Hateful? What? This is a quote from the ad agency that made the ad "Simon Veksner, deputy ECD at DDB Sydney said ‘You know when you’ve met The One. And you don’t go back. In fact if you do run into your past, it can be rather embarrassing. So when it came to launching new Tip Top The One, we decided to dramatise how great it feels to have found this bread by showing what happens when a woman runs into her ex-bread, in the supermarket'." Sounds like a parody of a broken relationship to me. http:/…

The breadman is an ex-husband. It's a parody of the old, awkward "ex-wife meets ex-husband while shopping" episode. Did you miss that? BTW, I don't hate feminists or anybody else for that matter. No need to project nasty things on other posters.

Another ad from the same campaign shows a father "helping out" with the grocery shopping, but the damn fool can't pick out the right bread. He keeps coming back to the shopping cart with the "wrong" bread, while all the mums in the store look on and shake their heads, as if to say "stupid bastard". Finally one of the mums has to tell him which bread "is best". BTW, he seems to be the only dad in a store full of mums. Guess men don't shop for groceries. Hard to say what year the ad is depicting, …

This is a very decent book on those kinds of issues. http://www.finch.com.au/books/their-own

This is a general bias in society, not just an isolated act of one woman. When it comes to the "men are paedophiles" prejudice, the whole world seems to lose its rationality. Check out what happened to Boris Johnson, mayor of London. http://www.theotherglassceiling.com/2012/06/come-fly-not-so-friendly-skies.html

More women attend college than men these days, so that particular institution seems to be changing, though there are still very few (post)graduate students in traditionally male fields (i.e., science, engineering, maths, etc.) There is also a rather obvious "glass ceiling" when it comes to women in professorial ranks. The junior faculty numbers are roughly even by gender, but by the time you move the rank of chaired professor the skew towards males is rather pronounced.

I'm not sure I agree with any of you. Men die sooner than women, on average ("on average" being the key phrase here), because they engage in risky behaviour. Every time a male teenager dies in a car crash (far more likely than for female teenagers), the male average drops relative to the female average. Studies that control for "lifestyle differences" usually find little of no difference in lifespan between men and women. This is also why married men live longer than single men - they take fewer…

There are multiple ideologies of feminism, some very much anti-male (eco-feminism for example), and some not. "Feminism" has effectively become political jargon for any group of women organized for any kind of socio-political change, and in many caes, the aims of "feminists" become antithetical. Divorced women who fight shared parenting initiatives (50/50 arrangements) so they retain sole custody of their children call themselves "feminists", as do career-oriented married women who demand equal …

Carlin turned his back on men just like any good feminist. Just look for his discussion of fathers on You Tube ("All the world's problems can be traced to how fathers treat their sons"). Look, men modify the environment. Sometimes for good, sometimes not. We're not inherently good or evil, just agents of change. Many blame "stupid white men" for global warming and other such modern maladies, but how many would give up the creature comforts resulting from all that industrialization? http://femini…

There's currently a problem with pub violence throughout the UK, and here in Sydney the local government has considered shutting all bars down at midnight to stop all the violence, so I'm not sure I agree with your premise. And I think the reason is obvious - people can drink shots of hard liquor at bars. They can certainly get pissed at sporting events, but it takes longer drinking beer. I was actually being sarcastic and thought you were too. Besides I think sporting leagues also have a pretty…

No need for cursing and implied violence. My point is shockingly simple - you can't punish ALL men because of the behaviour of a small minority. That's it. You can't deny men basic rights because a handful of men cause problems. If we extend your position, then why stop at soccer matches? Men cause most the violent crimes at bars and pubs. Let's ban them from going here too. And come to think of it, most street crimes are committed by men. So if I follow your reasoning, we should solve this prob…

A non-reply. Just as I expected. Okay. Substitute "vast majority" then, or do you dispute that too?
/r/MensRights21/09/11 09:24 PM

Yeah. Drunken men at bars. No chance for violent behavior there. A much better outcome for all.

The "if hooligan, then male" reality simply does not justify an "if male, then hooligan" policy. This policy punishes innocent men. Sure soccer violence is a big problem, but as you note above, there are many other ways of dealing with it. Punish the hooligans, not all people who happen to have a penis. BTW, feel free to walk away from MRA any time you like. We'll get over it.
/r/MensRights21/09/11 09:21 PM

The vast majority of male soccer fans are not hooligans. Why should they be banned from attending?
/r/MensRights21/09/11 11:05 AM
1

Okay then. So the outcome that the 99% percent of male soccer fans who have never committed an act of violence were denied a chance to attend should be overlooked completely.
/r/MensRights21/09/11 10:44 AM

Nor do the vast, vast, majority of men who attend soccer games. The hooligans are a minority. Looks like somebody can't tell the difference between "if criminal, then male" and "if male, then criminal". This policy is based on the latter (since all men are banned from attending), which has no logical, mathematical relationship to the former (yes, most soccer hooligans are male).

Substitute the word "fewer" for "more" in the headline and you have an equally plausible suggestion. Why didn't we have these kinds of stand-offs in decades past, when fewer women were in Congress? This just reduces to that same tired, old song "When something goes wrong, blame men".

Leave both seats and the cover down before flushing. No gender is disadvantaged and you stop tiny droplets of urine from going all over your bathroom. http://www.theotherglassceiling.com/2010/11/toilet-seat-problem-solved.html

The PC part is that if you reversed the words "men" and "women" in this article (especially in the headline), no newspaper would dare print it.

Women simply do not agree whether PMS is a social construction or a serious medical condition. Those who believe the former blame a patriarchical medical profession and those subscribing to the latter view are annoyed that men dismiss their physical and emotional distress. The problem for men is that any woman at any time can choose the view that best suits her current situation. If a woman can do this to get away with murder, it will work nicely for most domestic conflicts. http://feministphall…

Many women who have (or believe they have) PMS want this to be acknowledged. Most have not killed anybody, but they do want their experiences to be acknowledged, and they get downright testy if you suggest that PMS is merely a social construction. Other women bristle at the notion that menstruation is debiliating in anyway and accuse the medical patriarchy of perpetuating the PMS (actually PMDD) myth for the purposes of limiting women's opportunities (and making a lot of $$$$ "curing" them). Tog…

"Women, naturally and rightfully, don't like insinuations that they are at any time emotionally unstable, bitchy, crazy, monsters, irrational, prone to outbursts, ect. (sic)" Unless it suits them, like when they're trying to get out of murder.

Is it any wonder that men are a little confused about PMS? These ads simply make light of male confusion and ignorance, yet women are already up in arms. Mostly women suffering from PMS I'm guessing? In other words, they are saying "Don't trivialize how angry and moody I get during PMS, or I'll get...angry and moody." http://feministphallusies.blogspot.com/2011/05/pms-is-double-edged-sword.html

Marketing stereotypes consumers. This is necessary to send a single advertising message via a mass medium that may reach millions. Unfortunately, the prevailing gender stereotype is that dads can't hack it in the household. This does not mean that EVERY dad is lousy at cooking, cleaning, laundry, etc. but the stereotype is reinforced by marketing and many other aspects of society. http://feministphallusies.blogspot.com/2011/05/marketing-message-to-fathers-in.html

Government policies ARE a part of how society operates. These government entities are addressing exactly the same gender stereotypes under discussion here. The first two "real" issues you list and this discussion are about the stereotype that mothers are "natural" caregivers and fathers are somewhat (considerably?) less adept. I didn't work myself into a tizzy. YOU did. And I don't think anybody minds very much that you are "just about done with r/mensrights".

What if you're not "an upwardly mobile young professional who is making a very comfortable living", but just a regular dad? As a single dad, the bit about being cut out of the play groups would bother me most. Now you're talking about affecting how and who my kids interact with in and outside of school. Another thing, why all this talk about allowing gay dads in? Did I miss something? What about letting all dads in regardless of sexual orientation? Are heterosexual dads not even worth considerin…

The problem is that the marketplace, and society in general, implies that only women perform domestic labor. Men are left out of the picture. http://feministphallusies.blogspot.com/2011/05/marketing-message-to-fathers-in.html

The amazing thing is that CBS News would source content from Glamour magazine. Now there's a credible source! This article merely perpetuates the worst stereotypes about men. Subjective accounts of "abuse" are prone to bias. He does something and its "abuse"; she does the same and its justifiable anger at something he did. http://feministphallusies.blogspot.com/2011/03/all-men-are-criminalsuntil-proven.html

Note that the gender issue is entirely omitted. Any scantily clad men beating homeless women on that website? Nope, didn't think so. This website suggests why homeless men are better targets. http://www.theotherglassceiling.com/2011/02/burden-of-breadwinning.html
