Wait a minute here... MGM is just as much a religious custom. Did you forget that this is frequently performed by rabbis? And even when not done for judaism; plenty of christians still have it performed on their children because the bible encourages it. If Dawkins has explicitly stated religion is his reason to campaign against FGM and not MGM, someone should correct him.

Wow. I know Ben personally, as I've known his awesome wife (the musician Tonikom) for many many years. He's a tattoo-covered bald beast of a man who's DJ'd and written industrial music (which as a genre celebrates war-like themes quite a bit) for a long time... but he's not a nazi. The fact that this woman even has such a public mouthpiece to tear down accomplished men is evidence of the female privilege to being listened to. If a man made such accusations, it would go unnoticed.

No charges for falsely misleading police, eh?

What you need to consider is the cycle of violence (look into Erin Pizzey's writings on the topic). On the question of magnitude, the CDC study on reciprocal/non-reciprocal violence speaks to how damage is indicated by, predicted by even, mutual violence. Therefore the problem, and really the answer you should be giving your friend, is not who damages who more, or even frequency, but escalation. Women do tend to be injured more. But they also initiate considerably more. They also use weapons con…

That's not blackmail, it's extortion. Blackmail implies some degree of guilt from the target.

So girls are studying, but just not the right things. That's not a disadvantage. I dont disagree it's good to have more women in programming. But saying boys "get enough chances" and stating that we should "let [you] gals have a try" implies that we're keeping you out. But, we're not. Maybe if you chose programming instead of gender studies, you'd have a good paying job.

Considering all the studies that women are advancing further and faster in education than men, what on earth makes you think that "gals" haven't had their fair shake in chances in studying? Clarify, please, what you see as the disadvantage for 'gals' here.

So when are we getting "The Other Man is You" t-shirts made up?

This. Too many caricatures of the violent aggressor picture the man trying to attack easy prey... but the streets - and bars - are full of aggressors looking to feel bigger by taking down another alpha. They're not targetting women; they target the biggest guy they think they can get over on. And I'm sure many of you have run into them. I know I have, many times.

I don't see THAT much of a problem with the whole "arrest first, ask questions later". The job of the police/judicial system is to protect the public... I'd say it's better safe than sorry. -->Wait until it happens to you. I don't wish that on you, but, your tune will change when you're the victim of an assault sitting in a cold jail cell after being booked for assaulting someone you loved, wondering how the hell this could possibly happen. 'better safe than sorry'... WHO'S SAFETY do you mean? A…

Yes; look for blatantly irrational thought, or controlling patterns. Someone posted an article titled "14 red flags" or something like that. I think it was from Art of Manliness. It truly was a near-complete guide to crazy.

Honest question tho - I don't understand why we'd term this instance a "white knight". That term, to me, always meant some guy trying to sacrifice equality to the name of feminism... but that doesn't necessarily mean not protecting victims of violence (if you're so capable). If this guy stepped up to defend another guy, or a child... would we still call him a white knight - or a hero? What if this guy stepped in to stop a woman beating on her man? I have seen people assaulted in public before, a…

Not sure why you're being downvoted?!?! This is not an entirely out of the question scenario... all the more reason OP should get a restraining order and maybe even press domestic violence charges.

There's plenty of sane women that are fun as well. I've dated a ton of crazy (I'm a sucker for it) and a few sane, and the sane are so much more... fulfilling.

I had a similar relationship. You're not alone, dude. I'm tall, strong, decent looking, too. Not weak OR timid. That doesn't mean we must endure violence... and chances are stronger than you'd think that YOU would be the one to end up in jail for sticking it out with her. "why I would continue to stay in relationships that harm me." Do yourself a favor, and research co-dependency. It IS a mind-fuck. We love these people, we want to help them, make them better. But... we can't. Good luck, brother…

"Last but not least, men compete with each other and are turned against each other by primitive urges such as the libido and the desire to impress women , sort of like bulls ramming against each other to see which one has the biggest “status”." Women do the same, they just do it in different ways.

"Fortunately, feminism is teaching women to be more independent, ask men out on dates, pay for dinner, etc." -->Where, exactly, is this happening? More independent? Instead of teaching women that the wage gap is largely their own doing (by not choosing STEM fields, or pursuing similar career paths), they would rather blame others. Ask men out on dates? I have seen exactly zero articles like this - and hundreds on date rape, or how men are solely responsible for the negotiation of consent. If any…

"I might ask "What's for dinner" and hope you're gonna say Italian. Is that still testing for outcome?" -->A test is when there's a right and wrong answer. If you're gonna get upset that I've cooked tacos when you want italian, that's an unfair test - I should have read your mind, right? If you're just hoping I say italian, and I suggest tacos - you have no right to be bothered by that, and you should say "I feel like italian!", not expect me to divine what you're thinking. Now, observation of h…

"What would you say is the difference between observing reaction and testing for outcome? I think they are the same." -->Testing for outcome means you have a required or desired outcome - you offered to pay expecting your date would object and then pay (or object but let you pay when you insist, or let you pay without objection). Observing reaction is not caring about the outcome, but about how it's handled. The former is a passive aggressive trap, the latter is normal interaction. I can't imagi…

I'm not making shit up - that's obviously not a quote from you; it's a comparison to what you're saying. You're not promoting dialogue, instead you're promoting putting your date in a tough spot to see how he reacts. You're hung up on insisting that there shouldn't be an attempt for 'the right answer' but an indication of what your date truly believes - but you're doing so with a test that's slanted against us due to obsolete societal conditioning. You're forcing him to react to a situation that…

note that I do support self defence - I just don't think 29 stab wounds, a gunshot to the head from a gun she stole from her grandparents a month prior, and near-decapitation... looks like self defence.

Even IF I believed her story about her boyfriend (I don't, she's cray), I really don't think abuse is justification for murder. In 70% of relationships where there was non-reciprocal abuse, the aggressor was the female. Feminists standing behind the "She was abused!" defense should be reminded that there are a whole lot of women doing the abusing in cases where they aren't being hit back. If they really want to portray murder as a valid defense of abuse, a whole lot of abusive women may be kille…

I am listening. Here's the difference: "Maybe I want to know what your stand on abortion is. " I'm saying "It's fine to ask." You're defending "It's ok to poke a hole in the condom".

I used to really like the "Date pays for drinks afterwards" scenario, as it usually lets them dictate where the night goes from there. "Let's go have a drink" can turn into "Want one more?" or just simply one and done. However, with the new push for "alcohol-fueled sex is never consensual" I'm not sure I wanna play that game ever again. Pity, because I've definitely had more than a few try to feed me as many drinks as they could buy me in hopes they could loosen my inhibitions.

"There is nothing that you're supposed to do. There is no right or wrong." vs: "If I want you to do A and you do B, then maybe we are too different and shouldn't go out." You really don't see it, do you? ...how about you just be honest with your date, instead of setting a trap like this? If you simply said "I'd have a problem with a man who handled this situation rudely or ungraciously", that's a totally acceptable observation. But instead, you're making us guess what type of woman you are on th…

So how am I supposed to know what I'm supposed to do? Here's what's my big concern here. Society dictates that men should pay. Equality dictates that women should pick up some checks. Real life falls somwhere in between. But you, you want me to guess what I should do - as a secret test for dateworthiness? At least tell me I'm being tested so I know you're crazy before I agree to pay for your dinner at what should be our last date together.

It doesn't make me uncomfortable, no. This isn't simply mentioning your political views - that would be overt, and an honest discussion. We're cool with that. Do and say what you mean. If you truly feel you should - or want to - pick up the check, say so. Or do so, so long as it's not a game. What's NOT cool is offering to pick up the check if that's a trap or we're being judged on the response. Sure, if the guy's a dick about it, that's valid to be judging him on it. But if he graciously accept…

I would argue that sniping the check does put the other person in a weird spot. You now have to guess what the game is - is she expecting you to counter offer to pick up the check? Split it with her? Get the tip? Let her pay without argument? Let her pay with argument? Ugh. If a woman does this as a test, don't give them a second date. If they legitimately see the position men are stuck in from custom, then cool, they get it. But testing how we're going to respond like this? I don't know how I S…

Yeah, I for one don't think officer's judgement should be doubted either way. Must-arrest is bad, but so is can't-arrest. If an officer finds a bloodied victim, I think they shouldn't have to wait for that victim to file charges just to make an arrest. This standard doesn't make sense for domestic OR non-domestic violence. This also creates a race condition - the concept of 'first to call is the victim' is bad enough, what about 'first to file'? These are all terrible situations that often resul…
