Since you're currently married you can do anything with your finances such as selling all of your stock or moving money. You need to be very careful once you file for divorce everything will be locked down. You should figure out how to protect yourself without leaving any clues.....

I went down the mediation route. It was a whole lot cheaper than hiring attorneys. I talked to three separate attorneys. Where I live you're able to set up calls with attorneys in 30 minute increments for about a hundred bucks to 150 bucks. The first call I just asked how the divorce process worked by the time the second call I had with an attorney I had a list of questions and by the third call I had it dialed down. From my perspective if you can get 50% of everything you're doing really well.

I use the mediator during the divorce process. Cost me less than 2 grand. The lady was retired attorney and helped my oh so charming and wonderful ex-wife understand that all the kids are over 18 and she doesn't get spousal support. Where I live a divorce with attorneys cost about $130 grand and I was not willing to pay that.

I've been married 28 years. Asked the wife for a divorce- told her half of everything is fine. We show up to our first mediation meeting she wants half of everything..... plus a million dollars. Not sure where the addition came from but spurned women these days is absolutely freaking crazy.

You should make sure she does not have access to any retirement accounts, CDs, bank accounts, checking accounts, credit card accounts. In some cases the spouse will go absolutely nuts and try to punish you by removing cash or spending an incredible amount of money.
