people should have to show recipes) and how custody is awarded.

That's the thing, I think the home and retirement should be fucking hands off. I can understand the bank account, savings etc. But the retirement was earned by the breadwinner, same with the home. If you want alimony, there is no fucking way she should end up with even half of MY HOME or my retirement. She should move out and find her own place with my alimony and that retirement is FOR ME and someone who I want to retire with. She didn't earn it.

As someone who is currently going through divorce and will most likely be paying huge ass alimony payments, I do think it should exist, but not for as long as it does and how much it is. It should also depend on how the marriage ended and if children are involved. I was married for ten years, therefore I have to split up all my assets, my retirement plan, and pay her for five years.
