I have no similar experience to relate to, but trying to imagine going through this my first thought was whether having my tongue removed is possible... Other than that I would seek help from Ayurveda if western medicine isn't currently up to the task.

Some spiritual teachings say that suffering is an opportunity to come closer to god, which we do by learning something from the suffering. Example: If we have attachment to something or someone, this will eventually lead to suffering, which we can overcome by letting go of attachment. This is a big and complicated subject, what I mean to transmit is that according to teachings from many different religions that suffering may indeed forge a better person.
