Wow, it all fits on one page. Is this exhaustive?

Kristof has been pushing this idea for years as being the most effective way to improve situations. I'm not clear on what studies he's basing it on but he talks extensively about how it's grounded in research findings. http://www.nytimes.com/2009/08/23/magazine/23Women-t.html?pagewanted=all&_r=0

I'm hoping to soon buy The Essential Difference (Baron Cohen), A Natural History of Rape: Biological Bases of Sexual Coercion (Thornhill, Palmer), and Who's Afraid of Charles Darwin? Debating Feminism and Evolutionary Theory (Vandermassen). So you pretty much read books that play into every pre and mis-conception you have about sex differences in humans? You do know that the aforementioned authors are on the wrong, nativistic side of evolutionary biology, right? They have been left in the 1980s …

Gender and sex in this context mean the same thing. look... But it's not dependent on their sex, it's dependent on their gender. It "sounds" "the same" to you because you don't know what gender means.

In this context they would mean the same thing. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. You're wrong, stop now. Use a dictionary next time before typing your posts. You're embarrassing yourself.

As long as you understand the difference between gender and sex, kiddo, make as many "observations" as you like.

That's what you think because it aligns with your worldview. Science has no evidence for that view.

They compared a truck with a doll. You're telling me that you believe boys are disinterested in people? They showed equivalent interest across trucks and humans, which implies they lack any predisposition towards any toy. That's evidence against a sex-based account of toy preference.

because baby's are taught that barbies are for girls before they can walk I did not say that, but we're looking at the difference between a truck and a doll. Perhaps it's not that toys are sex-typed but that the human form is sex-typed, with girls preferring human-like objects and boys showing no preference (that's what was found). That has nothing to do with toys. Boys looked at the doll and truck in equal amounts in the 9-month study, which actually disproves your claim. Citation?

What evidence do you have that hypergamy even exists outside of your paranoia and inferiority complex?
/r/MensRights29/10/12 03:01 AM

Everything happens. My question was why it's an issue and what relevance it has. I see no evidence of its existence, either. Is there a single study that supports the existence of hypergamy?

Why? You realize that the 12-month incidence completely obfuscates the relationship between age (a vulnerability factor) and rape victimization? Further, your statistical table does not show how many of those male rapes were perpetrated by men. From what we know about prison rape the vast majority of male rape is committed by other men. Having a lifetime incidence would help us in seeing that.

None of those quotes differs from my account. Something can have no trace in history, have no record of being used against POWs, etc, and still occur infrequently. You're also quoting the OP, who's clearing being hyperbolic, not the teacher.

Why did you circle the 12-month statistics? The lifetime incidence for rape for women is 4 times that of men, which is of more interest.
/r/MensRights28/10/12 03:09 AM

If rape never happened then there would be no reason to have laws against electing leaders who have committed it. That isn't necessarily true. The claim is that rape was nearly non-existent - that is: very, very uncommon. If they had a strict custom against it, and it was very uncommon, then it makes sense for this to be a requirement in politics. I think you need to brush up on your logic - this is all aside from the so-called 'facts'.

So if .15% of women are sexually victimized a year, and 1 in 4 women sexual assaulted in their lifetime, that means that women live on average 166 years. That or maybe the lifetime statistics are acquired through a flawed methodology. ಠ_ಠ Once again, you have no shitting idea about anything you're talking about. Where do you work / what's your job? No, I'm saying "look these are the actual numbers. They're not as big as some people like to say. You shouldn't believe the wrong numbers" And you.. Someone who spends a good deal of their free time trying to disprove rape, take away funding for women's issues, etc, are a good source for interpreting epidemiological studies? Give me a break. If you think that someone who would write this with a straight-face: Imagine a society functioning where men get to live down to women's standards for behavior. It'd be a few steps away from anarchy. We'd be so dysfunctional that we'd be conquered from within (birth rates) or without (war) in short order even if we don't economically collapse from the lack of real work being done because everybody's to scared to criticize anyone's results. is an actual mens rights activist and not a hysteric mis…

You are no mens rights activist, and you're clearly unaware of the cultures all over the world that have more than two or three gender identities.

Gender is reality, to those who interact with gendered people and to those who live gendered existences. Having a psychological gender means having a biological gender, since one's psychology and identity is directly linked to the brain and hormones. To deny that biology influences gender is to deny the gender constructs of male and female altogether. When you say reality: do you mean your assumptions and your ignorance? Or do you mean reality?

Your asking to be addressed as Lord and Master is denigrating to Neurotikitty and anyone who interacts with you, since your identity implies the re-identification of others (they are now your "slaves" since the common understanding of the name of your identity is "master") Asking to be called a "them" or "him" or "she" does not denigrate anyone nor does it re-identify anyone's personal identity. That's a false equivocation and it's pretty clear that it is the only argument you have on you. Anyth…

Are those stats in proportion to the number of single mothers v single fathers? You also need to add 20% to each of those figures since you need to include cases where both parents were abusive. Furthermore, if one parent is abusive that means the other is neglectful, so this doesn't remove fathers from culpability, nor mothers. I don't think you should start creating ad campaigns before you understand the basic statistics behind the problem.

A more scientific approach to this would be to ask: "How does this article help us understand domestic violence better and provide us the means to prevent it, and what can we learn from it? Additionally, are there any limitations to the theory/evidence that should be taken into account when inferring from this article?" Instead, we've opened our perspective up by literally closing our eyes, holding each other's hands, and dunking our heads into the sand together. Let me know when this perspectiv…

If the air-force statistics from the 1980s agree with us, they're good If the male DV statistics agree with us, they're good If the male survey questions produce data that agree with us, that's really good! If the female anything statistics agree with us (or we can contort them to, e.g. child abuse), they're good If any other survey or statistic disagrees with us? "About 1 in 4 women (24.3%) and 1 in 7 men (13.8%) have experienced severe physical violence by an intimate". The citation you just mentioned may include stalking as well, so it isn't relevant here.

If I recall correctly, the 1 in 4 statistic came from a phone survey of women who called a Women's Refuge. Wrong. A random U.S. survey found 1 in 4 and 1 in 7 men were found to be victims of abuse. Unsure about Britain, but I can't see why the rate would be substantially lower. http://www.cdc.gov/ViolencePrevention/pdf/NISVS_Report2010-a.pdf Cue paranoid/denialist outcry of feminist research bias.

So either the surveys from the Bureau of Justice are wrong, or the surveys yielding lifetime rates are wrong. It's also possible that since they're surveys, they're both very flawed. What is that conclusion based on? Your writing is frankly disorganized and it's not clear where you're getting your numbers. You're also mixing up incompatible data and treating it as comparable. It's abundantly clear that you're in over your head, but you wage forth on your lone mission to disprove rape. Why? A vas…

Rather than have a set of principles of respect and fair treatment that I stick to I just act however society tells me I should be acting and then fall back on gender dynamics as my defense when I'm criticized. It's worked so far. See? I don't even need a brain, just my dick and TV.

But the numbers you derived were derived statistically. Isn't it rather a question of plausibility and not of statistical evidence? You find it implausible that so many women are raped but that belief is not related to how valid the statistics are. If you take a look at certain TwoX threads you would see that rape and sexual assault is an incredibly commonplace experience for many women there, with many women surviving multiple assaults through their teens and 20s. I think you're not in touch wi…

Why is MR so tied to this idea that they need to disprove every rape statistic ever produced? Do you all understand how paranoid and out-of-touch you sound when you dismiss state and national crime statistics with the claim that "surveys are not reliable" and "everything is considered rape nowadays." The latter statement is literally a rape myth. None of what you're trying to argue is grounded in reality, and few of you even understand the basic math and statistics that you're discussing. I know…

Do you think it's a reasonable step, assuming that this warning sign as described is the only information she has? No, but I like Prudie's advice about not leaving the children alone with him. I never said I agreed with the mother 100%, I said that her vigilance was realistic per the situation. That doesn't mean all situations with all vigilant mothers/fathers are valid cases of vigilance, it just means that given even her small description of the events we can see warning signs. Many murderers get away as the police investigate murder suspects. And many murderers are caught because the police *are vigilant about all potential threats, without caring about the feelings of suspects. No one here is advocating that mens rights be violated: we're talking about protecting children from potential, viable threats. The threat described in the letter linked is very viable.

You're arguing that parents should become less vigilant about their children's safety so that men feel more comfortable being around children? When I worked with abused children I left the door open, I did not go in the bathroom with them without someone else present outside, and we responded to every accusation as if it were true until shown otherwise. The same rules applied to women, and parents should be vigilant about all adults and children in their child's life. To argue otherwise is tanta…

Many child molesters are caught via 'hunches' and 'gut feelings' on the parts of caregivers or teachers. It's much less common that a child comes out and says "I am being molested" or actual molestation is witnessed by an adult. I'm not sure that this is pedophilia hysteria. If he's making the older daughter the subject of personalized gifts while neglecting the other children that seems like a pretty clear warning sign. Not evidence. Not a call to the police. But a warning sign. If you're going…

So you don't take into account any other factors when looking at a case - only if the person did or did not do it? Do you apply that standard to the mentally retarded, or persons with severe psychiatric disorders / hallucinations? It doesn't change what she did, but it alters the "reason" why she did it. If a mentally stable man, off drugs, sober, wakes up and kills his children he is a murderer. If a severely depressed man wakes up in a drunken stupor, takes a number of psychiatric medications …
