Just because pop music is formulaic and self-popularizing does not make it bad. However, because the artist is often not the writer, it usually doesn’t make for very meaningful music. Additionally, because money is prioritized over the quality of the music, its not surprising that pop music is more likely to be mediocre than your average independent artist. Theres a reason why your comment is a stereotypical opinion.

Its not an odd way of looking at it, its the truthful way of looking at it. If consumers popularized music for example, then why do record companies illegally bribe radio stations to play their music? People are spoon-fed formulaic media.
