I think there is no scientific connection, but if it's an addiction, conquering that addiction can make it feel like an accomplishment. Just like with food, alcohol and drugs. If it gives you a reward, you can get addicted to that feeling. If eating allot (binge eating) makes you fat, conquering that will make you feel good and lose some weight. Just like fapping.
