We are similar situations man. Just wanted to say I feel ya. My STBX has dragged this out past a year, courts are slow as hell. Bleeding the last of my money and credit cards. Gonna lose this house to foreclosure if it doesn't sell quick, and 400K in equity will be gone, all because she thinks the house should be given to her by the court. Just know you aren't alone.

What do you mean by "you put in a clause"? Did you negotiate this with her? Clearly you can't just decide for yourself to do this.

I'm an independent contractor in a live events related industry. So after the pandemic, I had the best year ever (2022), impossibly busy, as everyone wanted to get together again. Unfortunately, that year is what my earnings are based on, regardless of the fact that I'll likely never match it again. I have no way to prove otherwise though, and the court just uses their formula.

Alimony is not tax deductible at state or federal levels This is the sharpest knife of all. She isn't taxed on the money as income. WTF?

My wife is asking for $3500/month in spousal support (no children), and might likely get it due to arbitrary state law. I make about 5K/month. I've been begging her to help me by getting a job for 12 years now. You can guess my (your potential) emotional response.

Hey man, I have no idea what to tell you, but only because I am in exactly the same situation. (Except it's my name on the mortgage, and I have no desire to stay in this money pit and she won't sell.) Have you spoken to a lawyer at all? Even to get advice on how to file? (I have not, but after reading some of these comments, I am inquiring tomorrow). I'm curious as well, if this is the only really big asset between you two, whether a judge will force or expedite a sale or buyout. Surely a judge …

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
