If I had to guess, some lawmaker or other important person's son got arrested/convicted of statutorially raping his girlfriend, so the lawmaker(s) went on a crusade to protect their sons from impractical rape laws. I think it's practical to make the age of consent 16 as long as the partner is within 10 years of them; it's just weird that the age of consent is 18 for males in Utah.

Definitely not the right sub for this. You should probably stay off this sub until you get yourself sorted enough that you can take sympathy on a woman whose husband cheated on her, gave her an STD and is now kicking her and the 4 kids they have together out. I agree with you and I would even go a bit further. I would argue that our society is not wholly responsible for ensuring the health of our citizens. If someone is injured by accident or by another, then I believe that they deserve medical attention. However, if people neglect to look after their health and then (in old age) become nothing but a leech, I am not in favor of society paying to prolong their life as long as possible.
