I’m not saying it should be “on women to fix it”, I’m saying we as a society have unhealthy expectations for people; we make virtually no effort to prepare people for life and then expect them to perform and socially exile them when they don’t. It’s very “Entry level position - requires at least five years of job experience.”

Most? Do you think it’s most? Because if most average men provide bad relationships, and we assume below average men also provide bad relationships, and we all avoid those, then the vast majority of people are going to be single forever. I’m not saying people should have bad relationships just to *have* a relationship. I’m saying this worldview, if assumed about average men, is part of the exact problem being discussed.

Men say that because they are desperate to feel desired and valued for more than just the work they can do, and pretend it’s just about wanting an easier life. Most men would not actually behave that way if they woke up as women.

I think that’s accurate, tho I don’t think it necessarily that they don’t want it; it’s either that they don’t understand what they’ll actually get along with it, or they don’t know what they actually need, or both. Boys want easy sex, girls want bad boys, teenagers want to be adults ASAP, and kids want candy. None of these things are good for us, they’re not what we need.

I think the kids are calling that demisexual, nowadays.

If you are just curious about fantasies, the truth is pretty often, depending on your definition. Little flicker thoughts, lasting a fraction of a second, of putting a hand on a stretch of exposed skin? Sure, maybe every couple days. Elaborate fantasies with plot and back-and-forth? Very very rarely, and usually only with someone whom I have a crush on. I’d say 70% of the time just being around a moderately attractive person, lizard brain will cause my eyes to flick to points of interest. Most o…

That is some people’s experience, yes. I have known at least two women who followed that exact strategy, though I don’t believe it to be universal.

Survival instinct. Same as does are naturally drawn to bucks with big antlers and muscular builds, the human brain believes that a male with greater emotional fortitude is a male more suited to the survivalist protector role. The lizard brain doesn’t realize we’re in a society where we don’t need every guy to wrestle a bear in order to stay alive and be emotionally ok afterwards. The lizard brain sees a person getting beaten down emotionally over things that aren’t going to stop anytime soon and…

Gotcha. Yeah, I don’t think anyone would disagree, but social interaction (specifically with strangers) has to rely on either “curb appeal” or the other party’s ability to look past the lack therein. It’s good and right and just to champion the idea of everyone eventually looking past that, and everyone eventually will in their own lifetime (I hope). But the limiting factor on imposing that as a social norm is that society is constantly being refreshed with new people who are just living their l…

Your second paragraph seems superficially contradictory to your original assertion. Am I correct in gathering that you beleive in the existence of genuine skill in social navigation and communication, but object to the common use of the term “social skills” as referring to mere charm? In other words, you believe in the craftsmanship, but are irritated that people keep calling “craftsmanship” what should be called “curb appeal”?

BASICALLY. NO. SURGERIES. ARE. REVERSIBLE. Anytime you cut into and alter the human body, there are some permanent effects. It’s tragic that people aren’t educated on this. Yes, some extremities can be reattached, implants can be removed, etc.. But, there will always be effects that last.

What a selfish, insecure child. If you don’t want to be willing to take another person’s life into consideration, then you aren’t looking for a relationship, you’re looking for an outlet.

Generally, I agree sadly, and I support you speaking out. However, the back to back phrases “I’m not interested in a desk job” and “I spent 20k in savings” are likely part of the problem for your partner. Probably not all of it, but it wouldn’t surprise me if that was a big part of it.

She’s capable of making choices but really any age gap like that is bad, imo. The younger you are, the bigger deal an age gap is because it’s statistically more likely that the younger person doesn’t understand the full ramifications of dating someone in a drastically different stage of life.

She’s a self absorbed moron. Not all women are like this, she’s just very clearly told you she’s not someone you should spend time around. Ignore her and find better ones.

I super appreciate you being willing to observe this reality, as it’s a blind spot for so many people. I’m a pretty big guy, and worked labor jobs my whole adult life, so I’m solidly built. I find that my experience is the photo negative of a woman’s. When I am alone in public, where a woman might worry about being assaulted regardless of her behavior, I am subjected to that fear, regardless of my actions. Where women often feel they must have friends with them at night for protection, I feel I …

I mean lots of men are plagued by the same ideas about women. Lots of guys think women like fancy cars, big houses, etc., but the only women who care about that stuff as primary requirements are shallow, and people who are attracted to men because of that are also probably shallow. The same is true in reverse: the only people attracted to women, who care about makeup and heels and such as a determining factor, are shallow trash-people.

Much as I appreciate hearing of any problems Ms. Heard suffers as consequences of her actions, I do not want to traffic TMZ. They’re sensationalist, conflict-provocative, drama-mongering trash distributors.

I agree with you that a man and a woman would be treated differently in the situation. I agree with you that that’s unfair. I agree with you that their reaction is inappropriate. However, he’s not making any point about gender differences. He’s intentionally rejecting people for Internet clout, he is manipulating their expectations and emotions as a joke. He is leading them on and then rejecting them in front of other people, explicitly to make fun of them on the Internet. That’s a dick move. Ed…

While I agree with your base point, I would like to point out that he is definitely being a dick. Not illegal, but not cool; especially where he’s doing it on purpose. Still some really weirdly aggressive reactions. If the genders were flipped and a man reacted like that, he’d be arrested almost immediately. Edit: want to add: he’s doing it on purpose and for a video. Dick move.

I agree most with this. He’s being a jerk for a video, and he’s doing it on purpose, which is rude. But at least two women violently shoved him, and two straight up smacked him. I’m not a lawyer, but that seems like assault.

Just recently started watching Chicago med, and the director is a brilliantly written female authority figure. She’s a professional powerhouse, go check it out.

That “because he can’t give consent at that age” is literally the definition of the word “statutory” in this use. EDIT: To clarify, for myself and the other commenter (I assume), we agree that rape is rape. However, there’s a flaw in your point in that the fact you used to justify that it is definitely rape is literally the definition of the term you’re opposing.

I mean there’s a lot of basic problems with the post beyond outside imbalances. This woman is taking on a lot of outside tasks by her own choice and getting mad when her SO doesn’t leap in to help her. She’s somehow mad that her man doesn’t leap in to assist with her life when she decides to do all these extra things. This is why I don’t understand women.

Man, I’m just saying you came out of left field and we’re condescending toward this guy for no reason. Excuse me if my defense of him was not as polite as it could have been. I believe the point I made is solid

You’re being needlessly insulting to this person’s intelligence with your comments. So, first of all, piss off. [That was rude of me, and uncalled for.] As to the nonsensical point that you’re making, which seems to entirely ignore the (valid) point OP is making about the unreasonable expectations of society regarding the outcome of competitive employment: you’re dismissing his whole point, not dismantling the argument. There is a key difference he’s discussing and you’re simply ignoring it. I t…
