He expects her to save all her money for the future kids for some years. So they should live on his money then. Imagine how controlling he'll be.

He doesn't lack ambition, his ambition is to use you as his incubator/ATM machine.

This! I've never liked my family name and it's my abusive father's name, and frankly at many points in my life I wanted nothing to do with him at all. So if I ever marry and the dude's name not hideous I'll take it. Seems like the easiest way to change your name without freaking out your family.

Yeah, I was attracted to older musicians when growing up. Just like many teen girls. Doesn't mean I'd date Mr Dadbod next door lol. Or many of those musicians, I met a few in person and realized how old they actually look up close.

Oh. This reminds me of a friend who threw a fit because a guy at her party was paying more attention to me instead of her. Mind you, she didn't even like him. Neither did I tbh. But she wanted to be the center of everyone's attention so she was willing to attack me, her then closest friend, because of a mere acquaintance she wasn't even into 🤷🏻‍♀️ That's when I realized that travelling or partying with her wouldn't be an option, she'd just get jealous every time someone would speak to me.

Maybe not literally hate men but holy hell, when you act hot and cold (even unintentionally) they just swarm like flies. And when you act nice they don't give a damn. I don't get it.

Oh God this worries me. The fact that she goes to Reddit to even ask this... This is your house and it must become your daughter's house later. Throw that gold digging trash away and let your kid have her dream life

I didn't mean specifically the romance genre, more like the writer's intent. Edward is written as a heartthrob so all the terrible shit he does is glossed over both in the story and by the fans. Humbert Humbert is written as a pervert and the terrible shit he does is the point of the entire book, and people who sympathize with him are (at least I really hope so) a minority. Basically I divide fictional abuse in three categories: Abuse not presented as such - it normalizes shitty behavior and pre…

I don't know if you can put Lolita there with the rest of them. It wasn't written as a romance novel, it's not supposed to be seen in a positive light, it's not targeted at young women as a story to aspire to. Same with Dorian Grey. These are stories with protagonists who are objectively bad people and we're supposed to see them that way. We're not even supposed to have sympathy for them like, let's say, for Walter White in the beginning.

If he's lying to you/hiding something from you on the first date just imagine what he'd be like in an actual relationship.

I've noticed this with some women I know, myself included, who crush on MUCH older men when they're young but end up with partners their own age once they get over trauma/build their own life.

Honestly this storyline absolutely ruins both Jeff and Annie for me. Jeff is supposed to be an asshole in the first season who gradually becomes a better person thanks to his friends, but once they started to push this creepy storyline I realized I actually liked S1 Jeff better. At least he chased after women who challenged him, not a vulnerable 18 y.o. And Annie gets frozen in a state of being a lovestruck teenager well into her twenties. Her only character development until the very last episo…

Most HVM I know are actually financially stable and married before they turn 30. Why does he think young women flock to balding Peter Pans who are just about to "make it" in their forties? Here's a secret, dude: many women are more than ready to commit way before they're 35. Just not to you or the likes of you.

Actresses in their twenties often play teens because they have more acting experience, more starpower, and are just easier to work with than actual teens. I don't think that's the problem. The problem is that the show explicitly states Annie is 18 in the first season and presents her in a very innocent/schoolgirly way, sometimes excessively so (like... I wasn't like that at 18, neither were my friends), and then makes her the object of desire for a thirty-something man who is shown as manipulati…

I liked it a lot too but there are many things about the show's treatment of female characters that just make me go bleh. Annie is basically an anime sexy schoolgirl in human form. The fan community can be quite toxic too. I find it funny Harmon said Britta is his favorite character. The writers tried to annihilate her with such ferocity it felt personal.

I've only met two women whose apartments looked like this in my entire lifetime. And I've never met a woman who'd wear such an outfit. It looks like she's changed into shorts after coming home but she didn't change her white high-neck blouse before pouring herself a drink? Makes no sense.

Honestly I agree. She's successful and popular and of all people she could have dated she picked a guy who is known for his very questionable views and has proven himself to be a dick many times. If it was a story of a no-name woman everyone here would call her "pickmeisha" for having a child with a man whose abusive behavior towards his exes (and people in general, let's face it) is so well known. I don't see her as a victim, I see her as an enabler.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
