It just doesn’t go against it, it nearly completely destroys the whole premise (at least as it is taught). From what we have learned from the Epstein files, I would say there is actually a male patriarchy. It’s just that it only includes like the most infinitesimally small percentage of men, and is based exponentially more around class than gender (with gender being a smaller, though not completely insignificant issue for those bigots).

I used to work in higher ed. administration, where most of the administrators and administrative staff are women.

Interesting. Thanks for the response.

Where do you see female performance getting “subsidized”? I see women benefitting in the workforce in a few of ways: Preferential educational practices (grading, methods of teaching, college acceptance/scholarships) lead to more job qualifications. A double-standard that allows women to temporarily withdraw from the workforce to earn degrees while being financially supported by a spouse, but usually not the other way around. A culture in many white collar work environments that has become very f…

If you look at beer or deodorant commercials from that time, I would say that objectifying women was pretty normal. You would need to have a pretty liberal definition of “misogyny” to call it that, though. But the response is that we’ve made progress on that front to the point where women and the LGBTQ community are now pandered to by advertisers, in some cases to such an extreme extent that it’s offensive to both them and conservatives. Offensive to them because they’re realizing corporations a…

They don’t “want” those people because the donors do not want those people.

Obama was basically a faux populist selling “hope and change.” The excitement around his candidacy did have a racial component, but most of it was a broken promise that he would make average Americans’ lives better.

Well, there’s your lesson on Obama then. He’s a corporate centrist/moderate conservative just like the rest of them (maybe even more so). He also wields an extreme amount of power behind the scenes with the Democratic Party, and is much more involved with shaping social narratives than most understand. And let’s also be clear: this is about trying to shame black men for their votes. Politicians do not care about “you,” they just want your vote because it benefits them.

I agree with you; I wouldn’t be here if I didn’t. Maybe these issues are more widely understood than I realize. I’m trying to look out for the younger men among us that may be less familiar with the machinations of Western “democracy.”

Right - people are all basically the same. The great injustice of our time is (and continues to be) wealth inequality. Distracting us with social issues (which then become real problems) has always been part of the playbook. I would encourage everyone here to care as much about repealing Citizens United and money in politics generally as you do about gender issues; the former is helping to fuel the latter.

That would be r/menslib. I don’t speak for the sub, but speaking for myself, I find the content here valuable because it is a higher level (more critically thoughtful of) discourse on gender issues, while also supporting men. I’m not interested in the male version of feminism (masculinism? Funny how that term is so much more ambiguous and lesser known; Reddit doesn’t even recognize the spelling).

I think there is something to this, but given the mod post about generalizations, the statement should probably be amended to, “this is how many feminists view it.” In 2024, I know the overwhelming majority of women consider themselves feminists, but they do interpret the meaning of “feminism” differently (i.e., to fit their own worldview; it’s more convenient that way).

I thought my post would include it, but it meant to point out their preoccupation with the Genetic Fallacy: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Genetic_fallacy#:~:text=The%20genetic%20fallacy%20(also%20known,origin%20rather%20than%20their%20content. It was a little bit encouraging to see the OP recognize the hypocrisy, though.

While it’s not a single-issue party, the specter of Trump 2.0 is allowing Democrats to essentially run on a policy platform of, “Reverse Roe v. Wade,” and nothing else. It’s sad how many women would look you in the eye and tell you they are oppressed by the patriarchy, while at the same time essentially controlling the rhetoric of one (of only two) major political parties in the U.S. (and the GOP is essentially a fake political party meant to trick working stooges into voting for the interests o…

This is mostly just pandering by BoA. I don’t mean to take anything away from your post, but you will see shit like this several (if not dozens) of times a day if you look for it. The fact is that supporting feminism and “girl bosses” is very socially popular and acceptable right now, and BoA is trying to capitalize on that.

Of course. It feels like the post is celebrating that the traffickers were women, which is tacky.

I'm not sure the right approach here is to celebrate, but I will say this: I couldn't believe how many female rapists (and pedophiles) I noticed on the news, especially teachers, after I took a mental note of it a few months ago. To phrase it very poorly following that last statement, "we're all just 'human,' man." Both the flowers and the dirt.

Well, there’s another problem here. I understand why men would be cautious about engaging with women at work and would prefer to keep things “strictly professional,” so to speak. At the same time, not all professions reasonably allow for this isolationism. I work at a while collar job in an industry dominated by women. While it would be nice to simply “do your work and go home,” this isn’t socially acceptable: you’re expected to participate in office culture generally and advancing in your caree…

As a huge Bernie supporter leading up to that election, income inequality, Medicare for all, and campaign finance reform were primary issues for much of the democratic electorate. Those issues are actually dangerous for the people in power, as they loosen their grip on the levers of society and take cash out of their pockets. I think the shift to social issues reflects both of these things: Resentment that the female candidate was not elected and a feeling that the system is unfair to women, des…

Men have actually been forced to confront their prejudices and grow from them. Many women are still effectively the teenagers of society that have never been forced to be accountable for their actions. I guess I should add the caveat that most people (men and women) are emotionally immature, but that struggle/hardship forces people to grow.

We're all very happy for you. Is a healthy birthing age also a myth propagated by men?

This argument is impressively weak. The child is still, “being deprived of a parent,” unless you see men only as cash registers. Should women be forced to stay in unhappy marriages when kids are involved? Of course not.

Bullying any group is not the answer. What a sophomoric, hypocritical way to look at things. As advocates for men's issues, I am sure we have all been silenced, gaslit, and demonized for our ideas by feminists and others. That is because feminism is essentially an authoritarian social movement at this point, and its attempts at discrediting competing ideologies has been wildly successful. If your goal is not egalitarianism, but instead to become an oppressor, your entire ethos comes into questio…

I would argue that it depends on the type of job you’re talking about. A gross or dangerous blue collar job? Yeah, agreed - absolutely not. But a high paying Engineering position? I think you will see women complaining about other women not being represented in those fields, because those occupations are well-respected and well-paid. Women will tell you that they don’t pursue technical/engineering fields because they’re full of men and that makes them uncomfortable; but wasn’t this the case for …

I was very fortunate to discover this sub a few months ago (I mean that both figuratively and literally, as this sub is very hard to find), and it’s honestly surprising how predictable the rhetoric is, even with only a very basic understanding of it. I haven’t read any of the “scholarly literature” in the feminist canon, but it becomes clear very quickly that modern feminism is essentially about defending the cult. I find that really sad. If both men and women were allowed to speak about their i…

Anecdotally, I will say that my wife supports feminism, but that she cannot really articulate a reason why. I think it is something a lot of women kind of “get caught up in the excitement of,” because all they’re ever being told is that it’s progress (and they are the benefactors!).

I think time is going to heal some of these issues. I know that's not the answer we (as male advocates) would prefer, but it may be the most realistic. Women aren't stupid. As much as the dogma of feminism is the zeitgeist of the early 21st century, men's issues are going to become increasingly difficult to deny. As the education gap expands, women will dominate a majority of the sectors of our economies, which will also expand the wage gap in their favor. Women, as the gender now earning the ma…

That’s the benefit of our large human brains and the creation of society. I would argue treating everyone as “human” benefits the species as a whole, because now we have ways to share knowledge, treat illnesses, and maintain our environment. If you would rather have a society of literal idiots pumping out as many offspring as possible, you run the risk of all kinds of mass extinction events. Basic point: our strength as a species is not the same as it is for insects.

Your original post could use some serious editing, as I’m sure many will skip over it because it is, admittedly, a bit daunting for the average reader. The best teacher I ever had was a high school world history teacher who taught in the Socratic method. There were no tests and minimal written assignments. Instead, we were graded on our ability to defend our view points (often posing as important or infamous men and women from history) and on our ability to critique these answers as the audience…

It’s funny how that works in politics. Actually appealing to important demographics wins a lot of elections. FDR appealed to the working class at the expense of the ultra wealthy and never lost. Unfortunately, winning the election is not the top priority for them, despite what they say to the contrary.
