Your main objection seems to be towards selfishness. Do you really believe in anyone that is purely altruistic? As in completely selfless, or even self-destructive, for the benefit of others? I think the majority of people doing acts of charity or good deeds do it for some form of reciprocity, whether it's direct or pseudo-reciprocal. How many people do you know that share and talk about social issues (e.g. BLM comes to mind recently) and how many do you know that actually DO anything about it? …

That is just contradiction. Fulfillment is by definition achieving what is desired. If people get what they want, they are fulfilled.

So it's a transaction after all.

How is "we don't have to" the same as "we shouldn't care"? I also followed with "It might be possible to level off birth rate" so... I said "we don't have to" to replacing with immigrants. Russia has a negative growth rate. Basically strawman my argument and dismiss my actual "weasel" argument, lol. Yes, we do care about existing. The Earth does not. So you agree. But overpopulation is a myth according to you. :\

b) we should not care about declining population rates Where did I say this? Ask Japan and any economist. While I'm at it, ask Russia about their foreign debt and negative growth rates. Population growth is a requirement for a social safety net. You still haven't addressed the issue here. I'm not sure that's a requirement, maybe if you think a growing GDP is necessary under capitalism? My only angle is that the Earth doesn't care if humans exist or not. It can go on into an ice age or without re…

You're right that there are a lot of assumptions and models. There are more variables here than just birth and mortality rates. I answered why I thought we have an overpopulation problem. Obviously we should have a social safety net; I made no value judgement on that. What is there for me to address? Overpopulation is usually in the context of global population and what the Earth can support. I took it for granted that we're not just talking about the U.S. and Europe. That's partly why economics…

I just said that growth rates will decrease. The UN report says nothing about overpopulation, although it admits that depending on its' assumptions of future fertility rates, the population could be up to four times what they predict. There are studies that say we're already at the Earth's carrying capacity, or that we're borderline at least. https://academic.oup.com/bioscience/article/54/3/195/223056 It's also not obvious that you need an economy that employs people, nor that you need a positiv…

We don't have to. It might be possible to level off birth rate at the replacement rate or lower to curb overpopulation. Also the places reproducing the fastest should slow down once they get more developed.

I agree it's a numbers game. But if it takes 100 movies before getting an Oscar, you might die before getting to the 100th film. You're right that there's no "expected value" of 0.01, but those are still your odds of success. If your goal is to couple up, you can expect to wait longer before meeting one that suits you. If your goal is to get laid, you won't get laid often. We're generalizing because we're talking about strategies that would work for anyone. Why not improve your chances?

Unless you are buttfuckinghedious looks don't mean fkall Losers have to be very handsome to get women. Rich, powerful and famous men are Axe commercials made manifest. It's almost like looks aren't nearly as important and they barely matter. Unedited, you're contradicting yourself. You're taking extremes like celebrities and "buttfuckinghedious" to form your theories. What does that tell you?

First, how can you know the originals did it better if you never read any of it? More importantly, did anyone notice how Chrysippus died of laughter? And if that man isn't a Stoic, I don't know who is. haha He died during the 143rd Olympiad (208–204 BC) at the age of 73.[4] Diogenes Laërtius gives two different accounts of his death.[17] In the first account, Chrysippus was seized with dizziness having drunk undiluted wine at a feast, and died soon after. In the second account, he was watching a…

That makes sense. Maybe it doesn't make much difference either way. Some people are more trained to be self-staters. Change ultimately has to come from within. By the way, I wouldn't expect any results from posting on social media at all. That's just as good as an empty promise, or that dopamine effect someone mentioned. Personally for some things I like to talk about with close friends. They might have some pro-tips if they've been there themselves. When your knowledge and confidence level on d…

I've heard both sides of the argument and both seem compelling. On the other hand, telling people about your intentions and your efforts holds you more accountable. You have people to talk to for progress reports, so there's that extra peer pressure. It's like having a gym buddy; it's harder to skip the gym because you don't want to let both of you down.

They're saying you're falsely equating the two. You're not wrong that sex is a type of interaction. But to suggest you can't survive without sex is a little out there.

I'm not sure that I agree, and don't want to go down that rabbit hole. The wage gap has been argued ad nauseam and it's beside the point the original comment was making. It's fair to recognize both issues and address them not as gender issues, but as human issues. It's also fair to recognize that both men and women have their own "almost" unique issues that need working on. I don't mean to measure the plight of either and say which has/had it worse because that doesn't get us anywhere. It wasn't…

If that's the case, I don't see why the wage gap is a gender issue. I'm just talking about things that disproportionately affect men, which brings us full circle.

It should go without saying, I'd rather evening out the death rate by eliminating fatalities altogether in the workplace, regardless of gender. But that's in a perfect world. Women can join those fields if they want. More importantly, it's possible to make these jobs safer without removing them altogether.

Most of the dangerous work requires high dexterity in precarious places. Do you see robots crab fishing anytime soon? Even if you're right, it will only be true for developed countries. Human labor is still so cheap in the developing world. Look at sulfur mining, they don't even bother to wear breathing apparatuses. It's still a current issue that needs to be worked on. As it is men are 10:1 more likely to die in the workplace than women. That's some messed up statistics. Might justify the appar…

Right. Murica... That's just how it is for most civilized countries. Like I said before, the US is in the minority. Is that false?

"at fault" divorces technically exist where I'm from (Canada), but practically never happen. It's quicker and often cheaper in legal fees to go "no fault" after one year separation. It literally has no impact on custody either.

Ask anyone you know about their divorce settlement if the reason for divorce made any difference. The terms of divorce aren't a punishment, not meant to be anyway. Adultery isn't a crime either, at least in most industrialized countries. The US is in the minority. Most of the states where it is criminalized, it's a misdemeanor, not a felony. Regardless, divorce is legally a division of assets, but ethically debatable on how to divide everything.

Anxiety disorders are statistically more female, and bipolar is more statistically male. I know that much.

I just mean that evolution has absolutely no bearing on the way we live our lives. Nobody evolves into a Blastoise in their lifetime. Sounds like a straw-man. You refuted the argument that "a man is defective if he doesn't want to procreate" based on the tone alone, on "evolutionary terms". But most people want kids, right? Have you read the side-bar on "Alpha traits"? You might be surprised it's not just physical appearance. I've known women I thought were unicorns at some point or another - so…
