Update: I get no respect at workThank you for the well-thought out, well-written reply. I was nodding along in agreement with all of it; as much as I want to satisfy my pride, and as hard as it is to "keep quiet", I know that ignoring is the best policy, mainly because this my livelihood, my life blood, and I cannot afford to lose it to a fool who has nothing to lose. | /r/askTRP | 11/03/16 07:03 AM
Update: I get no respect at workAnother good point: yes, sometimes I can be awkward, and yes, that might cause ppl to "misunderestimate" me, they expect me to act(and react) a certain way(IT nerd dude), but I carry myself like I'm the smartest man in any room; i've got a sharp tongue and use it when I'm provoked, just because I put on a ton of weight over the past few years doesn't mean I've lost my pride and my refusal to take shit from anybody. | /r/askTRP | 11/03/16 06:59 AM
Update: I get no respect at workI've been nothing but polite and cordial with him. I think he saw me, saw weakness(rumpled clothes, unshaven, overweight, etc) and decided I'd be the entertainment for the office. When I started dishing the jokes back, he took that as a challenge, as one day after we went back and forth he says: "you can't beat me man". And that's when he started with the profanity( "fuck you") | /r/askTRP | 11/03/16 06:51 AM
Update: I get no respect at workGenerally speaking, I am very polite and very courteous, sometimes to a fault. I've only acted condescending when provoked with equally condescending remarks. For example, whenever we'd get into an argument about a certain procedure/protocol, I would suggest a better way, they would talk shit about my idea and how "you don't make the rules" and then I would say something like: "have you run a company? managed a group of people? No? Oh. Well, I have" or I would poke fun at their unquestioning her… | /r/askTRP | 11/03/16 06:40 AM
Update: I get no respect at workI can easily crush him mano y mano; but if I do step to him( nose to nose), I will be seen as the aggressor; I'm significantly larger(6'2 to his 5'7) and stronger. I think he has Napoleon complex, and his fragile ego might make him "lash out" if I get in his face and he'll claim self-defense. When 2 employees fight, both are fired. I have a family and can't afford to take that risk. | /r/askTRP | 11/03/16 06:31 AM
Update: I get no respect at workVery good point, and I like how you phrased it: "life blood". Indeed it is. There are however some cons/negatives associated with going the HR route: i will be perceived as a "problem" employee. I've already been in 2 verbal confrontation with 2 female coworkers which didn't escalate, but still. He can easily galvanise the other staff to support him in a "He said-he said" situation. He's been here almost a decade, i've been here for 6 months. All in all, he has less to lose HR positives: I have … | /r/askTRP | 11/03/16 06:22 AM
Update: I get no respect at workSo if I stood over you and cussed you at while you were at work and/or made a reference to your mother's genitalia...........you would just ignore me, right? Have some self-respect and think before you write. IDGAF does not mean to become a doormat or a punching bag. | /r/askTRP | 10/03/16 11:11 PM
Update: I get no respect at workI don't react helplessly;I tried ignoring him and also used "agree and amplify", and it only emboldened him. Initially, he would merely lob "jokes" at my expense; I laughed it off. He graduated to more direct insulting "jokes" and from there disrespectful profanity which he thinks makes him look tough and strong in front of the women. With anybody else, he is a paragon of professional politeness(yes sir, no ma'am). But he thinks he can curse at me, AT WORK, in front of the entire staff.....and g… | /r/askTRP | 10/03/16 11:08 PM
Update: I get no respect at workyes, i live in a one-person consent state, meaning i can audio-record any conversation(as long as I am in the conversation) and it would be admissible evidence in any legal(or HR) proceedings. | /r/askTRP | 10/03/16 10:59 PM
