Also, I never said that "pussy" was a "worse" term, just that it was one example of the general trend of feminine words signifying weakness. That's the main thing I'm driving at. Period." - Maddox You can use female equivalents of male words to imply that someone is an "asshole", but the issue is that many feminine words carry an extra, derogatory element that masculine words don't in the sense that (broadly speaking) man = strong and woman = weak. "Don't be such a pussy" and "Don't be such a dick" are two very different means of saying "Don't be such an asshole" (a lovely gender neutral insult!). The UD is useful as an indicator of mainstream acceptance. 1227 people liked the definition of heifer, only 323 didn't. Period." - Maddox I essentially agree with what he’s saying in that using gendered words as insults isn’t inherently hateful, and I think his distinction between disrespect and hate is important and valid. But regardless of that disclaimer, language has evolved over time in such a way that gendered words come with a lot of baggage.
