As if this would pan out differently in any other Western country. But, to be fair, apart from the forced resignation from WB, there's not much people can be mad about because no one was in that court room nor knows the complete situation.

I don't think you see the point. He was thinking about doing it, he got scared, stopped and then she (apparently) told him to "get back in". And the fundraiser, tweets, etc.? If these texts are real, she is a bloody lunatic! I think this is by no means the same as person A wants to be edgy and thinks about robbing a store. Person A gets scared and person B "convinces" person A. Person A gets busted and blames it on B. Do you see what I mean?
