The citation reads : Gross, M.N., & Graham-Berman, S.A. (2006). Gender, categories, and science-as-usual: A critical review of gender and PTSD. Violence Against Women, 12 (4), 393-406. I plan to take it up with the professor. Thanks for the sources.

"When a couple decides to split, even husbands have the right to seek spousal support or what's referred to as 'manimony.'" I think it's telling that this even need be said. Also "manimony" is terrible.

I gained something from reading that.

I think this video does exactly what it decries. It argues that net neutrality will "force conservatives to shut up online." This is reductionist, and I don't think it's relevant here.

In some cultures, circumcision corresponds a rite of passage, marking the transition from boyhood into manhood, or his first recitation of the Quran.

I hope you take this to your professor, and if they refuse to acknowledge it, to the Dean. There is no room in academia for unsourced, ambiguous, and erroneous information.

They said 'be a man,' but no one could tell me what that was.

Hey, since no one else has offered yet, you can tell me all about that shit. I've felt exactly like you, why should anyone care, I'm a young, healthy and smart white man. I shouldn't have anything to complain about. But I did. A lot. I'm sure I've got some I can trade. Threw up on a girl during sex once, If you want a funny one. Feel free to message me.

You know what did it for me? Well, first I told an anonymous forum that I thought I might be depressed. Then I told my girlfriend, months latet and after i reflexively started freezing up because I was begining to physically express my emotions, she took my hands and told me that, "you can't do it all alone." No one can take care of everything, shoulder themselves and others, and solve all of their own problems. Protect themselves and others, and never be weak. Then I realized that if I had a li…

Thanks! I try not to pay credence to hardliners anywhere, and I'd like to think I can tell when something's getting dogmatic and zealous. Cheers.

I won't. Nor will I turn vitriolic and reactionary. Thanks, friend.

The words have been redefined in some (sometimes large) circles. It's where "reverse sexism" comes from. It's no longer about being discriminatory, it's about benefiting from discrimination. "Privilage," is seen therefore, as an exclusively male, exclusively white, exclusively straight thing, and you are guilty if you are one of the above (as well as others).

Yeah, the ol' no Isreal without Hitler thing. But it's obvious that kind of helps no one.

I agree completely, and that is why I try to never frame arguments in a "women are like this," way. Becauses it's not true. The author, however, shows no such compunction, and goes out of her way to make the argument that if you speak up and say that you aren't a mysogynist, then you are a mysogynist.

I just read another guy on here talking about people creating a safe space by slapping him in the face. When words can be violence, violence is an appropriate response to words, apparently.

In this case it was a mixture of "you don't have a horse in this race," and "You're ruining it for everyone else." Both of which were nonsense. It puts the lie to the lips that spoke it, but only if you're prepared to listen.

You're right. Next time. Or maybe we should all leave a dissenting comment in clear and polite language, and never look back.

I'm going to avoid people like this author reasonably, and continue to love the compassionate, understanding and supportive women in my life, like those that came to my defense against a false rape allegation, and look for and embrace any others that I meet.

Well said. If grown men shouldn't be talking about the lack of support for their mental health and record rates of suicide, then I don't know who can. Hardly anyone else is.

Any time but this one, apparently. Though keep in mind, this comes from people who believe sexism directed at men is literally impossible.

That exact thing happened to me yesterday, being told to shut up about it, because I am a white male. It brought me here. Edit: and I completely agree. I think this kind of thing being seen as ligitimate goes a long way in perpetuating the idea that we don't have to be polite and respect other's right to a perspective, instead it's respectable to mock and ridicule arguments. I see it on both sides, though not as much here, I'm noticing. It is here, to be clear.

Consent is binary and tied to gender, then? Assuming it is female and female, is consent is not required?

It really gets to me how these things are never presented in respectful terms. I gues it's just the blog equivilent of yelling your arguments at people, but even the comic was condescending and diminuant.

Yeah, I've had to reconsider how a few of my friends think, about me and the world as a result of this. Instead of getting bent out of shape, or trying to have a conversation about it and getting told not to "daddy" all over the conversation, I'm just going to moderate who I involve myself with.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
