Everything I've heard from men of your mindset has sounded like one big "Go fuck yourself". I'm trying to learn something, which is more than you can say. Good luck changing anything when you actively alienate half of the fucking population.

Accusing women of intentionally doing and perpetuating all of these things is the same as extreme feminists accusing men of intentionally and systematically raping us, committing violence against us, and making us into baby machines. It's not fair, and it's not true. What IS true is that women are still blamed for being raped because of what they wear, their sexual history, and for being anything other than a perfect virgin. Women as a whole earn less than men, nevermind young entrepreneurs. And…

Sorry, but doesn't "female" birth control prevent children for both men and women? It's optional for men to use birth control, as they'll never become pregnant. Women have no choice but to prevent conceiving when being sexually active, because if they don't, one of three things will happen: 1. They will carry a child to term, changing their life forever. 2. They will make a very difficult personal decision to terminate the pregnancy, at great personal expense. Or 3., They will die in childbirth,…

Responding to this thread as a whole: First, of all, what the fuck? These are actual human lives we're discussing. Not two separate species of creatures. Men and women should never have to need one another, they share the common experience of being animals of higher intelligence. Their needs and wants are not at odds with one another. So why even discuss the necessity of one gender or the other? Ugh.

Yes, really. You're all pointing out examples of extreme feminism, which is like saying all Muslims want to blow America off the face of the earth. Again, LOOK at the feminist communities here on Reddit and sites like Jezebel and Feministing. Where is anyone campaigning against men's rights? Edit: I've read the links in the post, though most were to dead WayBack Machine URLs. In some instances, though not all, the institutions against the move for equality were indeed feminist institutions. I kn…

This is what I've been hearing, but I don't see a single post in /r/feminism or related subreddits demanding any of these things, especially at the expense of men. Women should earn for themselves. And many of us do our damnedest to; I'm lucky to have a great career that I worked hard for. Who's asking for more pay for less work? I absolutely believe paid paternity leave should be offered by all companies that also offer paid maternity leave. We were offended by Santorum saying we don't belong o…

Contemporary feminists simply define themselves as being advocates of womens' health and rights. I still don't comprehend how this is at odds with mens' or anyone elses' rights.

Thanks so much for posting this. I'm one of the said self proclaimed feminists who has lurked on MRA for ages and seen just a tidal wave of slander without much explanation. Could someone please, in the most objective way possible, explain why MRAs are so passionately against feminism, and what feminist ideals in particular are actively working against men's rights? Ones that are actually established by contemporary feminist communities, and not just products of society in general.

It's not about you, dude. If it has a chance at enabling someone to get the help they need, it should be there.

What exactly do you think it is that women want? I'm severely confused and alarmed.

I've heard/seen this several times, all from MRAs. If you look, feminists don't center their topics of conversation on patriarchy- we talk about current and relevant issues that face women. We don't have the time or energy to trump up allegations of men trying to systematically oppress women, because the way we are each oppressed- both men and women- are subtle and often indirect. It's a mindset that I genuinely believe we can both adopt.

I'm frustrated with the lack of cooperation between feminists and MRAs. There is no reason they can't promote equal power and responsibility between genders. But I keep seeing each take a swipe at one another. It's disheartening.

I'm sorry for not choosing my words more carefully. I was saying that an intoxicated woman could hypothetically be physically and mentally incapable of making a decision at all, NOT that she could make that decision and then retract it later. I completely agree with you. Also, I was careful to use gender-neutral language except where indicating that when (in court) women recall being drunk, their testimony is sometimes disregarded. So why are you attacking me over that?

I'm not talking about a drunk one night stand. Some people purposely intoxicate others to physically/mentally impair them for rape. Usually if a woman was intoxicated, they do not get the benefit of the doubt, regardless of the evidence that they were taken advantage of.

Alright, fair enough. Sorry for not being super serial. Neither side had anything of substance to gain from either raping or persecuting a rapist. Yes, some women do falsely persecute. Just like some men rape. No one knows what actually happened, so I concede. I'm disappointed to the core that I was downvoted 19 times for giving examples of victim blaming in rape trials. I'm obviously not among friends, but I thought I'd at least get some acknowledgement. Oh well.

Unfortunately, society defines women as either virgins or prostitutes. We're generally not allowed to be anything in between. You are perpetuating this idea by suggesting that young women are somehow enticing older men. Also, calling any girl under 16-17 as "sexually mature" is disturbing.

My point is that Nafisato Diallo had nothing to gain by persecuting DSK. And neither did the journalist who also came out to say that he attacked her. They lost so much, as do most alleged victims who persecute. I just don't see why they would lie... do you?

Well, I'm glad you know what actually happened in that hotel room.

Very true, the conclusion of that situation did not end in her favor. But she didn't need to win a trial for the media, as well as DSK's supporters, to smear her with accusations of being a money grubber (even though she had little to nothing to gain from accusing him), releasing her personal information (spreading the word that she lived in housing for HIV-positive people), and generally defaming her character in any way possible.

I guess my point is, the idea of the campaign is to encourage guys to think twice before really pressuring a lady for sex. Most men know where this boundary lies and have no problem staying in line, but sadly there are a few who don't, and that's who these ads are targeting. Feminists are celebrating this because women are no longer the targets of these campaigns. I hope that helps shed some light on it.
/r/MensRights14/01/12 06:36 AM

Here's the deal from a feminists' perspective. These ads are in reaction to every rape awareness campaign ever being centered around condescendingly telling women not to drink or they'll get raped. This is horrible because valid rape cases are thrown out on a regular basis because the women involved were intoxicated. In a rape trial, women ARE often blamed for their own rapes, citing everything from their sexual history, to their drinking. The attacker in the alley scenario that we all affiliate…

She sounds like a shitty human being. And by all means, report her to authorities, because as you said, that kind of behavior would land a man in prison. The fact that you're not only helps her "get away" with her ridiculous behavior. If she were a man, it would be more constructive for you to resolve the situation nonviolently. So instead of getting upset for being criticized for making violent threats, fucking do something productive about it.

Hang on... are you saying we wish that rape culture were true? You need only look at any recent nonviolent rape case (Dominique Strauss-Kahn, the NYC rape cops, etc) to see rampant blaming of the victim.

I've heard plenty of horror stories about rape cases for women, but this is the first personal account I've heard from a man's point of view and I' very sorry to hear of it. Accusations of sexual assault and rape should never be handled by a school, or anyone but the justice system itself. Though it's failed victims so many times, it at least makes more sense than this story.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
