It’s a little bit of a unique situation with him getting back on his feet and I think he is sharing his excitement that his new job is working out and is allowing him to share that joy with you celebrate your birthday. Your feelings are completely valid, and my recommendation would be to just acknowledge but gently change the subject when finances + birthday come up. You can share the details of your past experiences after your birthday as passed. If you don’t want to discuss your birthday plans…

Ahh. It might just be an exercise in picking your battles. Doesn’t help in the hard moments but just part of it I suppose. I wish I had better advice 🫶

I found my community to discuss these topics after having children in SAHM play groups (I live in Florida) and honestly even through other friendships as well. Lots of trad folks of all stripes here. Come on down the Southeast US! Lol

Serious question and I mean this kindly, how is he in other areas of life? Is he organized with finances, his work, planning things he’s interested in, etc? Also, even though it’s been years, how often is he actually doing childcare? It sounds like day 1 all the time. Regardless that is super frustrating. Deep breath!!!! Try to save it for the stuff that matters (safety, etc) and less on preferences. I hope as your children get bigger he’ll be better able to jive with older kiddos who are more a…

Do you have any trusted male friends/family in your life with work experience for guidance?

I met mine on Tinder 🤷🏻‍♀️ and went out with a number of other quality dudes, but I was living in a town with a large university. This was also 10 years ago when I was in my late 20s. The upside of online dating is you can somewhat vet from home with minimal buy in. You can tell pretty quick from pics and texting conversation what their intentions are and if there’s chemistry/attraction. I can also be shy, so it helped developing a rapport before meeting in real life. You don’t have much to lose…

It ebbs and flows with life - moves and job changes, kids arriving and growing up, etc etc. I occasionally just simply ask my husband in a casual way: what do you need? Someone it’s more time together, sometimes he needs some time alone, more attention to certain things, sometimes all is well. Every season I do a little wardrobe review and refresh to see what’s still stylish and what needs replacing/updating, etc. When I start being cagey, low libido/energy/being lazy, or whatever, usually it’s …

Valid point. I’m merely narrating my own experience that my dating options in my late 20s/early 30s were better than in my early 20s, so for me, it did not narrow, quite the opposite actually. My maturity and life experience made me a standout among the younger 20s crowd for the type of man I wanted and I’m hoping the same for OP.

It doesn’t narrow. A lot of men with a provider mindset are (sometimes) finishing up grad/law/med school or finally in a spot with their trade/business to find a wife and start a family in their 30s. I met my husband at 30 and he had finished law school and was in practice for a couple of years. High achieving men tend to enjoy someone who they can relate to intellectually and have lived life a bit (traveled, had a ton of fun, was still chaste). We are very traditional in our family structure, a…

I am also highly educated in STEM and am a mostly SAHM (I work one day a week for fun in my field). I get some guff about not working more, but like you said, I don’t have to and I don’t want to, so why not? My husband’s salary has two commas, so I definitely can’t ever do 50/50 and obviously our lifestyle is comfortable. People will always comment no matter what you do. Ignore them. It’s rude for people to give unsolicited commentary on personal life choices like how you structure your relation…

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
