I would say I see no need to change it, it causes me and those around me no discomfort. It will not affect my life. Being told you are thinking about things wrong is what happens when you get diagnosed with a mental illness. Yes it's unpleasant, but that doesn't mean we should tell schizophrenic people that their delusions are real and people are coming to get them.

I think I'd have been just as happy with either. I choose to be happy and proud of the mind and body I was born with. Even with their flaws. Edit: rationally I may be happier as a man. Purely because I think men are the preferable gender if you get a choice at birth.

Ah, this is where we disagree. In my opinion our social gender identities are simply cultural stereotypes based on our underlying biological gender identities. E.g. Women are better at understanding others emotions and men are better at understanding rational concepts.

My concern is not us. It's not going to happen in our life time, but in generations time if we've lost all notion of what the fundamental differences in our genders are and approach each newborn with a clean slate and the option to change genitals later. Kids will have no idea who they are. We will lose being a man and being a woman from the world.

At present. However in a future utopia one could hope that there would be a place for all and yet still a very clear definition of what masculinity is and what femininity is. To be brutal. All of the transgendered people I've met (not a huge amount, roughly 7 or 8 in my life) have been sexually assaulted. Usually at a young age. It's not the acceptance of transgendered people in society that's a concern. It's refining gender as a social construct that is a concern. It seems to be the modern mentality that telling people what gender they are at birth is almost a bad oppressive idea. Whereas it's actually exactly what we should be doing. The reason I (and others) have issues with looking at gender as a social construct is that it means we can simply change our society and people's genders will change as a reflection. If that is the case (and I can see valid arguments for such a thought) then the last thing we should do is say that everyone is born with no gender and get to choose. We should foster masculine traits in men and feminine traits in women. For the survival of the species.

I disagree. I think by defining people as cisgendered we are accepting that gender is a psychological / psychiatric definition rather than an innate biological one.
