literally yes. this is precisely the exchange patriarchal gender roles offer: men get the benefit of economic and social power over women, in exchange for accepting the "protector role" in times of war or crisis. yes there's a potential sacrifice, but for most of their adult lives they get to be leaders, decision makers, and owners. if not in the world, then at the very least in their homes. women's lives are spared in wars or crises, but in exchange they have to give up most of their power and …

Because this social norm does not confer a true disadvantage, or at least, it didn't used to. If you take the contract at face value, not only do men get wives that will perform all domestic labor tasks for him, but they also get to have much more power and autonomy in the relationship and in society broadly by being the one with all the money. It's a pretty good deal. This dynamic has also historically been present in race relations - have you ever heard of "the white man's burden"? it's the sa…

the social contract argument only makes sense if you ignore the fact that the vast majority of people who become prostitutes, male or female, do so because of extreme marginalization due to poverty, mental health issues, addiction, or LGBTQ+ status

prostitution is easily the hardest form of sex work. it is by far the most dangerous. You can (theoretically) produce porn safely with trusted colleagues, but being a prostitute requires putting yourself in an extremely vulnerable position with strangers who are potentially/likely to be violent towards you

you think most people in modern households are buying enough new clothes that they don't have to do laundry? some of you are so detached from reality it is unbelievable

this post is made by 1 guy and it's a guy who frequents this subreddit. his preferences do not necessarily reflect "men on average"

it's nice to learn that that old study about men being 7x more likely to divorce their sick wives was not accurate. However there is a more recent study that has a similar finding to that one (https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/jomf.13077?af=R), so. if the MS thing is true then there could be a lot of different factors at play affecting the results of each study such as age, culture, or illness. seems like it's not reasonable to draw a broad conclusion either way. it's a shame the resul…

i know you think you're doing a good job of using your Superior Man Logic™️ here but all of this nonsense you typed out is premised on flattening my argument into a strawman. a man doesn't have to be a slob or an abuser to place unfair emotional or domestic labor burdens on a partner that results in her feelings dissatisfied with a relationship. studies have shown that women have better social support systems than men, and that men rely more heavily on their spouses for emotional support than wo…

i didn't say men ain't shit or that women were perfect. chill out. the reason people get into and stay in abusive relationships is complex. abusive relationships don't usually start out abusive. abusive partners often escalate abusive behaviors gradually over time, so that the victim is emotionally invested in their partner and relationship before they realize how awful their partner is. leaving is indeed very difficult and a lot of people struggle to do it so it should be celebrated when they g…

still doesn't mean she's the cause of the divorce. she might be initiating in reaction to her husband's failures in the relationship - cheating, abuse, not pulling weight around the house, lack of consideration or effort, etc.

even if this is true that doesn't inherently mean the environment is "toxic and unwelcoming" to men. were men in the lab treated poorly or singled out because of their gender?

justice is intrinsically good*. seeking out justice is not always rewarding, especially if you are promoting justice for someone other than yourself. good people seek to treat others fairly and support just causes even when it is personally inconvenient to them. being a good person is actually in direct odds with being a doormat. people who are doormats are conflict-avoidant, that is for the benefit of themselves and their own comfort, not to be 'good'. *the caveat here is that we probably disag…
