I would be shocked if there were any Chapo listeners hanging out here.

What kind of leftist are you? Like? Are you an ml, an anarchist? What's your favorite leftist book?

Wait, is this an anti-feminist subreddit? I thought this was a place for leftists who are concerned about male issues but the op is making me think that might not be the case?

I think that young children do not have a grasp on power structures or innate misogynist beliefs, but they do learn via social conditioning quite quickly. Is that what you mean by feminists by nature?

I would say American society is completely centered around supporting the ultra-rich.

Guy, I do not know what's happens to you in the last day or two but it is obvious that you need to reach out for some help. 1 (800) 273-8255 is the crisis hotline. I really do hope you call them. You don't have to live like this, friend.

I'd say the onus is on you to prove it. Delve into the feminist lit and produce examples. If you cannot, your belief isn't rooted in logic, friend.

Not only that, but the person Op was arguing with is basically saying that assault and rape are the same thing. Sorry, but they are so not. It feels terrible to be assaulted no doubt. But there's something specially grevious about rape that puts it into a category all its own.

I think you're right. Cults do the same thing. You could take a look at Scientology or any cult and see how they have their own terminology and lingo. It is very easy for followers of the cult then to identify in-group and out-group people.

These are some good resources here. In addition, I would recommend that you go out and talk to some women. I think the more that you can see that women are just people and there's tons of variety amongst us, the more you'll see that the RP stuff is a lie.

I think your analysis is spot-on but I would extend it to all hate groups. They have to go on hating and feeling persecuted to keep the rubes on the hook and giving them money/power.

I think it terrifies you because it's beyond your control and you've got trust issues. Those are on you to work out, my dude. Of course people in relationships are sometimes attracted to other people. We aren't dead! But if we value our partner, we acknowledge the attraction and then steer clear of it. A spark of attraction is no replacement for a close, intimate, loving relationship.

Woman here. A lot of people deal with depression in their twenties and a lot of people go to therapy. I wouldn't call either one of these things a deal-breaker. I actually think it shows admirable self-reflection to be able to deal with depression and ask for help when you need it. I am personally not a fan of hair transplants, because I think it looks better just to shave it and accept how you look. However if it looks good I don't see why you would need to tell anybody about it. Having been a …

Okay, so if you cannot see a therapist than I'm going to recommend a book that will help with the persistent automatic thoughts and negative emotions that result from these thoughts. Basically, you need to practice Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. The book is Feeling Good by David Burn and is available for free here: http://faculty.fortlewis.edu/burke_b/personality/readings/Burns.pdf I know some of the stuff in it sounds corny and you might be tempted to ignore or skip the exercises, but BELIEVE M…

I don't think it is all that large or prevalent. But I do think the internet has helped bitter and angry men find each other and given them a place to marinate in all that hate.

I guess it depends on what you mean by "excitement". If you mean sexual attraction, then that lasts. I think for some people it slows down if you have kids and jobs and things, but it hasn't changed for us, even though some of thing we like to do have changed over the years. If by excitement you mean the kind of existential excitement of not knowing whether you will stay together, finding out new stuff about the other person, etc? That is the thing that changes, because as the realtionship matur…

Is it really necessary to bother with this shit to have a great relationship? No, not if your goal is to find a good, honest relationship. Manipulative crap like PUA works on insecure or desperate people (of both genders) for a little while, but most people find a backbone and leave an abusive relationship eventually, or the relationship must become even more toxic and abusive to continue. Real love exists. Real relationships with real people exist. I think it's important to, first and foremost,…

I think a lot of anger, especially male anger, is a way to cover up deep hurt. I think men are socialized to cover up vulnerability with rage. It's really hard to be emotionally vulnerable and to let yourself access the pain underneath the rage because many men are afraid of what they might do if they allow themselves to really feel that I think therapy is a really great place to open up an explore those issues. I know you said that you were afraid of trusting somebody enough to talk to them abo…

Go join social groups or causes irl. Local libraries, community centers and community colleges have loads of classes and workshops that are good ways to socialize. You could also look at Meetup groups or political causes or physical activities that aren't sports (walking groups, geocaching, hiking). There are lots of opportunities for socialization if that's what you're looking for. As far as how to act when there: Treat it like an opportunity to learn how to socialize, and don't automatically d…

Also, one thing to work on might be understanding that your feelings are not facts. Depression comes with cognitive distortions, where you guess at other people's intentions and then make up a story in your head about what must be true and then assert that your made-up version of events is true. You did it in your comment to me when you said that I was "shaming you" for not being able to attract thin women. None of that can be found in my comment, that all just came from your own mind. That is d…

You've said nothing positive about this person that you purport to want to date. the only plus she has going for her, according to you, is that she's desperate enough to date you. This says nothing good about her and nothing good about you. And then the little sentence on the end, that you would leave her if a more attractive person came along, is just callous and cruel. It's also very hypocritical because you simultaneously worry about female hypergamy while admitting you would do the same. It …

You seem really anxious and hyper focused on this issue. I actually think it would be a very good idea for you to seek professional help. This anxiety cannot be good for you and I can't be good for your relationship.

I can only tell you from personal experience that the sexual side effects go away after a month or two. And also that the increase in happiness and lessening of anxiety is totally 1000% worth it. PM if you want to talk about my particular experience.

6 weeks of therapy won't do much. It takes months and sometimes years of therapy to change your behavior. But this sounds like anxiety and depression. You might also consider a medical option like Prozac.

I think there's a lot of power in talking about the journey. We don't all have perfect pasts. And I think there's value in discussing how you came to see those former beliefs as wrong and how you came to adopt a new worldview. If you want to speak out on social justice issues, I think that is where you should start. And this is a really hard thing to talk about, especially when you feel like you've wrong to people or that you were not a very good person before. I deeply sympathize with that beca…

I agree that New Atheism and the alt-Lite/RP have been intimately connected for a few years. I was on the ground floor for Elevatorgate and was honestly so surprised at the sexist backlash. I watched Tf00t and others sink down a rabbit hole and eventually had to leave the atheist community because it was so toxic. It broke my heart.

No one can answer your question but you. Do you feel as if you are being used? It sounds like you do. It sounds like you're not in a reciprocal friendship. You say you feel like you're wasting your time. I think that's a pretty good indication that this person is not being a very good friend to you.

/r/ExRedPill27/06/18 10:22 PM

I think it had to be both. RP fills your mind will stuff that can be really hurtful when said to a partner/not framed well. A therapist can help you sort out what's real and what's not. And, in general, a partner shouldn't be your sole support--thats too much to ask of one person. So yes, be close and confide in her. But also have other outlets.

Go out and talk to women. Get to know them at work, at school, and as friends. Get into some geoups, book clubs, go to a local church. Jist meet some women and ralk with them. Arm yourself with actual knowledge so that you can see bullshit TRP's ideas are.
/r/ExRedPill26/06/18 08:12 AM

Also, also--one piece of advice that the RP kind of maybe is sort of approaching (but not really because they are full of shit): Your gf cannot be your therapist. You need an outside party that you can vent to, that you can get a reality check from, and that you can confide in. This should not be your gf's job. This isn't because women lose interest in men who aren't stoic (that's horseshit); it's because your girlfriend cannot simply emotionally check out, go home or frame your session as a job…

That RP stuff is garbage. My husband has depression as well, and our marriage is so much stronger since he's confided in me and talks with me about it. And I don't feel so powerless either; I feel like I can do things to help him. If your GF loves you she will stay. If she doesn't, she won't. But it won't be because you overshared. It will be because she isn't the right person or this isn't the right time. Relationships break up all the time. But the way to maintain a relationship isn't to prete…

anxiety is hard to deal with because it causes you to think things that are not logical. In other words, it causes cognitive distortions. One cognitive distortion I see you doing is called "filtering." Basically, it means you accept evidence that affirm your anxious views and ignore evidence that doesn't. You have evidence that the RP is full of shit right in front of you - your girlfriend. I bet if you looked, you'd find multiple relationships of people you know where the woman was faithful, wh…

I have been in a relationship like you are describing (constant mindgames, constantly undercutting my confidence and unwilling to commit, always felt like he had 1 foot out the door.) It was abusive and terrible. Luckily, I have a pretty healthy sense of self-esteem and was only bamboozled by it for a few months before I left. Girls who don't have that same strong sense of self will likely be victims who stick around for longer. But--make no mistake about it--this is an abusive and toxic practic…

Are both MGTOW & MRA part of "The Red Pill"? Yes. MGTOWs are men who've decided "fuck women" but spend most of their time bitching about them online. Is it harmful to men's interests? I think it is, as much as any group that relies on anecdata, illogic and just-so stories is. I think it has some aspects of cultishness, like these: Mind-altering practices (such as meditation, chanting, speaking in tongues, denunciation sessions, and debilitating work routines) are used in excess and serve to supp…

my main concern is: i guess trp would say that the lose of that lust and the pair-bond is not sexually exciting so this leads women to cheat I think a lot of the misunderstanding around this is men talking about desire from a man's POV and not a woman's. We don't have a lot of testosterone. Our sexual desire response works quite differently from men's. I'm not saying women don't cheat out of honest sexual frustration or horniness; of course they do. But that pair-bonding IS satisfying to us. For…

This. Pushing back on these thoughts is important because in time it will alter them. Another piece of advice might be to get to know some more women. Ask them questions and talk to them about their lives. I think with exposure you'll find that there are lots of different kinds of women. Reconnect with your mom, talk with your sisters, speak to your cousins or girls at work. Get to know some people.

I get what you're saying because I'm the same way. My husband and I haven't fought for 10 years and I'm only now coming to realize with a lot of therapy how unhealthy that is. So my advice to you would be to work on your own self esteem and your own willingness to be vulnerable.
/r/ExRedPill02/05/18 06:52 AM
27

I think you've pinpointed the reason already; your low self esteem and inability to risk showing your own feelings is making you act this way. Knowing that is Step 1. Step 2-2000 is to actively stop hiding your feelings and work on your self esteem. There are no quick fixes. This is hard, years-long work. I would recommend cognitive behavioral therapy. There are a lot of websites that have activities and exercises that you can do. Good luck!

it doesn't occur to people to read books to their kids before bed Or poor people work long hours and aren't home when their children go to bed. education in general is not valued That's American culture generally, though. Ghetto mentality is more focused on short term pleasures and goals, lacking in conscientiousness. Again, poverty explains a lot of this. Why should you save $10 a day for 8 years for a down payment for a car, when you can get the short-term pleasure of having your nails done? T…

I am not a fan of Jordan Peterson because of some of his political and sociological views but agree that "clean your room" and "be responsible for yourself" is good general advice. I do really want to push back on some of your assumptions about people with lower socioeconomic status having lower intelligence, though. I do not believe that that is true. Nor do I agree that it is a man's job to take risks or to take care of things-- that is every adult human's job. It is certainly not a man's job …

I think Dread will sometimes work on young or inexperienced people because they don't know how to deal with it or don't have enough self esteem to leave somebody over it (I think this is really why RP dudes always want to date younger women). But it is corrosive to a relationship and to the person doing it. It's better to work through your insecurities and be vulnerable in admitting you need time/affection/attention than to manipulate your partner. As lot of insecurities come from low self estee…

This. Do girls that are obsessed with height exist? Sure. But a lot of us don't really care about it that much. My husband is shorter than me and a lot of guys I've dated have been (I'm 5'9", so not extremely tall). I think some short guys develop a real complex about it and it comes out in the way they act--either really insecure and paranoid, or really aggressive to "make up" for their height. Either thing is not terribly attractive. I like what you said: Just accept that this is what you have…

Wait, you WANT to be judged just for your looks? Why? Just...why? Speaking as a woman, I think you're really setting yourself up for disappointment. Women do not judge men on looks alone; we are not turned on by visual cues (by and large). Sure, handsomeness might make a woman talk to you but it is not the sole reason that a girl will go to bed with you. That's just like movie bullshit. I have never in my life known a woman to sleep with a guy based on looks alone.

. Sure, I can find a nice girlfriend if I want but I want something different. I want girls to notice me more, in a superficial sense. It might sound weird but that´s my preference. I think you need to examine why this is and what you can do about it. The truth is that there are few people who are handsome or beautiful enough to attract instant attention. Most of us -male and female- can't do that. I suspect the reason that you want this is a combo of that it feels good to be wanted and it feels…
