A friend of mine was being abused by his wife; physically and emotionally. One day while she was beating him, he pushed her back. That was it; she called the cops, and won in every way. Sole custody of their kid. She did it because she was cheating on him, and figure setting him up like that would work. It did. Worst part is how she bragged about it to my wife and I. And my wife is still friends with her.
