Oh man...I've been following FDS for years, but recently met a guy and ended up ignoring some red flags. The result was exactly what you would predict.

A guy not having any social media. He talked about how he likes to live his life in the moment and not worry about how it looks on social media, but this was his way of controlling the information that is out in the world about him. If you google him there's minimal information about his career, but no way to see who his friends are/ who he hangs out with etc. I realized this is how he compartmentalizes his life and keeps everyone from finding out how much of a shithead he really is.

You verbalized exactly how I have felt in the past. Very well put. Thank you!

So proud of you for taking care of yourself after going through something horrific like this. You are more than enough, and I hope that one day soon you will no longer question that.

Wow, So glad this woman found out before the wedding! I was in this exact scenario except I was married to the loser. I'm still reeling from my experience with my narcissistic, cheating ex and knowing that and knowing that others have gone through similar experience make me feel a little less alone. And I am so glad that this sub understands how deeply scarring such NVMs can be to women, unlike all the pickmeishas who couldn't understand why my ex's actions made me question everything about his …

This is spot on in how I ended up with my ex. Thought we were equals but he got such an ego boost once he started growing in his career, and was the biggest NVM. And just like that he chewed me up and spat me out without a care in the world.

100% agree with this. My ex came from a toxic household, and in the beginning he seemed to be a HVM who overcame his unfortunate family situation. However, he turned out to have all the worst traits of both his parents. He did everything in our relationship that his NVM dad did to his mom, everything he always claimed made him hate his dad and he would never do. And he was always played the victim. His manipulations and guilt kept me in the relationship way longer than I ever should have. I shou…

Sometimes it's hard to see the situation clearly when you are in the midst of it. I was with a LVM for a long time and was completely blind to all his shortcomings. I thought everything was great and we had a normal relationship, until the proof was literally in my face and I could not ignore it. I am so thankful that I stumbled upon this community since then so I can learn the difference between a LVM and HVM, and avoid a similar situation in the future. Hopefully, the woman you know has good p…

OMG I went through something similar, including the secret engagement with my ex....unfortunately I ended up marrying him and then he proceeded to cheat on me. I ignored all the glaring red flags because lOvE and ended up feeling like the biggest clownessa in the world. You dodged a HUGE bullet! And good on you for recognizing your worth and leaving that loser- it couldn't have been easy.

You're describing my ex! Always playing the victim and manipulating using pity and guilt. He was complete trash and almost completely ruined my self esteem. I wish I knew about psychological and emotional abuse, because it is just as damaging as physical abuse.

It can go either way. I was with a guy who claimed he did not have any social media because he was a private person. Eventually, I found out it was his way of keeping everything about himself secretive. He moved numerous times, and without social media the only connections I knew from his life were people he chose to tell me about. Once we were done I noticed he had a habit of introducing girls he met to his "friends" but the "friends" were people he just befriended who had no connection to his …
