1	Update: I get no respect at work Another good point: yes, sometimes I can be awkward, and yes, that might cause ppl to "misunderestimate" me, they expect me to act(and react) a certain way(IT nerd dude), but I carry myself like I'm the smartest man in any room; i've got a sharp tongue and use it when I'm provoked, just because I put on a ton of weight over the past few years doesn't mean I've lost my pride and my refusal to take shit from anybody.	/r/askTRP	11/03/16 06:59 AM
1	Update: I get no respect at work I've been nothing but polite and cordial with him. I think he saw me, saw weakness(rumpled clothes, unshaven, overweight, etc) and decided I'd be the entertainment for the office. When I started dishing the jokes back, he took that as a challenge, as one day after we went back and forth he says: "you can't beat me man". 1	Update: I get no respect at work Generally speaking, I am very polite and very courteous, sometimes to a fault. I've only acted condescending when provoked with equally condescending remarks. For example, whenever we'd get into an argument about a certain procedure/protocol, I would suggest a better way, they would talk shit about my idea and how "you don't make the rules" and then I would say something like: "have you run a company? managed a group of people? 2	Update: I get no respect at work I can easily crush him mano y mano; but if I do step to him( nose to nose), I will be seen as the aggressor; I'm significantly larger(6'2 to his 5'7) and stronger. I think he has Napoleon complex, and his fragile ego might make him "lash out" if I get in his face and he'll claim self-defense. When 2 employees fight, both are fired. 2	Update: I get no respect at work Very good point, and I like how you phrased it: "life blood". Indeed it is. There are however some cons/negatives associated with going the HR route: i will be perceived as a "problem" employee. I've already been in 2 verbal confrontation with 2 female coworkers which didn't escalate, but still. He can easily galvanise the other staff to support him in a "He said-he said" situation. 1	Update: I get no respect at work I don't react helplessly;I tried ignoring him and also used "agree and amplify", and it only emboldened him. Initially, he would merely lob "jokes" at my expense; I laughed it off. He graduated to more direct insulting "jokes" and from there disrespectful profanity which he thinks makes him look tough and strong in front of the women.
