Why wait? I’m worried for you. She can still ask for that kind of alimony even if you don’t last the solid 10 years. Expect that kind of fuckery in the divorce if staying in the marriage for extra alimony was truly her and her lawyer’s line of thinking. Just because someone isn’t legally entitled, doesn’t mean they can’t try and include it in the process. Talk to your lawyer and confirm what you should do—I don’t believe he’ll be telling you to wait until the holidays are over.

Good for you, man. “Not good for our son”. How does she know that? That’s supposed to be your money too and also you will inevitably spend that money on the wellbeing of your son. That money can go toward his education or his own house one day because you’ve been able to provide for him and yourself (and her!). Obviously she wasn’t able to handle her money that well and why would it make sense for her to have more? Also, like you said, the accountability on mom might also do your son well.

I don’t think anyone will tell you that it’s a good idea to cope with any mental/psychological problem using drugs. Self medication is not widely accepted. Interesting that your ex threw out your drugs and said that a parent shouldn’t have it. Almost like maybe she’s willing to overlook that... I see possibility for a reasonable person here!
