Agreed, philosophically. But legally, and I just looked it up to be sure... Child support is NOT deductable but alimony is. in other news I just realized why Texas does Child Support as a payment to mothers rather than alimony. It also isn't subject relatively short rules of payment that some areas have for alimony (such as 1 year of alimony for every 2 of marriage, or 1:1, or limit of 10 - Child support will continue until the youngest child is 18; and yes some areas aren't limited)

I note that the English-speaking, Caribbean nation of Belize is not on that list.

alimony was tax deductible I'm in Texas, so not sure about alimony as we don't have that here. instead, we have child support (and no state income tax). Child support is definitely NOT deductible on my federal taxes; my ex get's that income stream tax-free since I've already paid the taxes on it.

they divorced in 2008, since he's challenging the support arraignment, I presume he's been paying it up to to now. (7 years) The judge ordered that her personal maintenance payments must cease, with a tailing-off over a five-year period leading up to Mr Wright’s retirement. the article states that he is 59 years old and plans to retire at 65. So he will continue to pay her for 6 more years, and I infer that she has that time to secure another source of income.

yeah, because alimony should be capped at 13 years of payment after an 11 year marriage. /s

I suspect it wasn't so much sarcasm as having been raised with an expectation that, as a man, he must provide. it's so deeply engrained that he values that expectation above his own life. This is the truth about the patriarchy. Such that it exists, it exists solely to pressure men to ensure the security of women, not to oppress but to protect. And yes, we can and should argue whether they need protection in this day and age. Hell, I'll even accept the argument that protection is inherently oppre…

eh - he still supported her for the last 7 years and that will continue until a "tailing-off over a five-year period leading up to Mr Wright’s retirement", which is about 6 years away. 13 years of support for an 11 year marriage. Sounds like she got to spend 24 years tending to trees, horses, and children without being required to figure out how to put food on the table or a roof over their heads. I wish that I had been born a woman.

So I had ignored this question because it didn't seem relevant to a conversation and just random baiting, but since you've elaborated, I'll answer. Yes, I do get annoyed with many of those that won the genetic lottery, especially if I perceive them to have squandered their blessings (actors that OD, rich kids that just party, etc). However, I also acknowledge that their experiences aren't mine and I that their perception of a good use of the resources (physical, economic, political, social, etc)…

Yes, I'm sure women value their own leave more than that of the fathers. Are you aware of examples of fathers getting leave but women do not? I've never heard of this, please share. Both genders have their oppressions. But on average, society sees to the needs of women before men. Who dies first when there's a war? Who is homeless? Who receives greater punishment in the justice system? Who is expected to find work? Who is expected to hold the door open? Who has to wait at the back of the elevato…

I don't think we talk enough about what happens in that "...quits <their> job?" scenario. Pre-divorce, we work something out. Maybe the a spouse goes to work. Maybe we tighten our belts. Post-divorce, we have a deadbeat on our hands. May need to put him in jail so he'll go back to work for you. Certainly, we'll keep a tally of a debt that he may never be able to pay, and we can deny other rights such a driving. My ex wanted me to pay for cheerleading, which I didn't approve of (risky sport, not a particularly healthy culture). I proposed an increase to child support instead. My proposal was to calculate all the annual costs for the children food, clothing, school supplies, medicine, extra-circulars, cell-phones, child-care, everything I could think of - and I had a woman friend help me account for EVERYTHING we could come up with. We were thorough in our research, I had pricing data on EVERYTHING, clot…

I was in New York 20 years ago... as a 19 year old man, I got just as much harassment - people following me around, calling at me (my army friends and I obviously stood out), etc and I don't think we spent 10 hours walking around. This is just trying to be a victim for the sake of victimhood.

neither is splitting the stats. It creates a one-sided appearance, "no one should ..." followed by the suggesting that some groups have it better than others. If those numbers were right, they should have been roll into a single number and said something like: "no one should experience sexual violence, but sadly, 1 in 8 will." Anything less is promoting an us against them mentality.

"to have sex with other people" is a clause on a list of "force a partner to... have sex with other people". I suspect that they wouldn't put "cheating" on the list, because that's something that an empowered woman is supposed to be allowed to do, right?

I for one got burned badly... they have a system set up (I've read other reviews of other people reporting the same process the same process) of setting you up with a consultation where they assure you that you are in a good position / have good documentation, etc. Then, once you've paid your retainer, they hand you over to some else who isn't as enthusiastic. sometimes I feel like these stories mustn't be true. it has to be fabricated by some man-haters that are trying to intimidate me from seeking custody of my children (as near as I can tell their mother is unemployed and being evicted from her home by the end of the month). I have small means to fight in court (and I believe her parents + my support payment would fund her lawyer) so every time I see something like this I just die inside and give up.

Cordell & Cordell are more about playing your fears and milking you than helping... I tried them for what should have been a simple modification and the burned though about $3k without getting anything done. You can find a lawyer online, but I wouldn't recommend cordell & cordell and I would recommend doing your homework when choosing a lawyer, my mistake was reading other people's experiences AFTER I had been had.

I hired them to help with a modification last year. The lawyer that I met with in the paid consultation thought I was well positioned with the documentation that I had accumulated over the years and convinced me to make a retainer. He then handed me off to lawyer who would work my case, but this guy's attitude was "well, we'll see..." About $3000 later I ended my relationship with C&C, without making making any progress on my modification. Even after I told them it was time to call it quits I st…

I agree that putting the child in a poverty situation is bad, but there needs to be a penalty for those that commit the fraud. Closing the loop with paternity testing would eliminate the fraud in the future, but doesn't really account for those who have cheated the system.

If my child support of $800 is what it takes to cover 5 days, then that means we're assuming that it costs $4800 per month to raise the kids (which is more than we ever made when we were together). A few years ago tried to share my view of a relationship as a "partnership of equals" with a lady-friend, her response to me was along the lines of "no wonder you're single". Seeing this list (or more accurately, the unsolicited affirmation of my precise fe…

the term "sire" was also used and works better for maintaining the decorum of a legitimate news article.

yeah I didn't get funding to do a proper double blind study with decent control group. although we do have new hypothesis: the problem could be that I never get far enough with women for them to even see my car.

I used to hope that was true... that's why I bought a BMW 6 months ago... still haven't gotten any action. =[

nope, that was what I expected when the video was described as "Awful" to the mensrights reddit. not that I'm saying that it isn't awful, it just isn't all that awful from a men's rights perspective.

isn't this just a parody of misery? and... from a MensRights perspective, I think it's a good thing that women like Pink remind other women that they aren't weak and don't need the law to protect them from men any more than men do from women. In the video, she abused a man, but she did it herself, not thru a corrupt legal system.

thanks for sharing your success story, that's encouraging. I started a log back in january, but I haven't been keeping it as well as I should. I need to because it was good to to be able to review and remind myself I'm not a dead beat.

honestly, being overcharged for child support isn't worth the trauma of getting the cops involved. it isn't even a lot of money - we are supposed to split the child care costs 50/50 and we have custody 50/50 over the summer (alternating weeks). Last year she told me that her cost would be $X, so I took that as the going rate for childcare and paid my mother $X as she was watching my girls while I was at work over the summer. At the end of the summer she told me that she only paid a neighbor girl…

women think they have the right apparently they do. anecdotal story, my ex is charging me for daycare for my girls (10 & 12) but leaving them home alone while she's at work. women can do they want, men have little or no rights. Yay feminism!

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
