Yep. "Manipulating" graphs was a standard unit in my science degree. Gotta effectively communicate your data, yo.

We need to analyze this issue in a mature and academic way avoiding the reductionist and emotional approaches that damaged the discussions around this topic in the past Imo, the best strategy to achieve this would be to disassociate the desired message from feminism entirely, replacing it with "contemporary consumerism sentiment"/"trial by social media"/"compounding intersectional impacts", etc. For the immediate future, referencing feminism will trigger assumptions of the same reductionist/reac…

Hey, I just wanted to respond to just this part: If we're going to REALLY change how men are perceived, we need women to actively discredit that stereotype, because men aren't allowed to. We are in a wierd transition period where MRA's have taken up the mantle of men's advocation, but women (and "moderate" feminists) aren't confident that they're invited to participate. This social advocacy is perfect for dismantling the latter. It's a public "call to arms" for allies that will result in women a…

I'm trying. What compensation do you think is appropriate?

Spinning Men's Issues as Misogyny Otherwise known as trickle down equality. Sincerely, do you think it is possible for men and women to work together cooperatively on issues like this? How would you prefer women allies to approach these topics? I'm afraid I've come across like this while trying to demonstrate commonality. An example might be a men's group advocating against risky/dangerous work bias, while a women's group advocates against infantilisation bias. Can they be allies? What would hel…

Its mostly light-hearted. It appeals to lots of different women. Lots of little girls have a witchy phase collecting rocks/bones/flowers, making potions, casting spells, making wishes. Women who are into, or loved as a child; tarot cards, astrology, crystal/essential oil "spells", home remedies, growing plants/herbs. Perceived as the original empowered/superhero girls club. Plays into narratives of being an outsider to society (or the "patriarchy") i.e witch burning, the spinster/cat-lady aesthe…

r.feminism has a wide reputation for toxic mods. A lot of feminists complain that they aren't centrist enough, too extremist/radical (I.e removing top level comments and threads that advocate for sex worker aid/rights, which also got me a ban). It's hard to call out, as most feminist subreddits rule-out posts about other subs. If you want to continue bridge-building, I can recommend r.askfeminists, r.witchesvspatriarchy (and definitely r.menslib). Edit: spelling.

Thanks for the article. It sent me down a very interesting Wikipedia hole. The feminist discourse changing to elevate trans and coloured women exemplifies the nature of "social progression". Demanding it be cast aside is reductive. People passionate about dedicating their lives to women's activism won't cease to exist overnight. Patriarchy ideation could perish and there would still be feminism. True, being a "humanist" is a wonderful goal and could eventually be more accepted than either "femin…

I wholly agree that modern feminism is only serving women. I'm not going to argue that, and it would be incredibly impolite to discredit male experiences in a men's space. To clarify, when I claim "feminist" as an identity circle, I am also "woman", "white", "cis", "Aussie", "neurodiverse", "conservationist", "Libertarian Left", "lgbt ally", "sex/gender ally" and, of course, "male advocate". If social justice allyship becomes like religion: -You only get to choose one from the list and ostracize…

I have concern that this approach will isolate the mra movement from gaining allies. I'm an 'intersectional feminist', which means that I believe that all genders, races, sexes, etc have a mix of both privellage and discrimination. The feminist talking points I see criticised most here are 'radical feminist' and assholes.

This perfectly sums up what I was going to contribute. People like to have a space to vent about things. This sub is a safe space to vent about women and feminism. A lot of women's subs vent about men and mra's. For whatever reason, the women's subs attract a small number of men who go there to pick fights ("not all men") to the point that it's become a bit of a joke in the women's spaces. On the topic of the "all men" phenomenon, It's a clumsy attempt to shock men into self reflection regarding…

I am curious, if a man was victimised by "boys don't cry" bullying, or life-threatening workplace expectations, what terms would they use to communicate that here in this sub? Or are those topics not welcome here?

Thanks again for the invitation. You're right, there is absolutely a need, and a place for the men's right's movement. Already in the last handful of years this has evolved quite a lot, and having passionate activists is critical to positive change. You've put a lot of focus on labels. While I was a science undergrad, transparent communication was drilled into us. One of the earliest lessons for any scientist: Every "category" ever invented is completely arbitrary, and has no inherent value outs…

Thanks for the invite. This is a men's space and I try to be respectful while I'm here. You might get more engagement in a debate sub.

Ah, I should clarify that I am a woman. When I say "from experience", I mean that this chick could have been me aged 15-25. I had to actively go out of my way to find healthy pro-men discourse; if you don't, the only "pro-men" content you're exposed to is MGTOW hate-bait. "never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity"

But also, 4.2x more likely to commit violent crime This is still an equality issue? What does she think systemic inequality looks like? How is society failing men for this to happen? "Stop committing the crimes going for low-wage jobs and then you won't get charged solve the pay gap. It's that fucking simple"

Reminds me of that quote “If you can convince the lowest white man he's better than the best colored man, he won't notice you're picking his pocket. Hell, give him somebody to look down on, and he'll empty his pockets for you.” Just adlib the categories!

Can I read the source? I imagine you possibly mean straight women, or straight white women? Saying women are last doesn't say a whole lot if the only other category is 'men'.

From experience, I can say it's lack of exposure for men's issues. She thought that she was an expert, and ugly pride kicked in when she realised she wasn't. A lot of people default to argument, instead of discussion. It's a real shame, because if misandry was championed by moderates alongside sex/race/lgbt discrimination, this person could have been an ally. The one-sidedness of the public discourse is fueling an "us versus them" sentiment.

As an ex-scientist, we're taught that breaking down broad categories into smaller ones results in more targeted attention and greater scientific progress, even the ability for it to evolve into independent fields of study with their own funding/staff. Retaking/redefining/reinventing these categories could be incredibly effective activism. Thank you. I have a lot to think about.

Thank you for the explanation. I really do appreciate it. It's why I'm here, after all! Is there somewhere I can find the preferred jargon? What would be the correct term here for male-on-male social bullying/hierarchy cultures, anti-effeminate bullying, or male-targeted workplace self-sacrifice pressure?

Hi, sorry, I'm new here. I thought I was being genuine. Can you help me understand why this is trolling?

A mate forwarded me this news article from his town; they've put a real focus on male support events as part of the UN 16 Days campaign. Couldn't be more proud.

Zoology background here. You can read tooth/jaw structure like a book. You don't "chew" meat, you tear and swallow with pointed teeth. Wide, flat teeth are for grinding plants, and flat front teeth for cropping at plants. Plant eaters have larger squarer jaws for the grinding action.

You might get more luck in a debate sub :-) I sadly see her POV crop up sometimes in my intersectional subs. Imo her biggest mistake is assigning blame. It's crab mentality and whattaboutism, not a sincere attempt to uplift any group. I do ascribe to privellage/power structure/unhealthy culture dynamics but on a macro or societal scale. These things hurt men too.
/r/MensRights20/11/20 01:37 PM
You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
