I agree the guy who puts him down wont be the master of confidence, but he this more confident than the text writer. So it's not a solution to tell him that his friend is just a low self esteem beta. As long as putting others down works he is seen as alpha ! That's why he does it. It also doesn't mean he is insecure, but he takes advantages.
